About the Author
There was once a kid named J-Jay Make-Believe who believed he could write a poem and bring good times
out of any bad situation.
He lived on a neighborhood block called the Nine (9), with his friends named the Tall One, Scootsie, Joker Jes, and Dre-Ski's; they were all close friends who did just about everything together. One day J-Jay Make-Believe had an idea. He said, I guarantee I can make the tall one smile. But you must close your eyes and listen very carefully to my poem.

he asked. It goes…

You help me, and I help you
‘Cause working together is better with a friend. Understand?

Joker Jes and Dre-Ski's broke out laughing, saying, He sure is. You can't hide that one. I can see it.
This would be the first time that J-Jay Make-Believe learned how to use his gift.
At home where J-Jay Make-Believe lived, he had two cousins: a girl named Lisa and a boy named E-Preacher.
They were close in age, only a year apart between the two, but several years older than J-Jay Make-Believe. Every morning Lisa would grab J-Jay Make-Believe, hold him down, and tickle him, until he smiled or broke out into laughter.
They had a special bond that seemed to be inseparable. She would help J-Jay Make-Believe build up his self-esteem.
She would sit patiently and listen while J-Jay Make-Believe would read the poems he wrote. One morning she became impatient and said, Boy, hurry up so I can go outside and Hula-Hoop, then get some jump rope in.
J-Jay Make-Believe thought for a second, opened his mouth, and said:
Every time I
