About this ebook

Trinity Academy, one of the best career schools in the United Planets, is set up with three programs of training-it is one of a kind. But some say the school has forgotten its past and the foundation it was built on. Now, for the second year, a student from each of the three founding families will be attending the academy. However, one student may not be allowed to stay. There is still something or someone drawing these students together to save the academy. Patricia is looking forward to summer until her father says she can't return to the Trinity Academy for the next school year. To save her chance of returning, Patricia agrees to go back to the academy for the whole summer, along with her friends Aurora and Andrew. With all the changes made necessary for the protection and upgrades to the academy, Patricia and her friends, including two other tri-groups, will have their work cut out for them during the summer. Even with Headmaster Hendricks gone, the friends still run into danger with people now trying to kidnap them, looking for information to take control of the academy. They all will need their Bible lessons and the help of their AI, David, more than ever if they are going to figure out what to do to save themselves and the academy.

    Patricia - Danielle Grubb

    Chapter 1

Patricia looked out over the Trinity Academy grounds. From outside, from the very top of the Trinity Library, she could almost see the whole campus. No one was out and about at the moment, but it was morning. The academy seemed quiet compared to when school was in session. Patricia was waiting for Aurora to send the good to go on her smartphone, or SP, as they called it. Then Patricia would put the program her mother gave her into the main network connection for the whole planet. This would then allow the Labyrinth program, or David, as they called him, access to all of the information of the Library and other networks on Trinity planet so that David could keep an eye on things.

Patricia thought back to a week ago. This summer never even seemed to have started for Patricia and her two friends. They’d had a lot planned, but everything seemed to go wrong when they got to Patricia’s house. At first, her father was upset about all that had happened during the school year. Then, he was mad about Patricia already being in a Trinity group with Aurora as her protector and Andrew as her knight. Patricia was glad for the way the headmaster had set their group up. It was secure so that nothing could split them up until graduation. Patricia’s father did try to break them up, even threatening not to let Patricia go back to the academy. Thankfully, her mother talking to her dad, and the fact that pulling her out of school would be a major fine convinced him to not keep her home for the next school year. But all the turmoil cut their whole summer short. Patricia’s father said that she would have to go back and stay there all summer or not go back at all. This, in Patricia’s opinion, was to get her to not want to go back. Patricia, however, agreed to her father’s terms, and with her friends, went back to the academy. It was not all bad though. Aurora had told Patricia that she did not want to go to her home when no one would be there. Her father was still missing, her mother was somewhere looking for him, and her Grandpa Tim would be at the academy. Also, with all that had happened in the past school year, Aurora had lost all contact with the friends she had at home. Andrew was fine with going back early seeing that Trinity Planet was his home anyway. Also, most of his family would be there for the summer.

Patricia’s SP buzzed with a quiet beep, telling her that there was a message for her. Taking it out of her pocket, she looked at the SP and read, All done on this end. See all in 10 at D room. Aurora.

Patricia laughed to herself. It would take her at least fifteen minutes to get the program downloaded. Then she noticed that she was not the only one to get the message—Andrew, Kyle, and Mr. Felther received it as well. Patricia got to work typing the codes in that would allow her to download the program.

There, now all I have to do is wait, said Patricia, looking at the little screen as it showed a bar filling in very slowly. As she had thought, it took fifteen minutes to download and then she was on her way to the classroom they called the D room. This classroom is where they had figured out that they could run David’s program instead of always having to go into the Labyrinth to view and use the program. They had all decided to label the room D for David.

I’m not sure I like our new bedroom, Jasmine, whined Patricia to her unipeg.

Patricia was on her own bed staring up at the ceiling. She and Aurora had spent most of the afternoon in their apartment getting settled in. Her new room was larger or, at least, looked bigger to her then the old room. She knew why they needed to move rooms. They were an official tri-group now, and all tri-groups stayed in the Faith Castle apartments, not the dorms. Their apartment was very nice, with a common room filled with couches, a kitchen, and three bedrooms. On one side of the common room was Andrew’s room, and on the other side were Aurora’s and her own rooms with a connecting door between their rooms. All three rooms included their own bathroom, so there was no need to share, not that Patricia minded sharing with Aurora. They had easily put a schedule together last year that worked fine.

It just feels too lonely in here. I feel cut off from Aurora, and yes, Jasmine, I know she’s just on the other side of the door. It just doesn’t allow for ‘Hey, are you awake. Let’s talk till the alarm goes off’ kind of thing, said Patricia.

Patricia rolled off her bed, took two steps, and lay on Jasmine’s back. Patricia had moved the bed from the middle of the room to the right side close to Jasmine’s stall in the room. The stall looked like a little alcove and was filled with fiber straw. With the bed moved to the right side of the room, that left a big open space on the left side of the room that Patricia did not know what to do with.

Hey, Patricia, are you in here? asked the voice of Aurora.

Yes, I’m over here on Jasmine’s back. Why? answered Patricia.

I need your help with my room, said Aurora.

Patricia heard the door close as she got up.

I guess I should see what Aurora has gotten herself into, said Patricia as she walked to the door that leads to Aurora’s room.

Don’t get lost or swallowed up by all of Aurora’s fabric was Jasmine’s reply.

Patricia knew that Aurora was working on making her own as well as some of the other protectors’ uniforms better fitting to a woman’s body, with the permission of the headmasters of course.

Patricia walked into Aurora’s room. It was so cramped with two tables and her bed and dresser; there was barely enough room to walk.

I need to figure out how to get my vanity back in my room before bedtime, and I really don’t want to put all the sewing stuff away again. I just got all the stuff out and organized, and now it’s almost time to go to bed, and I will have to put it all away without working on anything, huffed Aurora as she sat on her bed. Patricia pondered the problem. Aurora really needed a room large enough to fit all this in, but the only one that would work was the royal room, and that was where Patricia had to be.

Yep, the Aurora tornado, said Andrew, walking into the room.

The girls just looked at him like, What do you want?

Andrew. That’s not the way you talk to your friend, stated Zeffer.

Zeff, it’s a joke, okay. Besides, Aurora looks like she needs to laugh, said Andrew.

It is dinnertime! yelled Opal as she flew into the room and landed on Aurora. And I’m hungry. So we need to go now.

Okay, Opal, we can go. I will just have to put all this away when we come back, sighed Aurora.

All of them walked out of their room and headed to the headmaster hall. They had been told when they first arrived back that they would be eating in the headmaster’s hall for the summer.

Hey, how’s the sewing going? asked Cailin as she walked up to the table they were at.

Not well. I’ve just not had the time to do much, said Aurora.

Patricia felt that it was part her fault. Aurora was supposed to have been able to sew at her house, but they had just gotten the fabric purchased when her father sent them back here to the academy. Now, there didn’t seem to be enough room for her to sew in her bedroom at the apartment.

Oh, is there anything I can do to help? asked Cailin.

Not unless you can change the rules and let Aurora have my room so she would have enough space to keep all her sewing supplies and fabric out, said Patricia.

No, a royal must stay in the royal’s room. It has special security measures just for that, said Kyle as he sat down next to Andrew and straight across from Aurora.

    I agree, said Aurora quietly.

You know my room is huge, and I know we royals have to stay in there, said Casey, but I was thinking that Cailin could just move her bed into my room, then we would have her room to do other things with. You could do the same.

Do you think they would let us? asked Patricia.

Let you do what? asked Mr. Felther, walking up to them with a plate of food but looking like he was going somewhere else to eat.

Have the girl protectors stay in the same room as the royals, said KC.

Hmmm, well, I have no objections to that. Seeing that I’m in charge of all of you right now, you have my permission to go ahead and do it. Just know that when school starts, they may have you change it back. But I doubt it. They probably won’t even know that you’ve moved things around, stated Mr. Felther. Then he took a huge bite of his hamburger and walked off to the door.

Patricia liked Mr. Felther because he was the caretaker of the creatures for the academy. Also, he was one of the few adults Patricia trusted. Even though he seemed to ramble on all the time, what he said was the truth.

Okay, that’s what we will do. With Aurora’s bed and vanity in my room, she can leave all the sewing things out in her room, said Patricia. She liked more the idea of having Aurora in the same room she was in than the needed space, and that was okay.

    *****

Back in the apartment, Patricia was watching as Aurora and Andrew were trying to get the bed through the door.

Are you sure I can’t help you two? asked Patricia.

No, we are fine, said Andrew through gritted teeth.

Patricia was not sure if it was that they did not want her to do anything because she was a royal or if it was that all three would not work in such a small doorway. Finally, they got the base of the bed into the room, and both of them went to get the mattress. Patricia decided that this would be a good time to help. She easily moved the bed to where she wanted it to be—close to the left side wall, with the head of the bed at one of the windows. Patricia knew Aurora liked to be awakened by the sunrise.

Hey, where did the bed go? asked Andrew as he carried the top part of the mattress.

    Right behind you, said Patricia.

I see it. Is that where you want me? asked Aurora as she pushed Andrew with the mattress in the right direction.

    Yep, said Patricia.

Patricia lay on her bed while they moved in Aurora’s dresser and vanity. Then they all sat in the common room, reading the Bible till lights out. Back on her bed, Patricia was glad for the soft snoring of Aurora. It just made her feel safe in the room. She had not grown up with close friends because her father would send her off to a different school every few months or just have her tutored as they traveled to other worlds for all kinds of things to do with the company. Now that Patricia had Aurora and Andrew for friends, she could not imagine her life without them. There was no way she would let her father break them up. Patricia closed her eyes and said a quick prayer asking God to keep her friends safe and to keep them all together as she fell asleep.

    Chapter 2

Patricia walked into the D room with a yawn. It was too early for a summer morning, but Mr. Felther said he had something important to share with them.

Not wanting to be out of bed too, huh? asked KC, then yawning himself.

It’s fine. Just not used to our new room yet, answered Patricia.

Oh, come on. It’s a beautiful day, the sun is up, and we get to learn some kind of new thing, said Andrew as he skipped around the room.

Well, now we know who the morning person is of your group, commented Kyle.

Yes, and it’s very annoying, stated Opal’s voice.

Patricia looked but did not see Opal anywhere in the room and then she noticed Aurora was not in the room with them.

Hey, where did Aurora go? asked Patricia, knowing they had both left their room together and was pretty sure they had both entered the Library together, but she did feel as if she was sleepwalking.

She’s just outside the door, said Opal.

Patricia walked back to the door and then saw that Aurora was indeed outside the door, pacing back and forth, talking to herself.

Are you going to tell her to come in and be social with us, or will I have to? asked Kyle with a smile.

No, no, I will go and see what’s up, Patricia answered quickly and then she went out the door.

I can do this. He’s a good guy or, at least, a something guy. I can go in and show him how to act and be nice. What am I saying. He was so mean. Why is he here? mumbled Aurora as she continued to pace. Patricia watched Aurora continue to mumble to herself, smiling that Aurora had not noticed her yet. Patricia knew that Aurora was trying to figure out how she felt about Kyle. Both Patricia and Andrew had accepted all of the Ks and Cs, as they called them now, and also the apologies they had made before the summer. Aurora said she had accepted the apologies also, and for the most part, Patricia would say that she had, if it were not for Kyle. Aurora just seemed to act different around him.

Patricia? Aurora? Does the door not open? called the voice of Casey.

No, but I could see the boys locking us out, answered Patricia.

I’m just trying to get the blood flowing and my head awake, said Aurora.

Oh, is that it? asked Cailin with a knowing look at her.

Patricia watched as Cailin gave Aurora a hug and then whispered something in her ear.

Protectors, what are we to do with them? said Casey, walking up to Patricia.

We could let the knight deal with them. But seeing as you don’t have one, and mine is no help in that arena, I think we will just have to smile at them, said Patricia, and with that, they all walked into the room.

Hey, we have the girls. Now the fun will start, said Andrew with a bow.

Only if you stay on your feet Andrew, teased Aurora.

Just as Aurora finished, Andrew fell to the ground with a smile that said we will see.

Hello, all. I do hope you got some rest, for today is going to be full day I’m afraid, said Mr. Felther as he appeared in the doorway. But first, I would like to introduce you to Cody. As Mr. Felther stepped out of the way, they saw Kevin waving at someone.

Well, that’s not Cody, but he is coming, said Mr. Felther. So I do hope you all will be nice to Cody. He’s been through a lot and needs some good friends

Kevin walked in with someone who looked like his twin. Both had the same spiked brown hair, the same green eyes, and if it weren’t for the fact that Cody had dimples, Patricia would say that Cody was a clone.

Kevin, you didn’t tell us you had a twin, stated KC.

Yes, you would think with us being part of a twin set, you would have told us, added Kyle.

Well, if Cody was my twin, I would have told you, but he’s not, explained Kevin.

Yes, but we are cousins. Our dads are bothers, not twins. My dad is a year older, and our moms are sisters, stated Cody.

Okay, we’ll let you kind of off the hook, but I do want an explanation of why I have not heard a word about your cousin before, said Kyle with a smirk.

That will have to happen later. For now, just know that Cody will be a part of your group, and he does know about the Bible, said Mr. Felther.

Patricia watched as Kevin and Cody found seats next to Kyle. She also noticed that Aurora sat as far from Kyle as possible.

David then appeared in the middle of the group. Because David was the AI of the Labyrinth and their teacher of all things Bible or God related, Patricia was interested in what David thought about Cody.

Good morning all, my name is David, and I will be your…recalculating…searching for student info…Okay, I think I’m back to the right setting, said David.

Patricia became concerned. What if her mom’s program to securely connect David to the networks reset him, and he would not know them or what they had gone through?

David, are all your files intact? asked Patricia.

    No, Yes, No, Yes—

David just disappeared. Patricia jumped up and went to the program port in the front of the room where there was a desk. Beginning to type, Patricia noticed that some of the files were corrupted or just not complete. She quickly opened one of the files to see what it was. Patricia read the file, and it was for Aurora; it was her progress in the program. Patricia then clicked on another file and read that it was her progress report, noting that all the other files had almost the same name except for the last number. Patricia put some codes in, but it did not help. The corrupted files were keeping the program from completely resetting, and without resetting, the program would not startup at all. Some more typing, and Patricia figured out that there was another file with memory of the last year—not an official report, but David would know who they were and what had happened. So she decided to delete the corrupted file holding their progress reports.

I think I fixed it, said Patricia as she stepped back.

David appeared again, but this time, he just stood there.

David, are you working? asked Aurora.

There is a new person in the room. Is he safe to talk to? asked David, turning to face Cody.

Hello, sir. My name is Cody Farnworth. I AM has sent me, for I am His child, said Cody.

It is good to meet you, Cody Farnworth. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you, answered David. Then he moved to the front of the room.

Shall we get started for the day? asked David. Patricia wondered what made David okay with Cody. Mr. Felther walked over to stand next to David.

First, we need to establish who Cody is and how he will be involved with all of you this year, said Mr. Felther. As you have heard, Cody is Kevin’s cousin. You see, he was supposed to have come to Trinity Academy last year. However, just before school started, Cody witnessed the kidnapping of a protector that was a close friend to his father. With what he saw, the knights thought it best to put him in protective custody at the knights’ capital building.

Patricia listened as Mr. Felther explained a little more of how the knights had recorded everything Cody saw the night of the kidnapping, and how he was able to help them figure out some of the clues to find out who was behind all of it.

Wow, it sounds like your year was just as crazy as ours here, said Andrew.

Yes, but I am thankful to the knights, as they made sure I was taught everything that a first-year knight would have been taught here so I can come into the academy as a second year student, said Cody.

You’re coming in as a knight, right? asked Casey.

    Yes, I am, answered Cody.

And David seems to trust you, said Cailin. Why is that, David?

Patricia wanted to know the answer too but was glad she did not have to ask.

Cody greeted me in the manner of a follower of Christ, as one of His disciples. It was in a somewhat coded way, but that greeting is in my databanks, explained David.

That made sense to Patricia. With the Bible basically outlawed, and everything so monitored, you really did not want to come out and say or ask anyone if they were a disciple of Christ as David put it.

And I assume your name starts with C right? asked Casey.

Yes, Kevin told me about your mother’s liking of names that start with the same letter. If you will accept me, dear Princess Casey, I would be grateful to be your knight, said Cody.

Kevin, is he good? Do you trust him? asked KC.

With my life, my prince, said Kevin.

Then it’s set. Cody will be my knight, said Casey.

Good, I was hoping you would say that. It does make things move smoothly, said Mr. Felther. Now David, how would you like to catch him up with the rest of the students?

Patricia knew the answer would be that there was no need. She had to delete all the progress they made in the program.

I will have everyone start at the beginning, with classes all summer to go over what they think they know. The trials will start happening the right way, stated David.

I like that it will get everyone on the same page and give them something to do with their summer days, said Mr. Felther.

Patricia watched as everyone shook their heads in agreement. They all seemed glad at how David had just stated what was going to happen and not telling them that the files were deleted.

Okay. Now that we know you will have a Bible class every day, let’s talk about schedules, said Mr. Felther. "I would like to teach all of you more about your creatures and the special things they each can do. So with your agreement, that will be another class you will have each day, and I think that is plenty for the summer. The rest of the time, you can have for free time and do fun things.

Can we do a class in the morning, then lunch, and the next class right after lunch, that way we can sleep in? asked Casey.

I agree with my sister. Summers are for late mornings, stated KC.

    I third that, said Opal.

Patricia smiled. She knew how Opal loved to sleep, mostly on her friends’ shoulders, so even if they had an early morning, Opal would still sleep. As for Jasmine, she loved morning and afternoon naps.

I have no problem with that, said Mr. Felther. "We will all meet in the barn at 10 a.m. to do some creature training. You can have them at 1 p.m. David
