About this ebook

Female Voices from the Bible contains poems of rhyme and free verse about various women who proved themselves of courage and action to accomplish an act that others could not. In this volume, we see pictures of daring, faithful, prayerful women leading the way, often when a man would not. In a time when it was supposed to be a man's world, women proved that they had the motive, the strength, and the willingness to accomplish what needed to be done. Today's movement among women in leadership can be seen first in females of the Bible.

    Dedication

I dedicate this volume of poetry to my late Irish grandmother, Effie Ada O’Neal Phillips, and to the late Mrs. Becky Sherman, a black domestic friend of the family, who both raised me in a rural community called Hicks, outside of our hometown of Ashdown, Arkansas. When my mom, Allie B. Phillips, passed on twelve hours after my birth on September 2, Becky came and helped my grandmother, who was still recuperating from her last birth of her last son. Both women were wise beyond their years, and both served as my mentors. Proverbs 31: "Who can find a virtuous woman, for
