    Miss Abby Crabby fluffed her feathers and straightened her hat.

    She took one last look in the mirror, smiled at herself, and thought, Oh

    my! I look soooo pretty in my new hat!"

    Without another thought, Miss Abby Crabby flew off her perch and headed for the highest tree she could find, singing loudly as she went. As soon as they heard that voice, all the Mother birds flew to their nest to cover the baby bird eggs, still sleeping quietly in their shells.

    Oh, dear! said Mrs. Birdseed, who called over to Officer Whalen in the next tree. Officer Whalen, please make her stop! She’s going to make all the baby eggs hatch before they’re ready!

    Miss Abby Crabby thought she had a lovely singing voice because her mother had been a canary. However, most everyone thought she had a voice like her father, the crow, with his loud Caw, Caw. That cackling voice caused everyone, including the humans, to look skyward to see where the noise was coming from.

    Looking very regal in his Cardinal red feathers, Officer Whalen assured Mrs. Birdseed that he would take care of it.

    Don’t you worry, Mrs. Birdseed, said Officer Whalen as he brushed
