About this ebook

Rebirth is a story of how God reminds us to love one another. I always felt that people who love dogs are spiritually connected, and my dog training profession allowed me to meet many remarkable people. Although some people may be unaware of this connection, a selected few transcended to me a spiritual deliverance. Only as my story progressed, did I truly begin to understand what these gifted few represented; a God given spiritual love connection! A special woman, Doll, was unknowingly selected to bring true meaning to all of the phenomenon that I experienced prior to my meeting her. I was overwhelmed by her answers to the spiritual signs as my story of gifted love unfolded. My wife Ruth witnessed the spiritual signs I was experiencing and kept the spirit of God alive as my experience unfolded and helped to convince me to deliver my message of God's love in this story of Rebirth.

For the few close friends and relatives that graciously accepted me sharing this story with them: my wife, Ruth; my sister Gertrude; my niece Michele; Rick, and also thank you Laura for helping me type this story, Rebirth. Sometime during my younger years, I remember seeing this cartoon about a little character who was encouraged into selfish acts by the devil, which stood on his left shoulder. On his right shoulder stood a bright shining angel who tried in vain to teach the little character to do what was right. Unfortunately, the devil had control from the beginning with all his temptation: Why not go ahead and try it? Suddenly one day, the little character realized that rich material things did not make him any happier. Newly acquired friends were too wrapped up in themselves, and they treated the little character like an object. Old friends deserted him, and the threat of loneliness was rapidly closing in on his materialistic world. Earnestly, the little character prayed for the angel to reappear to make him happy. Dark clouds soon turned into sunshine, a frowned face became a smile, old friends returned to visit him, and selfishness and greed were no longer. A part of his greatest gift in life will forever be his: love!

Never forgetting this cartoon, I would always refer to it when talking about the temptations experienced during my life. For instance, I would mention that the good guy, symbolic of the angel, was on my right shoulder and the bad guy, in this case the devil, was sitting on my left shoulder. During the days of my early manhood, the bad guy had a tighter grip on my lifestyle. Gradually, the tide began to change. The dark days became bright, a sad face began to smile, and happiness engulfed my whole body.

Dubious people might remark that the following account of events is a phenomenon, or they may label it as a coincidence. Pious human beings will claim that the Lord is working in me. However, if you are an atheist, agnostic, a free-thinker, or unbeliever, you had better prepare yourself with an open frame of mind! What you are about to read actually happened, and I am writing this story to share with you a spiritual rebirth of love, from the Good Guy better known as God.

On June 13, 1948, my mother passed away. Pastor Jaxheimer found me outside and asked if I believe in Jesus. I acknowledged the question, and the pastor informed me that Mom is in heaven with the Lord.

Eight months after graduation from high school, I joined the navy. I was a signed to Attack Squadron 113, which was based thirteen miles north of San Diego. On my second cruise to the Far East, my squadron was assigned to the USS Shangri-La. The ship was one day out of Hawaii when word came that my dad was very ill and was not expected to live. The following day, April 13, my dad died.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the navy, I decided to live a life of wine, women, and song. I felt that after sacrificing four years of my young adult life, I was entitled to party! It was during these reckless days that I met Janet, who later became my wife. We went together for six years and were married for seven, a total of thirteen years. In the last few years of our marriage, there was little communication between husband and wife. I was into my own dog training business and devoted the majority of my time building up a good reputation. I purchased a German Shepherd, who I named Duke. Within a few weeks, a relationship of love between my dog and me had developed. One morning, I ran out of the house in a hurry, leaving Duke behind in the kennel. I was negligent in closing the latch on the gate tightly. Unfortunately, I paid for that mistake. Duke followed me to Southern State Parkway and was hit by a car. It was July 13, 1972. Duke died the following day. Death, misfortunes, and mistakes labeled 13 as an unlucky number for me. If you are convinced that 13 is a bad-luck number, you will soon realize how quickly evil can turn to good when God has something to do with it. Thirteen became a solid foundation for the message that was to come.

The first awareness that something strange was happening to me came in 1976, about a month after my separation from my wife, Janet. I had a digital clock radio in my office,
