Die Autorinnen sind der Frage nach der wissenschaftsdisziplinären Verschränkung von Gender Studies und Medienwissenschaft zu GenderMedia Studies nachgegangen und geben unter der Annahme, dass es eine Schnittstelle von Gender und Medien gibt, ganz unterschiedliche Antworten. Neben dezidierten Programmatiken (Hedwig Wagner, Christiane König) werden metatheoretische Reflexionen zur Verbindung beider Wissenschaftsdisziplinen formuliert (Ulrike Bergermann, Sonja Neef, Martina Leeker) und es finden sich - mit Rückgriff auf die Wissensgeschichte, die Mediengeschichte und die Geschichte der Medienwissenschaft/Medientheorie - Überlegungen zum theoretischen Impakt beider (Martina Leeker, Verena Kuni). Weiterhin werden Grundparadigmen der Gender Studies, wie die Position des Phallus als Signifikanten, in Bezug auf die Medientheorie kritisch in Augenschein genommen (Susanne Lummerding, Claudia Reiche) und schließlich werden Fallstudien präsentiert (Lisa Gotto, Stefanie Rinke).
