Special thanks to my mom and dad, Cinda and Johnny Richard, for ongoing support and love. And a big shout out to Seema Sen, for keeping it real and being a loyal fan.
And I want to show love to my sisters: Natasha Slaughter, I love you; and Tracy Richard, whose up in heaven. She was my cheerleader and enjoyed scary and suspense stories and movies.
And again, thank you so much Christian Faith Publishing. I love each and every one of you. And shout out to my publication agent, Amanda Beary. We can talk about anything (LOL).
And thank you, church family at Praise Christian Center World Outreach. Thank you, Apostle Randolph, for the teaching of the word of God and helping me stay on the right path.
Much love to Baytown and Channelview, Texas and Houston, and many other surrounding areas. Thank you for the people in these areas who support me and God’s kingdom.
This story came to my mind on one of the best days of my life. I know many people don’t think scary and suspense stories are created from a joyous moment, but this one was indeed.
I write to entertain the mind and to feed truth at the same time. Writing is true joy, and I’m over the moon, excited for more stories on the way.
Krazy
. . . the hell gates open at midnight
try to escape your forfeited fate
. . . prepare yourselves to fight,
against the new dwellers at the Rain Gate
. . . lured on several stories of the Daystar care
dark mysteries buried behind closed doors
. . . keep your eyes open with holy water in hand
a burning sensation elopes from under the floors
. . . evil greets on every turn of the page
don’t be fooled, that red glow is not a guide
. . . trapped between the delusional and reality maze
you will be gasping, running with no place to hide
. . . sneakily, the serpent slides into a golden robe
and performs a Godmanship to all
. . . do not be charmed, and rise your hope
the dark evil forces, has begun to crawl

Hurry, Hurry!
Alex yells while Tod swerves the big SUV off the wet road onto a bumpy dirt trail.
Hill and Maria held on tight in the back seat. Jesus, Tod,
they both said.
Shut up guys, I believe I lost the pigs.
Lost your mind driving this fast.
Shut up, Maria,
Tod said, rolling his eyes.
The SUV hugged the small gravel road for about a mile. Tree branches hit the window, on a night with the full moon chasing their every move.
Suddenly Tod brakes hard, leaning everyone forward in the vehicle.
Tod, for the love of God—
Shhh! I almost hit some gate. It came out of nowhere. You’re welcome, by the way,
Tod said, laughing.
The headlights picked up a rusty old gate. Tod gets out the SUV, the rain was now a light drizzle. Tod walks up to the gate, fixing his blond hair out of his face. A rusty chain and lock kept the gate closed. Peering at the name, he reads it out loud, Daystar.
What do we do now?
Alex said.
Ram the gate,
Hill said, smiling.
The two girls in the vehicle looked at one another, shaking their heads. That’s when Tod noticed cop lights in the distance, coming up the trail. Guys . . . guys, get out of the car and follow me!
The three jump out of the car, following Tod. He noticed a few bars missing on the side of the gate they all can slip into. They all squeezed their way through.
Tod, our backpacks!
Maria yells.
You guys lay low. Don’t move, I’ll grab the backpacks.
They all backed off the trail, on to the tall grass, laying low. Tod darted to the SUV, jumped in, and grabbed the backpacks. The police car pulled up, with sirens screaming.
Hey, jerk, get back here!
the officer yelled with anger.
Tod Tossed all three bags over, now fitting back through the open gap of the gate. The rest of the guys jumped out the tall grass, grabbing the bags, and ran down the trail.
Hey, get back over here!
the officer said, holding on to the gate, with a smirk on his face.
His partner gets out slowly, holding the flashlight. Guess we give them until sunrise.
Both cops looked at one another and smiled, holding on to their duty belts. Meanwhile, Maria, Tod, Hill, and Alex slowed their pace.
We left them,
Tod says, looking behind him.
Whoa, guys, check it out!
Alex said.
In the distance, they now see a big hospital, massive in size.
Daystar,
Tod mumbled.
Day what?
Hill said.
Oh yeah, Daystar was some hospital, not long ago closed down,
Alex said as they all kept walking.
Well, we have to lay low here until we shake the cops.
Tod said.
Aw heck naw, man, are you stupid?
Hill said.
Okay, be a beaver nut, you sissy.
Tod chuckled.
Hill pushed Tod.
Okay, guys, stop it. It’s best we go inside, alright. Besides, I’m sure the cops are going to be at the end of the trail, trying to cut us off. And if they do make it to the hospital, we can easily sneak out and burn off,
Maria said calmly.
She’s right, and we’ll be back on our campus in time for our finals,
Alex said.
Everyone but Hill made their way toward the hospital. Hill stood shaking his head in disbelief.
C’mon, Hill, before the cops beat you,
Alex winked at him and laughed.
The rain started to pick back up. Now they ran to escape the thick rain drops, which now fell with no remorse.
Hill and Tod made it to the sliding door entrance of the hospital, which was slightly open. The door squeaked, piercing their ears, as they pulled the door back. Alex reached in her bag pulling out her cell phone, using her flashlight app. The bright light shone through the darkness, showing a large room with dusty chairs and a large secretary and nurse station.
*****
First Floor
Strong winds moaned through the building, and heavy rain fell, with sharp powerful thunder heard from time to time.
Thank God we’re inside,
Maria said, standing next to Alex.
Tod walked around the nurse stations with his flashlight on from his cell phone and reading the scattered paper on the desk.
Hey guys, do you smell food?
Alex said, looking puzzled. The four now slowly walked to the end of the room, staring down a dark, long hall. The smell of food was heavy.
Smells like barbecue . . . doesn’t make sense,
Hill said, scratching his head.
Must be a window that’s open, and some house near the trail—
That’s what, barbecuing at 9:00 p.m.? In the hard rain?
Tod laughed at Hill.
Screw you, Tod!
Hill looked on, irritated.
They continued down the hall. Their phone lights picked up the name Cafeteria off an old sign in faded red letters. Then a loud clang of the front sliding door was heard, leaving them jumping in fear.
Aaahhh!
Alex and Maria screamed. Hill and Tod played calm, but fear was sinking in.
They all powered walked down the hall, into the opening of the cafeteria. Maria stumbled on to a backpack on the floor.
Picking it up, Tod and Alex’s cell phone flashlights combed the cafeteria, the scent of food that lingered left.
Standing in the middle of the room, they gathered around each other.
Could be the police. Hill, stay with the ladies. I’m going to make sure it’s not the cops who slammed that door.
Tod runs off
At the other far end was an elderly woman sitting. Alex noticed her.
Oh my!
Alex said, startled.
We didn’t see her when we first got in this room,
Hill whispered.
Heavy footsteps were heard above their heads on the second floor. The three of them looked up, only to look back where the old lady was once sitting.
Okay, I’m out!
Maria said, heading back, followed by Alex and Hill. Making their way to the front, they caught up with Tod.
Bro, we saw this old lady and heard some footsteps above us. Then the old bird was gone!
Hill said, looking on worried.
I can’t find the front sliding door,
Tod said.
What you mean?!
Hill’s voice rising.
Hill, you know the entrance we came from.
Everyone started walking to the front of the hospital, hoping they overlooked the entrance due to the darkness. Panic started to come alive in the atmosphere.
Oh, Lord, this isn’t happening,
Maria started to laugh, trying to hide her fear. This is the area . . . I remember the nurse’s station and chair that was near the entrance of the door.
I’m very sure the old lady you guys saw is homeless. I’m certain she knows her way out,
Tod said, trying to keep the guys calm.
Maria knelt, opening the backpack she picked up from earlier. As the rest looked on, Tod aimed his light toward her. The wind and hard rain was heard in the background.
Our clothes are damp from the rain. We can’t get no service from our phones . . . just like the white horror flicks . . . and my black butt still followed you all—
Shut up, Hill, I’m black also, fool, and we are in this together. Everything is fine,
Alex said.
Maria pulled out a small book, a hospital ID card, a large flashlight with extra batteries, and a small note she read out loud.
You must make it to the tenth floor, Abby. Good luck!
Maria stood up after reading the note out loud.
So, Abby is in this place, or maybe she made the tenth floor,
Tod replied.
Hill takes the large flashlight and turned it on, the light very bright, pushing the darkness away.
There, I see another hallway,
Hill said.
The four quick-footed their way to the hall, with Hill taking lead as he moved the flashlight side to side. Some of the room doors were open. The flashlight picked up room 107. Hill slowly opened the door. They saw a bed with no covers, a dusty TV, and a sink next to a sharps container.
Alex turned on the faucet, the sound of air was heard traveling through the pipes.
This place has been closed for almost two years,
Maria said, reading the small book. This was a mental hospital!
Okay, it’s time to go! I don’t care about rain, matter of fact, I don’t care if the cops take me in. This place was for the crazies!
Hill said with his hand on his forehead.
For once, can you please grow some nuts? Seriously, I mean if you want to go, get soaked in the rain then beat by the cops, be my guest,
Tod said, looking at Hill.
"Guys, stop the child act.
