The Journey to Egypt According to the book of Genesis And Exodus
()
About this ebook
This book was inspired by the movie The Ten Commandments, starring Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner. This movie told the story of how God's people were delivered out of bondage and slavery by Moses, played by Charlton Heston. God appeared to Moses in a bush that burned but was not consumed. He was instructed by God to go to Egypt and tell Pharaoh, played by Yul Brynner, to let his people go. However, it's not common knowledge of how the Hebrews became slaves. This book, The Journey to Egypt, tells the story bit by bit of how God's people became slaves and eventually were set free, as God prophesied to Abraham.

In the year 1987, the Lord called me to pastor my first church. My first sermon was from my favorite scripture, Psalm 91:1, He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
When I was nineteen years old, I knew that I was called to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, but, of course, I was not at all confident in myself to handle such an enormous task. So I went to my pastor at the time, who was Dr. W. H. Banks, who had a great influence over my life. I asked him how one would know that they have been called to preach. His answer was You will know when you know.
That was not an answer to me, not at all what I was looking for. So I prayed. On that next Sunday evening, we had a three o'clock service. The Lord spoke to me through a bird flying in the sky as I walked out of the church full of spirit. Preach my Word.
The next Sunday, I confessed my calling to the gospel plow.
So to God be the glory for all the things that he has done in my life. The Lord led me to join the United States Marine Corps in 1980, and with that done, he has allowed me to be able to preach from coast to coast. And also he allowed me to go to the Far East, to a place called Okinawa, Japan, and not only pastor my first church but also be the founder of Acts Tabernacle Christian Center Church in 1987. This church is still in existence today. Many churches overseas had to close their doors because of rotating military status, but God's grace would keep the doors of the church he gave me open, and I thank him.
To the one who introduced me to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I give honor to my mother, Georgia Lamb Roundtree. At an early age, she took me to Sunday school morning worship, BTU, and not to mention night service. At the age of seven, she asked me if I would like to be baptized. I said yes, I would like to be baptized. So on the first Sunday in February 1966, I was baptized by the late Dr. James Lightfoot. He was our pastor's right-hand man.
I cannot say enough about my wife, V. Marie Roundtree. She reminds me so much of my mother. She was born and raised in the Church of God in Christ, and her father was a pastor as well in the church. She, on her own free will, joined with me in a Baptist Church. The Lord sent me to Trinity MBC.
The Lord gave me three wonderful children: an older son, thirty-five, and a set of twins, a boy and a girl, who are twenty-nine years old. They do not give my wife and me any problems at all. They are, in fact, going to school themselves also to get their master's degree. Our daughter is in nursing, and her twin brother is in pharmaceuticals. Our oldest son is a supervisor in the control tower at Bush Airport.
I was a member of a church called Christian Hope for a period of thirty-plus years, and when our pastor died, my wife and I decided that we would both go back to the Church of God in Christ, but before doing so, we would now have a chance to visit some churches at this point before we joined. So we did visit quite a few churches before we came to Trinity MBC. My wife and I were going through some legal matters that popped up all of a sudden. So while we were at Trinity, while there at the altar, my wife said, Let us go down and ask for some to agree with us in prayer concerning our situation.
So we went for prayer, and that is what led us even more to join the Trinity because of the strength of the one who prayed for us, and God answered our prayer. He gave us the victory in a few short months.
What can I say about my pastor Dr. A. K. Eakins Sr. This young man has an old soul that is able to reach the elderly and still not lose the young adults at the same time. In fact, young people flock to him. His ministry has more young ministers than the elderly. Before you can turn around, another young man is confessing his call to the ministry. Now we have two sixteen-year-old preachers sitting in the pulpit. Now don't get me wrong, he seeks God's guidance when they come to him first in private. He requested that they strongly seek God's face concerning this confession. This is nothing to play with. It is a very serious calling, and be sure that it is God and not just a whim.
Going back to school at the age of fifty-seven was not in my plans, but God, once again under my pastor, talked me into it. Now at first, I was a little shaky about the whole idea, but now God has calmed me down after much prayer and fasting about going back to school. The good thing about this is my chancellor is the Church of God in Christ. This is where I got my learning of the Word of God. So this is right up my alley. It amazes me how God works in my life. I am so content with going to Kingdom Builders Bible School. This will aid me in my ministry enormously, and I owe it all to God in how he has orchestrated my life in the spiritual realm as well as the natural. Paul said, Would you prosper even as your soul prospers.
I thank God for Kingdom Builders Bible Seminary, for I have obtained so much information on how to write out a sermon correctly and how to teach my Sunday school class more effectively, so I thank God for Dr. P. H. Anderson, our director, teacher, founder, and chancellor, but most of all a true woman of God.
Introduction
From the first book of the Bible, Genesis, the English word that means in Latin and from the Greek title to this book. In Hebrew, the book was named from its word that means in the beginning.
Genesis means origin
and is an apt title for a book that reveals the origins of all human history (King James Version).
Genesis is the first book of the largest in the books of the Old Testament called Pentateuch. The authorship of which has traditionally been ascribed to Moses. The critical view of the authorship of the Pentateuch has passed through several stages. At first, Genesis was divided into two documents on the basis of the use of the two different names for God—Elohim and Yahweh. This book also contains important theological themes—the doctrine of the living, personal God; the doctrine of mankind made in the image of God; the sinful man; the anticipation of a redeemer (Genesis 3:15); and the covenant made to the nation of Israel, which brings me to the reason I wanted to write this paper on how the children of Israel became slaves. Many people know how they were delivered—if nothing else, by the movie The Ten Commandments, starring the late Charlton Hesston—but I wanted to do a story on how it all began with a man called Abraham.
Chapter 1
In the Beginning
Genesis 15:13 states, "And God said to Abram, know of a surety that your seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years.¹ I am the Almighty God." A deep sleep fell upon Abram. With this sleep, a horror of great darkness fell upon him: a sudden change. The children of light do not always walk in the light. Several
