The missing android
The Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) obtained approval from the White House for funding through the Brain Initiative Program. The funds were used to experiment with the theory that an induced pluripotent stem cell, used to grow brain tissue, would receive information from the environment and real-life human interaction via connection to a cell phone installed in an android. The IP stem cell would react to light, sound, and images that it sees and hears through the phone, generating neurons that are processed by their synaptic potential as either excitatory or inhibitory. A synaptic integration processor would use energy from a lithium ion battery to make the android react according to the situation in real time. Just as a human might. Years of development allowed for the addition of other programs that made these androids the near perfect negotiator and fighting machine. Contracting went out for a human anatomy exact android, and DARPA developed two ranks of four male gender androids. They’re deployed throughout the United States and assigned to an FBI agent that secretly works with law enforcement agencies. Agents control the androids with their phone or leave the android in autonomous mode. Agent Kurt Blackstone controls Unit 4 from rank A. What happened one day, and the events that followed, is a compilation of unfortunate circumstances and an unexplained phenomenon. This is what happened.
Officer Dalton thought he was picking up a federal agent to assist on the 911 domestic violence call, so when the agent got in the marked black-and-white, the officer introduced himself, Hi. I’m Officer Dalton.
The android responded, Agent 4A, pleased to meet you.
Officer Dalton said, I’m from around here. You know, grew up, went to school here. I know the guy we’re going to talk to. He’s a real pain, a wise guy. Always had a temper.
I listened to the officer tell stories about the subject while running some diagnostics on Tom—that was the nickname I gave him. Unit 4A was just put back in service after a similar call last month in Kansas City. The suspect was taken into custody; Tom sustained some injuries, but no officers were hurt. I confirmed the android was functioning properly and went back to the camera app on my cell phone. I could see what Tom is looking at, and I heard the officer talking. They were in a rural area; it was 9:00 a.m. and the weather is clear. The marked unit pulled up in front of the residence. There was a vehicle in the driveway and one across the street. The 911 dispatcher informed the officer that the caller hung up. Tom and the officer exited the vehicle and attempted to make contact. The door was ajar and the officer approached cautiously. Dallas Police, anybody home?
They walked inside. I directed 4A in front of the officer through the living room toward the hallway.
Immediately to the right as Tom entered the hallway was the bathroom that was cleared and then down the hallway to a bedroom on the left. As Tom approached the bedroom door, a large object blurred his vision, and he went out of service.
Five minutes later…
Now I was hauling ass to the scene. I fell in behind the sheriff and ambulance already on their way. Finding a parking spot in
