Chapter One
The Opening
The Great Debate, hosted by Harold Muhammed of the Nation of Islam, Mosque #46, New Orleans, on September 8, 1991. Participants included Attorney and Reverend A. Morgan Bryant, Jr., and his opponent, Doctor Khalid Muhammad, Associate Director of the Urban Crisis Center in Atlanta, Georgia. When I attended this debate at the Mahalia Jackson Auditorium in New Orleans, I was unaware of its lengthy time span. Due to time preservation, I am giving you the reader’s digest version of the event.

A discussion of the debate was originated by Carl Galmon, a local Social Activist in the New Orleans area, when he read an article printed in the local newspaper; Times Picayune, written by Reverend Bryant, in which he titled Jesus Is Not of African Origins, Nor Is He Black.
(I am very familiar with that newspaper. When I was ten years old, I had a paper route that consisted of forty customers. I delivered the States Item newspaper six days per week, then the Times Picayune paper on Sunday mornings. I understand now that both newspapers merged into the Times Picayune. I was a paper boy for three consecutive years. At age ten, I began piano lessons. And that morphed into me playing woodwind instruments. I was also in the Boys Scout at age ten. My brother was elected Scouts Leader and Mr. Woody White was our Scouts Master. The local church I grew up in sponsored the boy’s scouts for our neighborhood. I owe many expressions of gratitude to Saint John’s Baptist Church, in New Orleans).
When pressed by local activists in the New Orleans area as to what was his motive in publishing such inflammatory article one week prior to Easter Sunday, when millions of Christian believers around the world begin to celebrate the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus the Christ. Reverend Bryant did not respond to Carl Galmon letter of inquiry. So then, Carl Galmon submitted his own written article to the Times Picayune, but the newspaper refused to publish his article in their paper. They were satisfied with Reverend Bryant slanted slander only.
However, the two sides did agree to a debate to discuss the topic Reverend Bryant published.
I begin my book with excerpts of the debate titled Jesus of the Holy Bible was a Jew, And not of Black African Origins.
The narrator of the debate began with the introduction of both participants.
Attorney A Morgan Bryant was born in New Orleans, he graduated with a B.A. in Sociology, he received an M.S. in Psychology, and a Jurist Doctrine from LSU Law Center.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during 1951-1955, and has been practicing law in New Orleans since 1956.
He was a founding Senior Partner, an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, and is listed in Who’s Who
in the World.

in Religion, and past president of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary Board of Trustee.
He was the Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Louisiana from 1982-1987. And he is also a Lecturer.

Doctor Khalid Muhammed is Associate Director of the Urban Crisis Center in Atlanta Georgia, he taught in the African Studies Department at Cal State at Los Angeles, and was a recipient of the Ford Foundation.

He is the Minister of Mosque Number Seven, in Harlem New York.
Moderators privilege provided that the Attorney Reverend Bryant begin the debate.
Chapter Two
The Great Debate
"I would know nothing among you save Jesus Christ and him crucified. I’m not a Reverend, I’m a layman. I’m a Reverend of a local Baptist Church. I’m not a ordain Minister. I am a practicing lawyer.
But I want to tell you something about where I come to this, or dialogue as I was lead to believe this is going to be. I don’t pretend to try and convince you of my point of view through rhetoric, but I don’t plan to use rhetoric tonight because I don’t think rhetoric is what’s involved in trying to present a point of view of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Secondly, I’m not here to argue the point. I’m going to present you the best I can, and as best, the Lord allows me to do so in my view of the subject.
How God works in the hearts of each of us in terms of our beliefs, or what we believe, or don’t believe, what we accept, or don’t accept. That’s up to him and his Holy Spirit as he deals with the hearts and minds of men, and women, human beings. I don’t believe in arguing points of this sort. And I will not argue them. I will try to discuss them as best I can.
I am also coming to you from the perspective of not considering this a great debate as it’s been declared in these comments.
I don’t know where that came off…great debate. I’m not a great debater. I’m an ordinary layman who had a point of viewpoint and I express it in a letter to the editor of the Picayune. And incidentally, the letter that appeared edited out all the scriptures I reference. Hence, those of you who read the letter in the column didn’t get the benefit of the perspective that was major in my viewpoint. that were in my letter to the editor. And that it was from a biblical perspective.
I’m not competent to debate Dr Khalid on matters of the Quran. I confess to you I don’t know much about the Quran. As an educated person, I know what it is, but I’ve never studied it, I never read it, and I don’t purport to be any kind of articulator of things in the Quran.
I was simply asked over the telephone the morning after the letter appeared in the Picayune. Would you be willing to debate with somebody the point that you expressed in the letter? And I said certainly. But I am doing it from a biblical perspective.
I became a Christian forty years ago. I was in my middle year of law school at LSU. Prior to that, I had been an arrogant, cocky, smart-aleck, cynic.
I am 63 years old now. I am a deacon and a bible teacher in my church. I did not do any research in anthropology, sociology, or archaeology in ancient history probably may have a bearing on this issue. I do not have any political agendas. I am not a bigot, and I do not have any anti-black racist views despite the fact that I have a view regarding Jesus and his origins, and his ethnic background. Now after saying all of that, I will go ahead and make my presentation to you: What I believe in the bible I accepted that fact when I became a Christian that this is the inspired divinely word of God. It is infallible. I believe it is without ERROR. Despite the fact that human beings were God instrument in writing the bible.
I don’t concede that because human beings wrote the bible, it could have any errors in it. I believe that if God is overseen in his divine way, the production of what he intends to produce by these errant human being writers’, God alone can control the outcome. God can see to it that the outcome is what he precisely intended. Hence, everything that the bible states to me is believable and is true. And is what God is trying to reveal through a written record, through written words to humankind. I have only two main points in my belief that Jesus was not of Black African origins. First, I believe that Jesus is plainly shown in scripture to be the divine incarnate son of God almighty Jehovah Eloheim. I believe that Jesus was God incarnate and walked upon this earth, lived on this earth for thirty-three years. I believe that the bible reveals that the line God started with Abraham and brought all the way down through the annals of time to a point where an old Jewish maiden who was chased (Mary). I don’t see anything in the scriptures that teaches me that that line that I just describe is anything other than a line called Hebrew. A line called Jew, a line called Israel, a line called the seed of Abraham, a line called the Fruit of Jacob in the sense of inheritance, a line called the seed of David, a line called from the tribe of Judah of the twelve tribes that Jacob sponsor, and progenitor. I’d like to share some of those passages with you; Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin named Mary saying,
Rejoice highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!" (Luke 1 and 26-30)
"For you have found favor with God. And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. (Luke 2 and 21).
I am here to deal with the fact I believe strongly because the bible says so, in my opinion, that he was not from Africa. That He was from Asia Minor. And I believe He was not a Black Person, that He was a Jew. And Jews are not shown in the scriptures to be Black Persons.
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham (Matthew 1), and Luke 3 and 25 continues with the genealogy of Jesus. The others take you to the humanity that also includes the line of the Jews. For time purposes, you can read in your own spare. So we have two genealogies, one wish takes you through the line of the Jews. The other takes you to the humanity that also includes the line of the Jews.
The Luke genealogy is broader and more extensive than the Matthew genealogy but the portion of the Luke genealogy that deals with the line from Abraham is still the Jewish line. And Jesus comes through that means. As a bible believer, I accept that. Then concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of the dead (Romans 3 and 4).
