About this ebook
The Other Side of Camille is based on actual events in the life of a young single mom trying to escape the grips of a family legacy deep-rooted in dark religious beliefs, witchcraft, and satanism. Camille is characterized in the fight for her soul and that of her child against the forces of good and evil. In an escape to be free from the family legacy, she relocates the immediate family to a city and the church of Jesus Christ. Believing she is free, Camille takes on the dangerous task of attempting exorcisms that she was not equipped or qualified to explore, especially when you have not gone through complete healing and deliverance yourself, not fully addressing own possible trauma and mental illness; living in denial. The writer of the story witnessed at the time a series of strange, unexplained occurrences with not only Camille but a terrified child who appear to be under some type of spell with very little power to function independently. The writer is led to believe the story is a classic case found in Matthew 12:43–45, “When an unclean spirit leaves a person, it wanders through arid regions seeking rest without finding it. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came. And when it comes it finds the house swept clean and tidy. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself. And the last state of that person is worse than the first.’”

Meeting of the Minds
We met at a transit station in New York City by accident. I was returning from a day class, headed back to work. Running extremely late, Camille and I bumped heads, books scattered all over the platform of the station.
Laughing hysterically, Camille asked, What is your name?
Diana Winters.
As we continued to gather my belongings, I asked, Who did I have the pleasure of crashing craniums with?
More laughter, and she said, Camille Stapleton. Want to hear something funny? Just the other night I had a dream of meeting a woman that looked just like you. Do you believe in dreams?
"Sure, especially the kind that wakes you after consuming a large slice of cheesy, greasy pizza with extra jalapeño peppers. Dreaming of peppers dressed in top hats and tuxedos dancing around my head, singing MC Hammer’s You Can’t Touch This."
Camille roared with laughter and said, Here is my number. You get the chance, call me. We will have lunch.
The move to New York did not come without its challenges. Leaving family, childhood friends, and lots of new acquaintances through the Fair Housing Act of the Midwest, which originally came into play the consent to move forward, gave me this awesome transitioning position, mixed emotion of joy and tears. Receiving a promotion working through the Fannie Mae Foundation opened many doors of opportunity for me to expand my horizons and discover new and exciting cities and cultures. When the chance of transferring to New York came to pass, I volunteered immediately. Fannie Mae, a liaison to the New York City subsidized housing capital budget plan, allowed me the chance to explore Brooklyn and other cities within a four-hour radius, such as New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston, and Washington, D.C.
The company moved me into a small yet cozy and comfortable loft near office in Manhattan: living room, bath, kitchen, and bedroom stylishly decorated in creams, pops of red, and soft pastels. Before relocating from the Midwest, my intention was to bring only the bare necessities, leaving all other items including furniture and TV, even allowing Mom to care for beloved my Bruno, the family dog I raised. Bruno, being raised from a pup, now ten years old, really loved lounging on screened in porch, running after birds and squirrels in the huge backyard of my parents’ home. Bruno, the beagle, was a true outdoor animal. I felt selfish to take the joy of being outdoors from him during his golden years to live in small loft and limited outside access and neglected by my heavy work schedule. Three months before moving, I became the proud mama of Khloe, a Persian kitten. Khloe was on her way to becoming a Manhattan
