(From the dust of centuries, in America, the divine art must reappear the music, dance, and poetry of a higher transcendent sphere!)
This book is dedicated to Rose Liberte and all the family and friends that made it possible and to the future of our grandchildren—Ella Marie, Laraisa Rose, Nikunja Vilasi, Rozana Teresa, Carmina Iris, Malena Maya—and all future generations yet to come.
Manifesto!
Unto the Poets, Artists, and Musicians of America!
As we approach the dawning of a new American Era
Let us take this opportunity of a new cycle—
Let us take the torch of Liberty’s Flame and raise it high
Unto the uttermost reaches of the sky—
Through the darkness of a war-tossed world,
Let us raise the banner of America, of freedom, unfurled!
Let us see a Renaissance of art and culture, such as the world has never seen before!
An awesome splendour, to engender souls with the greatest hope—
Let the Torch of Freedom shine
Revealing to all mankind a sign
Of the Fiery Destiny towards which we grope!
For though long the night of darkness has been, and
It has been out pictured upon Life’s screen
In jangled rhythms, jazz, and discord of a world in decay—
Let our culture rise, a phoenix, from the ashes to the skies—
To reveal the Glories of a New Transcendent Day!
Let the ancient glories of a perfect Divine Geometry;
Cones, cubes, cylinders, and crystalline spheres,
From the classic Ages of Greece and Rome now reappear!
Let the mysteries of Michaelangelo, DaVinci, and Raphael,
Rubens, Titian, El Greco, and all the immortals
Be resurrected from behind the veil of Op Art distortion.
Let us, the artists of the New Dawn with new blood, bring a transfusion
To a World in need of Joy and Peace and Love’s Highest inspiration!
Let us approach our easels, pianos, notebooks with a sense of celebration!
With a sense of exultation, liberation, exhilaration!
Let us proclaim unto the ends of Earth a great Emancipation Proclamation—
From the dust of centuries, in America, the Divine Art must reappear—
The music, dance, and poetry of a higher transcendent sphere!
The beauteous tapestries of thought inspired by interstellar light
And the nearness of the Cosmos in the rocket’s bright glare—
From the Atomic release of Nuclear Age,
From the genetic mysteries, intercellular creation now discovered,
The True Culture of America’s advanced design must be uncovered!
We have come to the heights of a new Technology,
From the discoveries of molecular Life and solar energy
To reaching out unto vast universes yet unknown;
America has led the way, her resources have grown—
As the eagle soars, so too our vision has flown
To encompass the world in a majestic expanse
Of Hope for all of Earth’s technological advances,
In dreams for every man who walks the world to know
The Freedom to be, his happiness to pursue—
India’s Building of Commerce, 1998–2017
