Prologue
She was swift. With a curl of her lips, the deed was done. The thrill of bleeding the life from her prey, satisfying the hunger she long suppressed for her warped sense of justice temporarily. The act itself would eventually fade into the fog of her deranged mind until the sanguine monster within craved more blood.
Chapter One
10:00 p.m., October 18, 2013
Hotel de Greenville
She gazed into the well-lit bathroom mirror, longing to see the girl within the woman she had become, the girl who giggled at Saturday morning cartoons, who blushed when a cute boy spoke to her, and who absolutely loved to live life. However, that little girl died a long time ago. Now, when she gazed into the reflective surface, all that stared back at her was the monster inside a scared carcass. The dark side that, for some, doesn’t exist; for others, it comes with the change of the wind, yet for others, more cursed than their fellow man. The darkness oozes from their pores. For the woman in the mirror hadn’t any options, the creature came and went as it so pleased. Though she and the creature shared a body, they had different mind-sets, different agendas, along with different abilities in the art of life. The woman craved fame; the creature, on the other hand, craved vengeance with nothing more than the spatter of crimson.
A voice from the next room called to the woman. It was a handsome voice with a light Aussie accent, Hey, Barbra, are you soon done in there?
She opened the bathroom door. Light cascaded from around her Aphrodite-like figure, which gave this alluring vixen, dressed in black lingerie, a dark, angelic brilliance. The woman gazed at the well-chiseled man, his mouth opened slightly. His eyes grew in awe of her beauty. She hummed a sorrowful tune, swaying her hips as she walked closer to her prey. Barbra,
his voice cracked.
Yes,
her speech as soft as a newborn’s face.
He cleared his throat, mustering some strength. Barbra, I demand that you uncuff me immediately!
he said sternly. Her eyes bore holes into his soul. He sheepishly continued, My wife will soon be back. If I’m not prim and proper, she’ll suspect.
She pierced his sentence sharply with, She will suspect nothing!
Realizing she acted out of character, she entered her adolescent voice. I mean, just let me take care of you.
She smiled innocently and leaned down as if to kiss him. Instead, she whispered in his ear, You were a lot of fun, Eric, too bad it had to end this way.
He was lost with what she was saying, but realized her intent when the blade of a letter opener slipped between his vertebrae. A grim smile crossed over her face. Speechless, aren’t we?
She began to dress into her maid’s uniform, then turned to the man gasping for air on the goose down mattress. Oh, Eric, don’t give me that pathetic look. It will all be over in a matter of minutes.
She slipped off her wig and shook out her flowing auburn locks. Well, Eric, do you recognize me now? No? Well, let me refresh your memory. My name isn’t Barbra. My name is Selena, Selena Miller. Remember me now? Still speechless, well, I guess not.
He gargled his eyes, fluttering with death’s closeness. Selena pulled out of her apron pocket a small revolver. Placing a silencer over the barrel, she fired one shot right between his green eyes.
Death had entered and left the room with a heartbeat. Selena dipped her finger in the bead of blood streaming from his forehead; she wrote on the nightstand in Latin, "Letum est universes vir. (Death is the equalizer of all men.) Selena swayed a little more. She closed Eric’s eyes and kissed his soft lips, tenderly whispering as she exited the room,
Good night, my prince."
Pulling the door closed gently, she made a B line straight to the exit. Upon leaving the fine brick building, she placed an anonymous call to the Greenville Police Department. "Hello 911, I believe a murder has just happened, Hotel de Greenville, suite
