Chapter 1
It’s the year 1816, when Tom Logan and Nikoli Jr. Vicna were the best of friends. Both were from Bucharest, Romania. They’d known each other since they were young. They were different from others because Tom was a werewolf, and Nikoli Jr. was a vampire. Nikoli Jr.’s father never really liked Tom only because he was a werewolf and thought he was better than Nikoli Jr. One night, they both were in the woods, feeding off people. They both heard female voices from a distance. They slowly started walking behind them because they were curious. The girls stopped by a lake, so the boys were deciding if they wanted to join them.
Nikoli Jr. I think we should join them. (Nikoli Jr. and Tom walk toward them.) Hello, young ladies. Are you lost? (The girls both giggle.)
Lucina. No, mister, we’re not. We come here all the time.
Nikoli Jr. What is your name? I’m Nikoli Jr., and this is Tom Logan.
Vivian, smiling. We know who you are. You’re King Nikoli’s son. This is Lucina, and I’m Vivian.
Nikoli Jr., smiling and whispering to Tom. Vivian is so beautiful. She would be perfect as my queen one day. (Vivian gives Tom this look as if she was interested in him.)
Everyone talked to each other most of the night and went for a walk.
Tom, stopping Vivian. How are you getting home?
Vivian. Well, it’s a beautiful night, so by walking.
Tom. It’s not safe at this time. Let me walk you home. (Vivian smiles and nods her head, accepting his offer.)
On the other hand, Nikoli Jr. overheard them. He gets mad when he doesn’t get what he wants, and Tom knew he wanted Vivian first. Nikoli Jr. walked Lucina home. They all would meet by the lake every night until Nikoli Jr. decided to move a meet-up at King Nikoli’s castle. Nikoli Jr. didn’t know Vivian knew his father because her parents were friends with his family, and they were also vampires. A few months later, Nikoli Jr. couldn’t believe his own best friend was marrying the one girl he loved, but he got married to Lucina the following year. Tom and Vivian moved to East Berlin, Germany, and Tom and Nikoli Jr. hadn’t seen each other ever since. Nikoli Jr. felt betrayed and unwanted by his own best friend.
(Eight years later, on October 24, 1824 in Bucharest, Romania.)
Nikoli Jr., entering the living room and yells. Father, tonight is the night you make me king! (Nikoli walks toward his father.)
King Vicna.
