About this ebook

It was time to bring this to an end. Iver had been training his entire life for this moment. He was the strongest he'd ever been and he was about to lead his army through the mountain ranges of Middle Earth to fight against Ettore and his army.

He knew that not every one was going to come out of this alive, but Iver just hoped that with the aid of their ancestors the casualties would be slim.

Call of the Gods - S L Davies

    Prologue

    Iver

There are going to be many things that you will learn in a concise amount of time, Odin said as we walked through the forests of Middle Earth.

    I’m nervous.

    What makes you nervous?

I’d been thinking a lot about what I would embark on. This wasn’t just a game or training; this was real. I was going to have to kill people. I was going to have to watch my family and my friends die. I knew the outcome was in our favor, but we had lost so much already.

I want to say I’m scared to fail, but that’s not it. I know Hel’s prophecy, and we will succeed.

Odin smiled and nodded his head. The two ravens that seemed ever-present with him sat on either shoulder. His grey eye, which wasn’t patched, looked down at me with tenderness and a love that maybe a grandfather would give. Yet it was different. I had grandpas Lionel and Jantzen, and I knew they loved me, but this was different. This wasn’t love for a child; this was love for creation. This was pride in creation.

You will succeed; that is correct.

I breathed in deeply as I slowly let it out. I think what scares me most is losing those that I love.

Ah yes, that is a worry we all have, even as gods.

I nodded my head. That was something I’d learned quickly in my time with the gods; even though they held so much power and humans and supernaturals put them on a pedestal, they were still people. They still had raw emotions, just like us. They erred as we did; they loved fiercely, hated, and struggled with jealousy. They were normal. Powerful, but people, all the same.

I don’t want to lose Papa and my Dads. I don’t want to lose my sisters. My friends, tears burned in my eyes as I thought about what this battle could strip from me. It was a selfish outlook that hurt my heart.

Odin smiled tenderly and nodded his head. I wish I could tell you that you will not have to experience loss. But everybody eventually dies. It’s the worst part of living. I can assure you that your Papa, your Dads, and your sisters have a long life yet to live.

    And my friends?

Some of them will die in this battle, and I’m sorry.

I huffed out a breath and hugged myself around the middle. Isn’t there a way I could go in and just assassinate Ettore?

You could. But I want you to think. If you go in and assassinate Ettore, what will happen to his army?

I hummed. Well, two things, I guess, I replied as I stopped walking and looked up at the sky through the canopy of the enormous trees thick in the forest. One would be that they would disperse, the alphas would know freedom, and they would get to live. The other is that another would rise and finish what Ettore had begun.

That’s right; now you are at a fork in your decision. No matter what path you choose, there are other forks. Some may lead to good; others may lead to bad; it’s up to you to decide which is the better path.

I sighed and tangled my fingers up through my hair. That is another thing that scares me.

Odin smiled and nodded. You have much weight on your shoulders. But you mustn’t be afraid of mistakes. If you don’t make mistakes, you won’t learn.

But if I make the wrong decision regarding this war, many people could die.

Odin nodded. Yes, they could. That is why you need to look at every decision you make critically. You mustn’t rule with your heart or your head, but both.

I groaned. And I must somehow work out how to do that instantly.

Odin chuckled. You will have great people around you that you can lean upon, Iver. I know that it seems daunting that you are the one to lead this army, but I promise that your army also has your best interests at heart.

All of them? I asked as I continued to walk along the path.

There will be those that will betray you. Like every battle, there is a Judas, to use the story of the Christians.

I snorted. Is it a bit ironic that you talk about Jesus when people who believe in you don’t believe in a Christian god?

Odin laughed. We are all the same. It is only human religion that puts discord between beliefs.

I sighed and nodded my head. I’d been coming out to the forests and training with Odin every day since the gods returned. I valued my time with him. I’d learned so much since we started, and I knew I still had much more to learn. The day of the final battle drew nearer, which scared me. But I had to focus on the positive; we would be victorious.

    Chapter One

    Hel

How confident are you that the kid will be successful in this? Hades asked as we lay in bed. I stroked my fingers up and down his naked spine as he rested his head on my breast.

I don’t know. I know he will be successful, but how ready he is; that’s another story.

Hades looked up at me with concern. You think he isn’t ready mentally or physically?

    Mentally.

Iver has a tender heart. I know he could physically walk in there and wipe out that entire army alone. But to kill people, well, you saw how he reacted after he had to kill the demon.

Hades nodded his head. We had been waiting for the arrival of Iver, the cthulu, for thousands of years. It was part of the prophecy from Odin’s parents to him and then from Odin to me. I’d written it out, and we waited. The day that Iver was born, the announcement hit us in middle earth; we knew it wouldn’t be long before he would lead an army to war against the Nephilim Ettore. The evil one. The one that we knew would try to destroy everything. But it would be in Ettore’s death that a new world would be born.

Supernaturals would be able to cross between the worlds without the gods. The gods would be able to walk freely among our people. Supernaturals would learn their powers. Magic that had laid dormant for millions of years would come to the surface. In one sense, it was fascinating. But for another reason, it was terrifying.

Every action had a reaction; every choice that Iver makes will change the outcome of this war. Admittedly, Iver was an incredibly mature eighteen-year-old but still a teenager. That was a scary thing to put our confidence in an eighteen-year-old boy.

Do you think we need to hold him back from this? Hades asked.

I shook my head. No. It’s time. He will need to lean on us and others once it is over.

Is he going to make it through this?

I smiled and nodded my head. As scary as my mate could be, he, too, had such a soft heart. He loved the supernaturals fiercely, and the more we got to know them, the more protective he became, especially over Iver.

Yes, he is going to make it through physically. There will be deaths, but not Iver’s.

I dread to ask, but who?

I don’t know for sure; there are thousands, even millions of potential paths. Any one of them could die. Any one of us could die. It just all depends on the paths that Iver leads his army.

Hades sighed. I hate this. I wish Odin would let us deal with it.

We can’t really blame Odin for this either. The prophecy was taught to him by his father.

I know, but Borr isn’t here; Odin is.

I snorted. I think Odin would take the blame; I know he isn’t happy about this either. It’s not the war necessarily that he is upset about, but the fact that it has to be Iver that leads it. Odin has become very fond of the boy.

It’s easy to. The kid is fantastic.

I smiled and nodded my head. I agree.

You know, Hades said with a wicked smile. We could finally have a baby once this is all over.

I chuckled. Hades has wanted children since we first got mated, but I didn’t want a child that would have to be part of a war, so I’d held him off. Once this war was won, I wouldn’t have that excuse anymore.

You know, we could, I said with a smirk.

Hades growled in his throat and rolled onto the top of my body, sliding his legs between mine. His cock was hard and pressed against my clit.

    We could practice, he purred.

We definitely could practice, I moaned as I widened my legs and stroked my hands over his hard chest. No matter how many times we’d fucked over the years, I would never get enough of this man. Hades slid inside me.

Slowly he rolled his hips, pressing hard against my clit. My eyes rolled, and my mouth dropped open as moans slipped from my lips. My toes curled as my pleasure built higher and higher. Hades slid his fingers down between our bodies, circling his thumb against my clit, drawing the orgasm out as I cried and clawed at his back.

Fuck you feel so fucking good, Hades growled into my ear. His hips snapped against me and pounded hard, drawing the animalistic wild woman out of me. My screams of pleasure mixed with Hades’s roar. His cock swelled, and he filled me over and over with his seed.

I focused on my womb; I usually would protect my body to prevent pregnancy. This time was different. This time I allowed the egg to move. It was time to give my mate his child.

    Chapter Two

    Iver

We need to organize a scout team to go and investigate the mountain ranges and cave system, I instructed as I sat with the children’s army. Not that many of us were children anymore. It was just a more accessible label to give it.

Are you wanting to send the kobolds in for this job? Szar asked.

I bit into my bottom lip as I considered it. I think that would be a good idea. We need someone that can blend into the scenery. We don’t want Ettore to know that we are coming.

Do you think that he knows we are here? And that he knows that we know? McKenna asked.

I hummed and shrugged my shoulders. I’d say he doesn’t know, but that might not be right. We can’t underestimate Ettore.

McKenna nodded her head. I can move us there and back, Gumma said.

I nodded. That would be good. I don’t want too many people on this, so I think Gumma, if you can, go with Ashes and Rallu and blend in with the forests. I’ll send the kobolds, Szar, Xac, and Petron to go into the cave system and find approximately how many alphas there are. I’d like to know a general species too.

Szar smiled and nodded his head. We can do that. Are Gumma, Ashes, and Rallu going to transport us there?

I nodded my head. Yes. Jai and Jasper are working with Zion and Hel to plot the best course for the army once we go up there.

When do you want us to leave? Gumma asked.

Any time you’re ready, I replied with a smile.
