About this ebook

We each control the path in life we take...or so we like to believe.

More often than not, events in our lives are far out of our control. Groups of young adults learn this fact the hard way when three brothers come to Earth and claim to be the gods of games. These three gods, in an effort to end their century-long boredom, decide to use these humans as game pieces see which group of humans come out on top. Unfortunately, in order for some humans to win, many must die. And just like humans, each take this matter differently: some accept, others deny, and few look for another way. But regardless of how they may feel, one fact that can't be avoided is that blood will spill. This situation or this game, known as Warterria, will push the humans to the brink. The human psyche will be tormented and tested. And in order to survive, some will have to relive the horrible darkness of their past while others discover the ugly monster that exists within them. Will the humans tear each other apart in order to preserve their own life, or will they work together to stop the true enemy and put an end to a god's game?

Author

Andrew Whyte

Creative, methodical, and passionate. These are the traits that best describe the fresh, new author, Andrew Whyte. He was born and raised in New Jersey and graduated from Kean University. As a child, Andrew spent most of his free time doodling and developing short comics. As he got older the doodling stopped, but his desire to tell stories continued to grow. When he isn’t reading comic books, watching anime, or playing games, Andrew enjoys turning his overactive imagination into full-fledged fiction novels. Some of his favorite stories contain psychological, suspenseful themes that focus on morality and human nature. Andrew’s goal is to become a writer that blends together the wonders of fantasy with the cruelty of reality into epic tales you won’t want to miss. A God’s Game: Tiebreaker, Part 2 is his third book and the last installment in the A God’s Game series. Game Changer

Your move, Vokai groaned as he slowly moved his hovering gladiator game piece over two squares ahead of its previous position. The piece reached the desired spot and lowered, still floating slightly above the gold-colored glowing game board. He looked at the rest of his pieces on the three-dimensional board. Each game piece resembled a warrior holding a different weapon and stance. He looked at his swordsman, who stood tall and heroic holding a shield and sword, then he turned to his assassin—slightly crouched, holding daggers menacingly in both hands—and so on. He sighed as he noticed that there were very few pieces left on the game board. Vokai started to float off the ground and gave a big yawn. He instinctively began to spin as he stared at the game board. Bograv, seemingly looking at the game board intensely, started to sway side to side. Vokai looked at Bograv and growled as his nose flared and his teeth gritted together. He quietly floated above the game board toward Bograv. The agitated Vokai breathed in calmly.

Arise, brother! Vokai yelled. Bograv took a few seconds, but eventually opened his eyes completely.

Apologies, little brother, Bograv said with a tired smile. Vokai grunted with his arms crossed as he hovered back to his original spot. Bograv viewed the game board reluctantly like a kid viewing his history homework. Suddenly, a yellow and green winged creature landed on a tree next to the brothers and began to chirp. Bograv turned his attention toward the forest creature. As he turned his head away, the brother took one of his game pieces and moved it, almost instinctively attacking one of his little brother's pieces. The little brother's defeated game piece faded away as Bograv held out his finger horizontally and began to whistle. Vokai rolled his eyes and turned his head to the cliff that they were playing near.

The turn is now yours, brother, come hither, he shouted. By the cliff, Allgomac, the eldest brother, floated over the edge. Allgomac looked off into the distance at the mountain line. He hovered over the edge with his legs crossed, right elbow on his knee and his chin in his right hand. The sun went down on them as gentle breezes passed every so often. Allgomac sighed as he looked out at the beautiful landscape.

Eldest brother, I know thou heard my call. Make haste with your move, Vokai explained. Allgomac didn't move from his spot, instead he raised his left hand. At the same time, his archer on the board hovered higher than the other pieces. Then, he pointed forward and slightly to the left, and like a puppet, the game piece followed moving in a diagonal path over the game board. Finally, he put his hand down, and the game piece floated downward to its new position.

That was easily foreseen, Vokai argued as he lowered himself to view the pieces from the game board level.

What move hasn't been? Allgomac snapped back confidently as he lowered himself to the ground and stood up on the grassy plain. Allgomac walked over to his two brothers and the game board. He crouched near the board viewing every piece still in play. He looked over to Vokai and asked, How many moves remain before this game's end?

Seven, exactly, Vokai confirmed without hesitation.

Agreed, the firstborn responded as he turned toward Bograv. After that, it will end as it has before.

In a draw, Bograv said as the winged creature finally came near and rested on his outward pointed finger.

I grow weary of this repeated result. We've been playing this game for a millennium, and the outcome is always the same: a draw. Allgomac pouted as he stood up straight. He gave a big sigh as he aimlessly walked through the game board. Ripples travelled through the board as the eldest brother's legs phased through it. Allgomac looked off into the distance toward a forest. His shoulders lowered sluggishly as he kicked a rock on the ground. He looked down at the ground and crouched to pick up another rock. He picked up the rock and saw a bug at the corner of his eyesight. Standing straight once again, he tilted his head to the side as he stared at a black-and-red insect scurrying across the dirt. The insect continued with haste in a straight path. Suddenly, a giant wall shaped like a man's boot slammed on the ground in front of the bug. The creature fell back after it got hit by the sheer force of the wall hitting the ground. The bug quickly changed direction and rushed across the dirt. On cue, the wall appeared once more in front of the shaken creature. The insect stood completely still, not even moving an antenna. Then, another shadow appeared above the bug. The shadow grew darker with each passing second. The day turned to night for the bug as it was completely cloaked in darkness. The insect's life came to an end when the rock casting the shadow crashed against the ground. The hand that released the stone closed and retracted.

I have an idea. Allgomac smiled as he rubbed the dust off his hands.

A different game, I presume? Vokai assumed as he continued to turn his floating body.

Something like that, he replied. He raised his hands and put them together. Suddenly, his hands began to glow as light tried to shine through his fingers. He quickly spread his hands apart as a projection was released. The projection stretched wide, surrounding Allgomac. The projection was filled with sparkling lights and round spheres surrounded in white dust. The projection was a map of the universe. The two other brothers stood up and looked at each other in confusion.

What trickery are you plotting, brother? Vokai barked as he floated over to his eldest brother.

    What is a game?

A test of one's skills and abilities, Bograv answered.

A contest that determines one's status, Vokai added.

Both statements are truth, but the integrity of our game has been lost. It's time to renew that fire of our game Warterria. Allgomac smiled.

Aye, but shouldn't we do so with a different game? Bograv snapped his fingers, and the game board and pieces disappeared. Thrusting his pointed finger forward, Bograv watched calmly as the winged creature flew off his finger like a plane leaving the ground. Then he walked over to his two brothers and said, I presume we were distancing ourselves from it.

We are, somewhat, Allgomac responded as he looked through the projection of the universe. He moved his hands in a swiping motion to change the view from planet to planet.

Enough riddles, brother. Why do you gaze at the universe at this time? What do you propo— Vokai paused as his eyebrows rose. His face went from confusion to intrigue.

I was thinking we can play Warterria just on a grander scale, the eldest brother said.

You're proposing we use a lesser species to play it, Bograv clarified.

Aye, Allgomac responded, still searching through planets.

And tell me, brother, how will taking control of a species not just end with the same result? Vokai countered.

Who said anything about taking control of them? We would have to alter the game slightly, but even so, this could result in wonders, Allgomac proclaimed as he turned to his brothers with woeful eyes. I'm weary of Warterria ending the same way. Our favorite game, my brothers, has become dull and colorless. We are of equal skill, so our game has borne no winner nor losers. A tragic way for us to live, brothers.

Aye, a game that lacks winners and losers is no game at all. Vokai nodded with his arms crosed.

I see, so you're suggesting a game of chance, a game focused more on risk rather than our skill, Bograv said as he put his hand to his face and rubbed his chin. He gave a slight smirk and said, Maybe a shake-up would breathe life back into our game. I'm agreed.

The eldest brother turned to his youngest brother and asked, Not only that, but our game will finally bear a winner. What say you, brother?

Vokai placed his arms behind his head and leaned back in a lounging position. He chuckled and said, Why not? It's about time we find out who can best who. What planet do you propose, brother?

The projection finally stopped moving as the eldest brother pointed to the planet in full view and said, This one.

This planet!? Vokai cried, hunching over with his hand on his head. The species of this planet named it after dirt. Why this planet?

This species hasn't made contact with other planets to reach out for aid, uncertain of whether other life even exists or not. They have some advances in technology and science, and yet they still fight among themselves. This planet is perfect, Allgomac explained. We can learn more about them as we prepare.

    ‘Prepare?' Vokai questioned.

We must alter and agree to the rules we are going to change to our game, little brother, Bograv explained.

Aye. So once more are you two certain you wish to play? the eldest brother asked with smile and cockiness in his voice.

Agreed. This may prove quite amusing, the middle brother stated with a subtle smile.

Of course, agreed, time to reveal which brothers are the losers and the winner of games, Vokai shouted with a big childish smile across his face.

As the gods prepared to take their game of Warterria to greater heights, the rest of the beings in the universe worked to complete the tasks of their daily existence. On Earth, people are always on the move, always busy. Parents go to their humdrum jobs, cars swim through the lanes trying to beat the traffic, and students attend schools to learn what they can. It was the middle of the day in Pennsylvania and classes at local colleges were taking place.

Now who can tell me what first-degree murder is, the professor asked as he turned away from the chalkboard. He looked around only to meet deer in headlight faces staring back at him. Come on, someone has to know.

In the front row, the professor saw a hand confidently rise above the other heads in the class. The professor said as he pointed to Greg, Yes, Greg.

First-degree murder is, to put it simply, killing that is done willfully or planned ahead, Greg explained as he adjusted his glasses from the side to prevent it from slipping off his face.

Good. And the punishment for first-degree murder, the professor added, gesturing Greg to continue.

Greg cleared his throat and said, Well, the punishment varies depending on the state, of course. However, typically, the punishment is a life sentence or the death penalty.

Exactly, right. Very good, Mr. Carson, the professor said happily. Now, class—

Suddenly, the professor heard the closing of books and the zipping of backpacks. He looked around and saw students beginning to pack their supplies. He lifted his arm and shook it slightly to move his sleeve and revealed his watch. He read his watch and said, It seems I'm out of time. Well, I wouldn't want to keep you. Remember, everybody, read the next chapter. I'll be lecturing about it next week.

Greg left the classroom and walked down the crowded hallway. As Greg was walking, he suddenly felt a pinch in the back of his head. He grabbed the back of his head and quickly turned around. He looked down and saw a rubber band on the floor. Greg crouched to pick up the rubber band and was startled when it was snatched out of his hand.

Thanks for holding on to it for me. Appreciate it, a boy snickered as he put the rubber band in his pocket.

You're an idiot, Jeremy. Greg smiled as he swung at Jeremy.

See? I told ya, Sam, we would be able to find him here, Jeremy said to the boy standing next to him.

Next time, Jeremy, be little more careful. You could've hit someone else, Greg said as he folded his arms.

Yeah, yeah, whatever, Dad, Jeremy said, not really seeming to care. You worry too damn much, Greg.

Sam started to walk forward and complained, Are you two done? C'mon, we said we were going to get lunch now, and I'm hungry.

The three pushed their way through the crowded hall. Eventually, they got to the exit door and left the building. The sun rose bright today on Greg's campus. Students were walking from building to building in order to get to their classes. Few of them rode their skateboards to get around faster. On the grass, some students put down their bags and started to throw and catch frisbees. Some sat down on sidewalk benches either talking to the people around them or on their phone. There were couple of students loitering near building entrances just talking on their phone.

Aww, man. Great, Sam whined as he pointed toward people as they came in and out of the main building, there is no way the cafeteria isn't going to be full already.

Don't worry, Sammy, I'm sure Mr. President here will be able to clear a table for us. Jeremy chuckled as he swung his arm slapping Greg's back, causing Greg to jerk forward.

We both know it doesn't work that way, Jeremy. Greg sighed, adjusting his glasses. The three boys started their walk over to the main building. Sam probed, Speaking of that, how's your campaign going anyway, Greg?

Good. People know that I'm running again, and everyone I've talked to has been pretty supportive. Greg smiled.

Man, class prez for four years, Sam said as he put his hands behind his head as they continued to walk, that's crazy.

If it happens, Jeremy murmured as he took out his phone from his pocket.

Negativity gets you nowhere, Jeremy, Greg proclaimed. Jeremy unlocked his phone and started to swipe and pressed his finger against his phone a couple of times. He held his phone up so Sam and Greg were also able to see it and asked, Have you guys been on Twitter lately?

Jeremy swiped his finger against his phone and explained, Don Bertman sent a poll to the seniors of our school to see who they were going to vote for. He put the results on his Twitter page.

Greg and Sam leaned in to view Jeremy's phone. The results of the poll were shown on top of Don's page. The results had Don's and Greg's name on it with a bar next to both of their names. The bar next to Don's name was slightly longer. Sam read, Huh, 54 percent for Don and 46 percent for Greg. Well…that's not good.

Sam and Jeremy looked at each other. Then, they both looked at Greg. At first, Greg was silent, then he looked back at the two of them and smiled.

Would you two relax? This is just an unofficial poll, the competition is still going on. In the end, the students will pick who they believe is better suited for the position, Greg suggested as he walked forward, and then he turned back at Jeremy and Sam. Now, come on, I thought you two were hungry.

Eventually, the three got to the main building. They walked through the lobby then headed down a corridor that led to the cafeteria. Greg stopped and told them that he was heading to the bathroom. Greg turned toward the bathroom door as his friends continued to the cafeteria. Greg opened the door and headed into the restroom.

Somewhere else in the state of Florida, the clouds prevented the sun from hitting the ground with its intense rays. The trees danced as the strong winds persuaded them to do as such. On this campus, there were a few students on the field exercising. Some stretched on the football field while others ran the track around it.

Ha, I win, again, Blake cheered, throwing his arms in the air. You guys suck.

Blake trotted around happily on the track ground. He turned behind him and saw his two friends panting and sweating. One friend hunched over, putting his hands over knees as he struggled to catch his breath. The other slowly came over dragging his feet. Eventually he stopped and fell. He spun letting his back hit the ground. He spread his arms and legs out as he continued to pant heavily. Suddenly, he started to move with a small jerk each time he coughed. Blake heard the coughing and looked at his friends shaking his head.

Jacob, Will! What the hell is wrong with you two? Blake barked as he grabbed his shirt collar and began to wipe the sweat from his forehead.

Now I'm starting to think jogging four laps then racing wasn't such a good idea, Jacob whimpered as he struggled to sit up.

Yeah, that's the last time I agree to a stupid idea like that, Will grunted.

You both sound pathetic, Blake mocked. The coach would give you two a lot of shit for talking like that.

Will walked over to Jacob and stretched out his hand. Jacob grabbed it and got lifted off the ground. Jacob coughed a couple more times before turning to Blake. Blake stretched his arm in front and behind him. Then he swung his arms and jumped with small hops, getting his legs ready to move. Blake asked, You guys ready or what?

Again? Will blurted as his eyes widened and wrinkles on his forehead started to show. Jacob shouted as he started to leave the track, Screw that! I'm done!

Fine. Will and I will continue then, Blake said. Blake turned to see Jacob leaving and, to his surprise, Will's departure as well. Blake rolled his eyes and said, Okay, I guess we'll continue tomorrow.

The three friends headed to the fitness building near the field and track. In the fitness building, there were gyms, exercise rooms, dance rooms, medical center, and other utilities for students to stay fit and healthy. Blake, Jacob, and Will headed to the locker room to wipe off. The three each grabbed a fresh face towel to dry their head and neck. Blake quickly wiped his face, then dried his armpits. He quickly turned to Jacob and threw his towel at the back of his head. Jacob freaked out and swiftly threw the towel off him. Jacob frantically wiped his neck in disgust.

Asshole, Jacob grunted as Will and Blake laughed. Blake smirked. That's what you get for quitting so early.

    Whatever, Jacob murmured.

Don't you think you're overreacting, anyway, Blake? Will asked. Will unlocked one of the lockers and took out his duffel bag. Will dropped his duffel bag on the floor. He opened it up and took a shirt out, laying it on a bench.

Overreacting? Guys, not one, not two, but three scouts are supposed to be at our next game, Blake explained as he opened his own locker. This is our last year here, I'm not going to waste this.

Blake, that's just a rumor, Jacob mocked as he walked over to the water fountain. There's no way that shit is real.

Well, I'm not chancing shit. I'm going pro, but don't worry, I'll let you two come along for the ride. You can be the leaders of my fan club or something, Blake joked.

    Screw you. Jacob smiled.

Would you two hurry up and change before Blake's ego suffocates all of us? Will snickered. Blake pulled on his sweaty shirt and cringed intensely. He said, Think I'm going to shower before I leave. I sweated more than I thought I would today.

Will and Jacob left Blake on his own. He threw his bag back in his locker. Blake closed his locker and locked it. Then Blake's towel suddenly fell to the ground.

Now in a city over in Virginia, the clouds were gray and heavy, pouring down something fierce. The pouring rain hit the ground hard making it difficult to walk through. The rain fell fast with no signs of stopping. People walked in raincoats and with big umbrellas, trying to stay dry. Xavier drove with his windshield wipes on the highest speed. He drove cautiously through the unforgiving rain. He felt a slight bump when he drove over a puddle as he turned into his parents' driveway. He parked his car and stepped out into the downpour. He lazily lifted his hood over his head as he walked toward the house. Xavier unlocked the front door and stepped into the living room.

Ray? You didn't tell me you were coming home today, his mother exclaimed from the couch.

I…I just felt like coming home this weekend, he mumbled. Xavier's mother walked over to him and gave him a hug. Xavier probed softly, Where's he?

He's—he's still out…somewhere, his mother answered as she pinched at Xavier's wet clothes. Anyway, go change. You're soaked. I'll make you something to eat when you come back.

Thanks, Mom. Xavier said as he went toward the stairs. He went up the stairs to the second floor. He dragged his feet down the hall. On his way to his room, he stopped in front of his father's office. Xavier sighed as he walked into the office room. He walked around in his father's office until he reached a cabinet. He knelt down and opened the bottom drawer of the cabinet and took out a wooden case. Later, he slowly opened the door of his room. He entered his room and immediately locked the door. He put the case carefully on his desk. Xavier quickly changed his clothes and stuck the wet ones in a hamper. He took a blank paper out his backpack and picked up a pen on his desk. He sat at his desk and began to write on the paper bit by bit. Suddenly, he put down the pen and looked at the paper. He picked up the paper and stared at it, reading each word carefully. Then, without warning, he crumpled up the paper and threw it in the trash. Xavier held his head down in his hands then looked at the wooden case. He proceeded to open up the wooden case. He lifted up the cover and looked inside the case. Then, he disappeared instantaneously.

Meanwhile, Allgomac relaxed on top of a tall building looking down at the rushing cars, the crowded sidewalks, and the other workings of society. The middle brother appeared floating next to his eldest brother.

Things are well, brother? the eldest brother asked.

Aye, on my end, things are set, Bograv answered.

Then, on cue, Vokai appeared on the other side of the eldest brother and cheered, As for me, my pawns are also in their place.

Good, Allgomac smiled, closing his eyes in contentment. He opened his eyes and turned to both his brothers. He stood tall and slightly lifted his head, giving a big, cocky smile. The eldest brother shouted, Then, let's commence.

    *****

Back over with Greg, who slowly tried to open his heavy eyelids. He rubbed his eyes to clear his blurry vision. He repeatedly blinked his eyes as his sight slowly became clear. He looked to the sides and realized that he is on the floor. He held his head in distress as he sluggishly forced himself to sit up. He checked his phone and saw that it won't turn on. Greg clenched his teeth as he tried rubbing his head to get rid of his anguish. He gradually rose to his feet and looked around in confusion. He found himself in a big, clean, and bare room. On his right, there was a bed, but with no sheets or pillows. On his left, there was a big cabinet with empty drawers slightly open. In front, he saw a doorway leading to an adjacent room that was completely bare. With a further inspection, he saw that the room was big enough to walk into but too small for furniture.

A walk-in closet. Am I in someone's house? How would I have gotten here? Greg thought.

Suddenly a fade thud was heard that sounded like it came from the first floor. He looked around the room and saw a window. He went over to it and took the curtain off. He swiftly removed the curtain and carried the curtain rod with him. He saw his backpack on the floor where he was lying down. He picked up his bag and put it over his shoulders. He saw the bedroom door and reluctantly left the room. Greg cautiously left the room and stepped out in the hallway. Greg walked slow down the hall carrying the curtain rod. He gripped one end of the curtain rod preparing to swing if needed. He reached a big flight of stairs and began to go down. At the bottom of the stairs, he stood at the foyer and saw the front door. He went over to the front door. Before trying to open it, Greg noticed marks, scrapes, and dents all over the door. He noticed the pattern and realized the violent nature showed that someone tried to break down the door to open it. He tried the door, and unsurprisingly, it didn't open. He continued his search. He looked into each area and checked every corner before fully entering the room. Greg slowly and quietly approached another room. Just as he stuck his head in, a chair went flying past the doorway.

    Woah, Greg yelped in shock.

Right after, three or four people in the room gave a quick yelp. He stepped back and dropped the curtain rod. The two of the people ran over to the doorway and saw Greg trying to catch his breath. The two people were two boys that looked to be around the same age as Greg. One was a boy named Jamal, and the other was named Jimmy. Jamal was dark-skinned, with cornrows and about the same height as Greg. He had an expression that said he doesn't like to be bothered. Jimmy was Caucasian and a bit taller than both of them with curly brown hair. Suddenly, two other boys named Axel and Eric and a girl named Emily ran in from the other side of the room worried. Axel was Hispanic with short, straight black hair and of average height. Eric walked in behind Axel, with pale skin and curly, brown hair. Emily was behind Axel and Eric. She was Chinese American and had a shy look on her face. Her eyes were a little red, seemingly from crying. Axel looked at Greg and sighed. Looks like you guys found another one.

Jamal and Jimmy reentered the room they were in. Greg, feeling unsettled, stepped into the room that looked to be the living room. He looked over to his right and saw two girls sitting on the couch catching their breath after being startled before. The girl on the left was Veronica, and the one on the right was Skylar. Veronica was Cuban with a medium skin tone and curly, black hair that went down to her neck. Skylar was Caucasian with piercing blue eyes and long blond hair. Greg turned to his left and saw another sliding door with a chair lying on the floor in front of it.

We were trying to break the glass. But it must be made of steel or some shit because the shit didn't even crack, Jamal growled as he leaned against the wall.

Greg gave Jamal a worried look. Axel, Eric, and Emily walked into the room behind Greg. Emily slowly took a seat on the couch. Eric stood next to the sliding door and looked over at Jamal. Axel paced back and forth looking shaken up. Eric said to Jamal, We found the girl unconscious in another room. She doesn't know what's going on either.

Great, Jamal said, turning to Greg. Yo, Light Skin, I guess you don't know shit about this either, right?

Greg. My name is Greg, Greg replied, and no, I don't. I just woke up in an upstairs bedroom.

All right! Enough of this shit! I can't take it anymore, Axel blurted out, throwing his arms in the air and scaring the girls in the room. Whoever's house this is, just let us out! This prank isn't funny!

Everyone looked at Axel. After a few seconds, they glanced at each other, but no one said anything. Jamal argued walking over to Axel aggressively, And how do we know this ain't yo fault?

Oh, come on. Really? Axel said, rolling his eyes and turning away from Jamal. Jamal aggressively tapped Axel on his shoulder, turning Axel back toward him.

We're all clueless right now…as far as we know, Jamal barked as he slowly walked closer in Axel's face, so for all I know, you can be behind this shit!

Greg stepped in between Jamal and Axel. He put his arms in front of both of their chests trying to keep them separated. Greg declared, Let's try to stay calm and figure this out. Getting mad at each other isn't going to help.

Jamal quickly swiped Greg's hand away and growled, And what exactly are we supposed to do? Apparently, no one here knows shit.

Then let's talk about what we do know and fill in the blanks from there, Greg suggested calmly.

    Whatever, Jamal growled.

Jamal walked away and went back to leaning against the wall. Axel sighed and took a seat on the coffee table in the middle of the living room. Greg turned to the rest of the people in the room. Greg hinted as he scanned the room, So from the look of it, there is…eight of us, then?

As far as we know, Axel whimpered with his head lowered and shoulders sunk. We went to look around. We found her, but didn't find anyone else.

I see. Well, first off, let's get names out of the way, Greg explained. It will make things easier. Like I said before, my name is Greg. Greg Carson.

Everyone looked around the room glancing at each other. Jimmy and Jamal looked at each other then looked away. Axel attempted to speak, but closed his mouth immediately. Eric turned his head and looked out the sliding doors. Veronica folded her arms and didn't say anything while Skylar crossed her legs and turned her head toward the wall.

If it is true that no one here is responsible, then just giving names shouldn't be too hard, Greg consoled. "If not, then we just have to refer to each other as You."

Jamal sighed and shook his head. Jamal. The name's Jamal…Greg, Jamal huffed.

Uh, my name is Jimmy, he said, sitting on a small table next to the couch.

A-Axel, the boy on the coffee table mumbled as he looked up at Eric.

Eric caught Axel's glance at the corner of his eye. Greg turned to Eric as well. Eric looked back out toward the sliding door. He sighed and said, Eric. My name's Eric.

Skylar, she announced as she moved her hair from in front of her face.

My name's Veronica, the girl next to Skylar said as she sat back in the couch.

Em-Emily, the timid girl said quietly.

Okay, well, that's a start. Greg smiled. I was unconscious in an upstairs bedroom and came down when I heard noise. I guess that's the same for everyone else?

Yeah, pretty much. I woke up in the dining room and went to the front door because I heard banging, Jimmy explained. That's when I found, uh, Jamal trying to break down the door. Then, we came to the living room trying to break the sliding door. And one by one I guess everyone else heard us and slowly converged here.

Greg tilted his head down slightly and adjusted his glasses. He pointed out, I see. I remember going to the bathroom at my college and then nothing. Next thing I remember, I woke up here.

Yeah, that's what happened to me. I was just in my dorm room on my phone, and now I'm here, Veronica said puzzled.

Was anyone else with you, Veronica? Greg probed, turning to Veronica.

No, my roommates were out at the time, Veronica said.

So it's possible that we were taken because we were all isolated, Greg informed as he adjusted his glasses.

No, I don't think so, Skylar revealed as she sat up shaking her head, I was with my friends at the mall. I remember we were shopping for shoes, and then my phone rang. I was about to pick up and…and then everything went black.

Yeah, I was also with my friends, then next thing I know ended up here, Jimmy said.

I see. Out of curiosity, Skylar, what percent was your phone on? Greg asked as he reached into his pocket.

Like ninety or something. Why? Skylar answered.

Greg pulled out his phone and showed everyone the black screen as he clicked the home button. He said, Because I know my phone was fully charged at my school. I checked my watch, and only about two hours went by, and now my phone is dead.

Yeah, my phone won't turn on either, Axel informed.

Nobody's works for whatever reason, Jamal complained.

Where do you guys think we are? Eric said as he pressed his finger against the glass of the sliding door.

Greg put away his phone and walked over to Eric. Greg assumed, Don't know. From the look of it, somewhere in the one of the high-end neighborhoods of Pennsylvania, probably.

Everyone quickly turned their head to Greg. Axel and Jimmy stood up immediately. Skylar rushed over to Eric and Greg in a panic. Skylar demanded getting Eric's and Greg's attention. Uh, hello. Excuse me, I'm from California, so there is no way we can be in Pennsylvania, okay?

Jamal walked over and added, Well, we ain't in California either because I'm from Maryland.

Greg turned to Eric. Eric said, Don't look at me. I'm from Delaware. I'm just as confused as you are.

Aaargh, Jamal shouted, this is ridiculous. I don't got time for this shit. I got things to do.

    Like what? Axel challenged.

None of your damn business, Jamal said.

    Whatever, asshole, Axel muttered.

You want to repeat that? Jamal shouted, moving over to Axel.

Would you two calm down! Jimmy yelled, walking over to Axel and Jamal.

I said, ‘Whatever, asshole,' Axel repeated as he faced Jamal, so how about you drop it and get out of my face!

Or what, Mexican? Jamal growled through his grinding teeth.

Suddenly, the intensity in the room lowered and changed to fright when the laughter that sounded like a child was heard. Everyone turned and looked to the opposite side of the room where the laughing was coming from. To their surprise, they saw a person sitting on an empty TV stand. The person seemed very young and looked to be about five feet. His skin was a light tone like the color of caramel. He was wearing a blue hood that made it hard to see his whole head, but you can definitely see his sharp gold eyes and joyful smile. His hood was connected to a light-blue robe that was tied with a rope around his waist like a belt. He was wearing brown sandals that looked to be homemade. And finally he had a brown sash with a golden trim that rested on his shoulders. On his sash, there was a golden symbol. The symbol looked like a playing card. In the middle of the card, there was a stand, and on top of the stand, there was a box that looked to be a dice block. The person's face was very cheerful and full of energy. He continued to laugh until he had everyone's attention. He slowly calmed himself down. When he did, he looked back at them and gave everyone a big smile with his tongue sticking through his teeth, letting it rest to the side of his mouth.

Greetings, pawns. My name is Vokai. Youngest son of Diero and Algia. Brother of Allgomac and Bograv. I am known as the god of games, Vokai announced cheerfully and confidently, and we have a lot to discuss.

After being transported to an empty school, Blake listened to Allgomac's introduction. He looked at him annoyed and unconvinced. Remembering that he was busy with other things, he decided to leave.

Okay, uh, Allgomac, was it? I'm done. Blake chuckled as he stood up from one of the classroom desks. This is so stupid.

Oh, is that right? Allgomac said with a slight grin. Allgomac stood at a decent height, about five feet eleven inches. He had an athletic body type with a chiseled face. Allgomac had a medium skin tone that was a bit darker than his brother's, Vokai. He was wearing an open red vest with a gold trim. Allgomac's arms were visible, but he wore silver guards on his wrists. His pants were not normal, casual pants, but more protective looking, like they were made of Kevlar. Finally, he was wearing boots and a golden belt that had a symbol on the buckle that looked to be the same as Vokai's. Allgomac sat leisurely on a bookshelf at the back of the classroom as he watched Blake walk away.

Yeah, God of Games, Blake said as he walked toward the classroom exit, give me a break. Look, if you are the one that locked us all in here, you had your fun, but time to let me out before I get pissed.

Maybe we should hear him out, Dennis suggested, still sitting at a student's desk. Dennis was pretty tall and athletic looking like Blake. He was Caucasian with short black hair. He continued, It would be nice to know how we ended up in this empty school.

C'mon, dude. Really? Hear him out? Blake argued, Please. You guys can deal with crazy if you want, but I'm outta here.

Blake put his hands in his pockets and continued out the room. Allgomac's gold shining eyes followed Blake as he got closer and closer to the exit. Allgomac gave a slight smile and asked, Are you sure you want to leave before hearing me out, Blake K. Himont?

Blake stopped dead in his tracks. Everyone turned to each other in confusion. Blake's eyes filled with fury. He turned back and looked up toward Allgomac. Blake growled, I don't remember telling anyone here my last name.

Yeah, how did you know that? Jason probed while looking at Allgomac. Jason was of average height with a cheery and positive-looking face. He was wearing a shirt with the video game character, Mario, right in the center. Allgomac's face looked as if it was about to burst with laughter. He kept himself composed as he smiled. I know all your names, Jason Road. After all, I am the one who summoned you all here. I said it to help them understand. But I'll have to remember to erase the memory of me reveal their last names to each other. Allgomac thought.

Why would you do that? Who are you? Victoria whimpered with a Hispanic accent, turning to Allgomac with teary eyes. Victoria had light skin tone with alluring green eyes and curly, light brown hair.

Like I stated before, my dear, Allgomac said lovingly as he jumped up to his feet on the shelf, I am the god of games. And I have a game to commence, and you all are the pieces.

Game? What the hell are you on about? Darrell barked. Darrell had dark skin and a fade haircut on the sides of his head with a small Mohawk running down the middle. Allgomac tilted his head to the side with a pouty look. He breathed heavily then smiled.

Ah, I suppose I should explain further so you have a better sense of the situation, Allgomac cheered. Allgomac jumped down to the classroom floor. He folded his arms and stood tall and firm.

I have lived for, I suppose in your world would be considered, generations. In this time, Bograv, my middle brother, Vokai, my youngest brother, and myself have played games upon games that all reached the same end: a draw, Allgomac explained passionately, so in order to change this outcome, we decided to take our game somewhere else on a much bigger scale. So my brothers and I will be playing a game, and like I stated, all of you are the pieces.

Blake rolled his eyes and huffed. Allgomac noticed and smiled. This is true. Right now, my brothers are explaining the exact same thing to their groups.

Sorry, but what kind of game do you mean? Pete interrupted. Pete was Caucasian and tall with light-brownish hair. He was wearing a distinctive sweatband around one of his wrists. Allgomac paused and gave a slight smirk. He turned to Pete and looked him in the eye.

I'm glad you asked, Allgomac sighed. Our favorite game—with a few changes, of course. The name of the game is Warterria! The objective: player with the last team left standing wins.

Everyone looked at each other confused and scared. Victoria looked horrified. Everyone who was sitting were now standing up shaken. Blake and Dennis looked at each other in disbelief. Another girl named Allison stared at Allgomac, but didn't really react to his explanation. She remained silent. She had pale skin and long hair that was dyed rose-red. She stood against the wall with her arms folded. A boy named Mark moved up toward everyone else. He was Chinese American, a bit short, and had a slender body type. Mark asked softly as his lips quivered, Left standing?

Aye, a three-way fight or battle royale if you prefer, Allgomac clarified. Blake inched over to Dennis. Dennis noticed this, but didn't really react. Blake leaned slightly toward Dennis and began to whisper.

I need your help, Blake whispered cautiously. Dennis's face looked surprised, but he didn't move his body.

    What? Dennis asked.

I don't know what he is on about, Blake explained, but I know there is eight of us and one of him. You know what I'm getting at, right?

A surprise attack? But what if he is serious? Dennis challenged. Blake looked at Dennis in shock.

‘What if he is ser—' Are you serious? Blake argued, trying hard not to raise his voice. You did hear him, right? A god of games? That's stupid. This guy is just crazy. I'm not going to stay here and deal with this shit.

Yeah, I guess you're right, Dennis confirmed. You think everyone will go along with this?

Blake scanned the room and whispered, We are the biggest guys here. If we jump him, then everyone else will join immediately. No doubt.

Dennis nodded. Blake and Dennis slowly moved in closer to Allgomac, and everyone else pretended to still be listening.

You all will be given sacred weapons to wield, Allgomac declared as Dennis and Blake moved in closer, and no two weapons will be the same.

Suddenly, Blake and Dennis charged at Allgomac. Each of them grabbed an arm and twisted them behind his back. Allgomac remained silent and didn't really put up a fight. They leaned in on him forcing his knees to hit the ground. A grin appeared on Blake's face stretching from ear to ear. Everyone else watched in shock and awe. Darrell smiled and said, Goddamn! Good shit.

Yeah, not so godlike now, are you, asshole, Blake mocked as he twisted Allgomac's arm more.

A light chuckle was heard. Then the chuckle got louder and turned into full-on laughter. Allgomac roared with laughter as he was restrained. Allgomac tried to talk, but couldn't through his laughter. Eventually, he started to calm down.

How amusing, Allgomac cheered, blinking his eyes to get rid of his joyful tears, I knew coming to this realm would be a good idea. You humans are full of much vigor than even I imagined.

Allgomac lifted his head and looked toward Blake. His eyes were filled with joy as he gave him a gentle smile. Allgomac continued, You two are lucky you didn't end up with my brother Vokai however.

Just then, Allgomac's eyes started to glow. Blake's and Dennis's hands started to reluctantly raise away from Allgomac. Blake and Dennis struggled to move their hands toward him, but their movements were out of their control. Then, the two started to ascend involuntarily off the ground. Everyone else started to move back stunned. Darrell fell back in shock. Victoria screamed holding herself in fear. Mark moved his lips to say the words What the—, but the words didn't come out. Allgomac leisurely stood back up as he stretched his arms and moved his neck after being in an uncomfortable position. Allgomac brushed himself off then slowly put his hand out in front of him. Blake and Dennis, now floating above everyone still struggling to regain movement, started to float directly in front of Allgomac.

The reason why, well, let's just say he wouldn't let an act of defiance go…unpunished, Allgomac informed deadpan.

Allgomac opened his hand wide showing his palm. Suddenly, Blake and Dennis flew back with great force. They yelled as they slammed into the classroom wall. The two groaned in pain as they fell to the floor. Everyone else remained silent not knowing what to say. A cold sweat rolled down everyone's faces as they tried to comprehend what just happened before them. Allgomac slightly tilted his head up and gave a cocky smile.

Lucky for you two, I'm much more forgiving, Allgomac said happily. Now what was I saying before? Oh, weapons, of course.

Allgomac raised his hand again and smiled. Now everyone relax. This will sting only slightly.

I'm sorry. What? What the hell did he say? Darrell asked, frantically turning to each person.

One by one, everyone started to see a cloak of blinding light that slowly covered their bodies. Everyone started to scream and yell in horror. Mark started trying to brush the light off him repeatedly. Darrell tried blow it away, to no avail. Blake lifted his aching head and saw what was happening. He saw people getting covered in light and slowly lifting into the air. He blinked a couple of times to get a better view, but the light prevented him from doing so. Blake looked at his hand and saw it was getting covered by light as well. Blake's head fell to the floor again.

Somewhere else in the US, Xavier was in an empty church facing the same situation with another set of random strangers. Xavier fell to the dusty floor of the church. He heard about five or six other thuds hit the floor. Xavier shook his head as he struggled to get up. When he looked around, he saw others trying to get up. Some sat down in the pews while others used the reddish-brown granite pillars to pick themselves up. Xavier's eyes widened when he saw green arrows with the name of each person above it over seven other people's heads. He looked above his own head, but didn't see one. He blinked a couple of times in disbelief, then the arrows eventually faded away. He, looking confused, turned to the god of games, Bograv, and saw him still sitting on the bottom steps of the podium in front of the church looking around at everyone.

What did you do to us? Jade demanded. Jade was dark-skinned with short, straight black hair. She wasn't that tall, but her voice was very attention-grabbing.

Bograv was very tall. He had dark skin and a slender build. He also had dreads that went down slightly below his shoulders. He had them in a ponytail held together by a golden clasp. He wore an orange robe with a gray shirt underneath. His robe had the same golden symbol that Vokai and Allgomac also had on their clothing. His robe was held closed by a light-gray sash tied around his waist. His pants underneath his robe was dark blue, and finally he had on silver boots. He had a very tired-looking face, but at the same time, he looked kindhearted and caring. Something about his eyes had a feeling of compassion. Bograv smiled slightly and answered, I informed you that you each would be given a sacred weapon. Thus, that is what I have done.

This is ridiculous, Miguel barked, "Bograv? God of games? You muy loco."

Miguel was of average height and weight with light facial hair. He was Mexican American and wore a cross around his neck.

I knew humans were stubborn, but not this stubborn. Bograv sighed.

Well, for one, we never heard of a god named Bograv, Adam added. Adam was Caucasian with an easygoing-looking face. He was wearing a short-sleeve shirt, so his wolf tattoo on his left arm was very visible.

Bograv chuckled. Fair enough, Bograv replied as he leaned to the side and pointed behind him, but still looking forward. This is the god most of you humans believe in, correct?

Bograv pointed upward toward the wall in front of the church. On the wall there was a religious painting. Hanging in front of the painted wall, there was a shiny Jesus mounted on a wooden cross.

I believe this religion on your planet is called Christianity, correct? Bograv smiled. Well, my brothers and I agreed not to directly alter your human beliefs, so I guess I won't say any more about the topic.

What the hell are you— Miguel growled.

This can't seriously be happening. Sacred weapons? Last team standing? Nina mumbled with crossed arms while sitting in a pew, I am going crazy.

Nina had fair skin with sparkling green eyes. Her hair was shoulder-length, straight, and brunette. She also wore a red wristband. Shaun came over toward Nina and lightly put his hand on her shoulder. She looked up at Shaun, who was gently smiling back at her. Shaun was Japanese American and had glasses. He had a studious and patient look to him.

It's okay, Nina, Shaun said calmly as he continued to walk toward Bograv. Whoever you are, I suggest you walk away before we call the police, Bograv.

Try it. I don't mind, Bograv assisted politely.

Yeah, already did. It won't turn on for whatever reason, Roman said, showing Shaun his phone. Roman sat in the pew with his feet on top of the pew in front of him and his arms behind his head. Roman was dark-skinned and wore a red hoodie with the hood down.

Adam and Miguel tried to ask another question, but Bograv cut them off and said, You know, there are still the rules we must go over, so how about we save the questions for after?

Screw it, Miguel yelled as he stormed away, I'm gone.

You know, this is probably just a messed-up prank. But we should at least hear him out, Roman said calmly. Miguel stopped and looked at Roman. Meanwhile, Xavier glanced at a girl named Jess tied to a chair. The girl had black hair with blue streaks tied back in a ponytail. On top of her head, she wore a gray knit hat. Her face tightened up and filled with stress as she looked around. Once unconscious, now awake, she struggled to free herself. Xavier leisurely walked over to her and tightened the rope around her hands. She looked up at Xavier in disgust.

Yeah, of course, Miguel mocked, you would like that, because after all, you could be working with him for all we know.

Roman gave a smirk that is hardly visible and said, Same goes for you.

Whatever, Miguel said as he rolled his eyes. Talk, Bograv.

My, my. You're quick to temper. Bograv smiled. Each of you has a different weapon I bestowed upon you. I have informed you individually of which you possess.

And where exactly are these weapons? Miguel mocked.

You'll learn to summon. Bograv chuckled. Don't worry.

Bograv continued to look around and saw Jess tied to a chair struggling to break free. He pointed sluggishly to her and asked, What happened to her?

Adam looked at her and back at Bograv. Walking around the church, I found her. When we woke her up, Adam explained as he rolled up his sleeves showing scratches in his arm, she freaked out and attacked. Luckily, she hit her head and was unconscious again, so we tied her down. We don't even know who she is.

Jess, my name is Jess. Jess sighed, breathing very heavily.

Another one with a lot of energy. Bograv smiled. I like it. Well, Jess, listen up because now I'm about to explain the rules.

Rules for what? What are you talking about? Jess interrupted.

For the game, of course, Bograv responded.

Bograv slowly stood up. He walked up the two steps toward the podium. In front of the crucifix and behind the podium, Bograv stood tall and firm. He gave the strangers in front of him a gentle smile.

Understand and listen carefully, don't want to have to repeat this, Bograv declared as he saw Miguel roll his eyes. "Rule one: The play area is only this land, leaving will be punishable. But fret not, you will know where the boundaries lie.

Rule two: The gods are not allowed to interfere directly, Bograv said. We can advise, answer questions, and help to an extent.

What does that mean? Adam probed.

Bograv raised up his palm toward Adam and smiled. Now, now, questions at the end.

Now, rule three, Bograv continued, when you summon your sacred weapon, people not involved will have no sight of you nor notice your summoning. Rule four: when the team's numbers decrease, the rest of the team's strength increases.

Miguel huffed obnoxiously loud. Bograv put a finger on his lips and breathed out at Miguel, telling him to stay quiet.

Don't worry. Bograv smiled. There is just one left. Rule five: proclaiming you forfeit, give up, or just refuse to play results in—termination, let's say.

Back at the bare mansion, Vokai had also just finished telling the rules to his group of strangers. They looked at each other in confusion and distress. Vokai sat on the TV stand continuing to smile.

Any questions? Vokai probed with a smile.

    Uh…termination, Axel questioned, what?

You know, end. Finished. Done, Vokai cheered, or simply death, if you prefer that.

Vokai took his hand and slid it across the front of his neck making a gag sound. Vokai then started to chuckle.

Okay, I'm done with this shit, Jamal blurted out. Vokai, after being cut off, scowled at Jamal as
