Memories From My Classroom - Mr. Redd

In the past, the traditional classroom focused on teacher instruction utilizing lecture and paperwork. During class, little interaction occurred between students and teachers. In the 80’s, instruction transitioned to encouraging students to talk and interact with their teachers. This new era, stressing interaction and communication, ushered in student and teacher-driven instruction. During this time, instead of simply serving as instructors in the classroom, teachers became facilitators for the children. Initially as a teacher, I perceived children to share strikingly similar characteristics; clearly comparable to one another. In time, the children in this book, my former students, taught me lessons, gifts that I now treasure. Each became an integral part of me and my wonderful memories. Those remembrances have not only lived in my mind and heart in the past, they remain alive today.
