About this ebook

Fitzwilliam Darcy received the surprise of a lifetime on his 28th birthday…

After a lifetime of assuming that Pemberley belonged to him without any limitations, a solicitor arrives on his birthday with terrible news: Darcy must marry before he turns thirty-years-of-age, or he will forfeit all rights to his inheritance and income. Following the death of Anne de Bourgh, the gentleman did not concern himself much with marriage. Now, however, he is in need of a bride and he needs one in a hurry.

The answer to all of Darcy's problems arrives in the form of Elizabeth Bennet, a young woman in need of a husband and an escape. They agree to wed, but quickly discover their temperaments may not be suited to marriage. Can they survive a tumultuous relationship long enough to find the one thing for which they are both searching?

The Addendum is a sweet, clean Pride and Prejudice variation filled with laughs, unexpected complications, and an expected happily ever after!

    CHAPTER 1

M r. Darcy, did you understand me? Sir?

Fitzwilliam Darcy stared at his solicitor, his eyes wide with a mixture of confusion and horror. When his housekeeper told him he had a visitor, he assumed it was a friend to wish him well on his birthday. He never imagined that it was Mr. McMurray, here to change his life forever.

I do not understand. I was told that upon my father’s death, Pemberley and the entire estate belonged to me. And now you tell me that is not the case?

The solicitor slid a pile of papers across the desk for Darcy’s inspection.

I am afraid not, sir. You see, there is an addendum here. It says that you must be married before your thirtieth birthday in order to keep your claim. If you do not marry by then, ownership of Pemberley will default to your cousin, he paused to scan the words on a second document. Gareth Pendergast?

    Darcy scoffed.

Gareth? He is a drunken fool who has never even been to Pemberley. Why would he inherit everything?

Mr. McMurray shook his head. He was the next in line of inheritance when the papers were drawn. Fitzwilliam, I think it would be best for everyone at Pemberley if you simply… found a young woman to wed.

As he stood to his feet and walked to the picture window of his study, he could not help but sigh.

Why did no one tell me this before today?

Frankly, my boy, because of your engagement to Anne de Bourgh, no one considered it a problem. But then…

Darcy knew he had been too cavalier about Anne’s death. When she passed suddenly after an illness, he relished the opportunity to be a bachelor. The idea of hurrying straight into a marriage never even occurred to him. That he would have to do that now? The very concept made him feel ill.

There is no way around it, then? Darcy sighed again.

The solicitor was silent. He simply shook his head and waited for the young man to make the realization himself.

"All right. I see that I have no choice in the matter. I will have to find a young woman to marry. Are there any stipulations on who I am allowed to
