Developing A New Generation of Real Estate Entrepreneurs
Herbert J. Strather the man with the knowledge and vision of Urban Real Estate has done it again, in this comprehensive guide to the most opportunistic real estate market in the country. Which Way is Detroit
could only be written by a dedicated born and raised Detroiter who has taken on the responsibility to give back to his community by educating and developing the next generation of real estate entrepreneurs. Herbert J. Strather is that person.
Strather, started at the early age of eighteen when he landed his first real estate agent job with the successful Detroit Bowers Realty Company. Within one year’s time, he became the top sales agent at Bowers and regionally. In 1974, after learning real estate appraisals and income property brokerage, he formed Strather & Associates, Inc. He began to make his mark in the real estate world by arranging complex multi-dwelling unit transactions around the city.
Over the years—Strather has teamed up with a multitude of influential partners. One such partner was former University of Michigan Regent, Nellie Varner. Together they formed Strather & Varner, which closed more than $250 million in real estate transactions from 1977-1990.
Since the 90’s, Strather & Associates, Inc. has been responsible for more than $2 billion in real estate transactions throughout the Detroit Metropolitan area. In 2004 "Woodbridge Estates", a 47-acre residential community, consisting of single-family townhouses and condominiums, opened to the public.
A joint venture housing development, funded by Strather Trust and the Slavik Co. of Farmington Hills, a sparkling example of Strather’s determination and pride. The development has won numerous recognitions and reflects his dedication to Detroit. In 2014, Strather and partners received the 2014 Detroit Community Development Award for Excellence in Real Estate Development.
In 2019 Strather is undertaking the re-development of one of Detroit’s busiest corners, Grand
