Preface
Since the dawn of civilization, almost every society has had an annual observance to celebrate the autumn harvest, where the people come together to feast and join in festivities in a time of plenty. In the United States, there is Thanksgiving. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621, in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The early Plymouth colonists and the native Wampanoag came together to share a meal and entertainment. President George Washington announced a onetime first Thanksgiving holiday to be celebrated on Thursday, November 26, 1789.
In 1863, during Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed that a national day of Thanksgiving be celebrated every year on the final Thursday of November. In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a bill that would put Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November, where it is celebrated today. Americans will gather for a day
