A Passion Remembered - David Clipper

    Part 1

    Chapter 1

    Basic Training

    Stockton, California, August 4, 1977

Eleven weeks after Loren W. Cerva graduated from high school with top honors, the very secretive young man awoke from a blissful sleep with a serious raging erection. He writhed in severe ecstasy as the extremely beautiful co-occupant of the luxurious bed fondled and kissed him with a hungry fervor. After her naked body straddled Loren’s naked prone body and sleepy face, the stunning young woman wrapped her red, petite, velvety, and eager mouth around Loren’s large throbbing manhood, and sucked very gently.

Loren fully awoke, as his lover’s hot juices began dripping inside his mouth, and he loved the way they always tasted. Matter-of-fact, he loved everything about this extremely superlative woman. She was a skilled and passionate lover, healthy and athletic, cerebral and fun loving, sexy and very sophisticated, strong, determined, authoritative, and a million other things. M-squared had been Loren’s entire world for many years, and he loved her with a burning passion, but it appeared that this would be the last day they would ever spend together.

Loren watched eagerly as M-squared slowly withdrew her wet mouth, turned around, fully inserted him on herself, then rhythmically began pumping her needy body to a very cherished dimension. She tightly wrapped Loren in her loving arms, then showered his face with hundreds of good-bye kisses. An overwhelmed Loren tired of trying to hold back, then ecstatically released his held back man fluids inside his quivering soon-to-be ex-girlfriend.

The sad and silent lovers remained locked together for many minutes before the young woman ordered, Loren, I’m famished. I will have our breakfast sent to the veranda after we clean up.

The beautiful couple sipped expensive coffee after the exceptional meal was devoured, and as was their custom, they spoke openly without any criticism or recrimination. M-squared asked, Loren, when do you want to leave for the airport?

Five o’clock will be fine, he confirmed.

She informed, I’m leaving in two weeks. Only write or call me at my new address. All your belongings are boxed, and my parents will ship them when you arrive at your first duty station, and I have left you many special mementos. My parents will also wire you your accounts, but I want to give you this cashier’s check for twenty-five thousand dollars, because I don’t want you to suffer for anything.

Loren very gratefully accepted the check, and said, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, and for taking such good care of me all these happy years.

With a look of pure disgust, M-squared said, I truly respect your dubious decision to join the air force, but I’m really appalled at the thought of someone so refined like you being forced to live with or associate with . . . the vilest human trash.

Loren reasoned, Now, now, beautiful one, you could lower your hackles. Thanks also for being my protector all these years, but even though I might be somewhat effeminate, I feel that I’m more than capable of standing up for myself, and unlike you, I could be friends with anybody as long as they respect me.

She rolled her eyes and pointed out, And unlike me . . . you could be a total fucking asshole if you don’t get your way. You better watch that ugly side of yourself.

Loren countered, The hypocrisy is thick in here today, be careful not to choke on it. I might not be able to revive you.

M-squared smirked in pure contempt, but changed the subject. Loren, tell me something about this stupid freight something or other job the air force was so hard up to give you?

Loren couldn’t elaborate, Warehouse work mostly, I suppose, and some paper pushing.

M-squared proclaimed, I think I would drop dead if I saw you being forced to work like a lowly mule, but you have an IQ close to two hundred. I just don’t understand why they would give someone brilliant like you a job normally reserved for guttersnipe!

Loren laughed, then jested, Maybe the Pentagon just wants to aggravate your royal highness, and humble her precious prince.

You’re not precious! You dilettante! You super ignoramus! she shouted with passion.

A sad Loren said, Thank you for loving me so much. I’m really going to miss you.

Ditto, she echoed. M-squared gently asked, Loren, what about your family? They will be torn when they find out that you’re missing?

Loren said in shame, I can’t face them right now. Maybe I will when I establish myself. I’m counting on you to keep my secret.

You can count on me, she solemnly promised.

M-squared stood up and went and sat in her lover’s lap. After they shared a passionate kiss, M-squared’s emerald eyes went ice cold, as she laid down the law for the final time. Loren Cerva, listen very closely . . . our special relationship will officially end the moment you enter that airplane, and it’s completely irrevocable. I will gladly keep my promise and write letters to you until the end of the year, but don’t expect anything else. Loren, not only do I want to go out on my own, but I want to make new friends, have a lot of fun, and date whomever I please. My only desire in life is to be successful and powerful like my father. Anyone or anything that gets in my way will be ruthlessly crushed, and I suggest that you adopt the same attitude.

You made yourself crystal clear, thank you, Loren replied.

M-squared smiled warmly now, and said, Then all our business is finally settled. Let’s go to my bed.

Loren Cerva sat still and numb in the section of the airplane exclusively reserved for air force recruits going to San Antonio, Texas. Loren was still surprisingly and severely reeling from his emotional parting from a crying M-squared. He wondered if he would ever see her again. As Loren was mourning his catastrophic loss, a very young-looking, diminutive Asian man took the seat next to him. Loren politely smiled, made a quick appraisal, then said in the primary Filipino language of Tagalog, I’m making a big assumption that you’re on the way to Lackland Air Force Base like me . . . because I could really use a friend.

The shy young man smiled back in pure delight, then said in his ancestral language, Your assumption is correct, and I could use a good friend too. By the way, my name is Eddie Tlaloc and I’m from Lodi.

Loren said, My name is Loren Cerva, and I’m from very North Stockton, we’re practically neighbors.

Eddie asked, Did you just graduate from high school?

Yes. After I graduate from basic training, I’m heading to logistics school in North Texas, what about you? Loren informed, then asked.

Then, Eddie answered, I’m going to the air force medical school in Northern Illinois to be an X-ray technician. Do you have any career plans?

Loren said, Absolutely none, but I like being a problem fixer, or a person who makes secret deals.

Eddie asked, Your Tagalog is flawless, who taught you?

Loren somewhat answered, Trust me, it’s very complicated, but I’m also absolutely fluent and literate in Spanish, Cantonese, Japanese, Hindi, German, Korean, French, and Italian. All were learned by pure default because of my odd upbringing.

Eddie said, I truly believe you. But maybe you will find a career while you’re in the air force.

    Maybe. Loren hoped.

In the air force recruit lounge at the San Antonio airport, a young male sergeant and a young female second lieutenant looked out from a one-way mirror. When the lieutenant saw the other object of her covert mission enter the lounge, she said to the sergeant, Both candidates are here. Implement plan number two, then wait three hours before you send them on to Lackland. I will be watching very closely.

Your two orders will be followed exactly, ma’am, replied the very intimidated sergeant.

The sergeant had his assistant gather all fifty recruits to the front of the lounge, then he loudly announced, Shut your mouths and keep them that way! Don’t ask any questions, just listen closely and you might make it. I’m going to tell you what you could expect, and how we’re going to help you graduate. Three hours from now, a bus will arrive and take you straight to your training barracks where your drill instructor will greet you. Know this . . . any drill instructor is authorized to mete out corporal punishment at any time, or for any reason. If this happens to you, endure it without any complaint. Falling down or crying won’t save you. It will only make it worse. Do everything you’re told to do. Absolutely never talk back or ask any dumb questions. You’re required to complete thirty training days. All weekends and any holidays will never count as a training day. While you’re at Lackland, you will attend basic military school, exercise every day, fill out administrative forms, learn how to march, and operate an assault rifle, and receive numerous inoculations. You must pass all physical tests and written exams in order to graduate. To that end, you will be set up with a training buddy. You and your buddy will bunk and do everything else together.

The sergeant glanced nervously at the window before he finished, Everyone will be paired together randomly. No exceptions! When I call your name, report to the front!

    Chapter 2

    The Lounge

The Air Force Recruit Lounge, 9:00 p.m.

Mike Adams had waited three boring hours before something interesting finally happened. A curious Mike watched in fascination as the oddest couple he had ever seen entered the recruit lounge with a pompous air surrounding them. No! The Asian man-child was just floating in the tall one’s regal breeze. Like Mike, the regal looking young man was casually dressed in jeans, tee shirt, and sneakers. He didn’t appear to show any apprehension. Instead, he appeared to be supremely confident, totally invulnerable, and maybe potentially dangerous. Mike knew he would have to spend time in the company of this mysterious looking young man, but he made a resolve to keep a long distance.

Mike Adams went back to brooding about his rocky relationship with his girlfriend Angela, but he soon became very enthralled by the sergeant’s detailed speech about his future training regimen, but became concerned upon learning he would have to partner with a total stranger. Things didn’t get any better when Mike eventually heard Adams! Cerva!

Mike was so stunned upon having to meet Loren that he could barely make eye contact when Loren warmly said, Greetings and salutations. I’m Loren Cerva.

Mike meekly replied, I’m Mike Adams.

Loren said, We should go and find someplace to sit.

Mike nodded assent, then magnetically followed Loren.

After Mike was introduced to Eddie Tlaloc, he asked Loren, Where are you from?

A town called Stockton. It’s in North Central California. What about you? asked Loren.

Mike proudly informed, Tulsa. It’s in the far northeast corner of Oklahoma.

Loren happily said, Oh, my god, S. E. Hinton is from Tulsa, also. She’s one of my favorite authors. Have you ever heard of her or read any of her books?

Mike informed, No and no. Except for school books, and car and motorcycle magazines, I’ve never read a single novel. But what are her books about?

Loren explained, All her books are about the politics and problems of poor teenagers in Tulsa.

Mike asked, I’m very well aware of those problems, but do you have a favorite book?

Loren briefly elaborated, Yes, it’s called Rumble Fish. It’s about a small-time punk named Rusty James who’s trying to resurrect his older brother’s street gang. I would love to visit Tulsa someday.

Mike asked, Have you ever traveled any place? Today was the first time I ever left Tulsa, and my first ever plane ride to boot.

Loren said, Texas is number seventeen on my list of states, and I have visited fourteen different countries so far.

Mike whistled and said, Believe me, you don’t want to go to Tulsa for any reason.

Loren changed the subject. Please tell me about your family.

Mike proudly informed the mysterious stranger, I’m very lucky enough to belong to a very nice and loving family. I have a great relationship with my father, my mother, my two older brothers, and my two older sisters. So, what about your family?

Loren simply stated, Ah . . . I get along with my parents and two sisters.

Mike asked, Did you leave a girlfriend behind?

Loren made very clear, No. We amicably ended our long relationship earlier today, but she promised to write to me until I graduate from technical school.

Mike informed, I’m going to technical school to learn how to be a freight traffic specialist, what about you?

A surprised Loren said, Me, too! How interesting. Maybe that’s why we were paired together.

Loren backtracked, Did you leave a sweetheart behind?

Mike said, Yes, but our relationship is up in the air.

Mike asked, Since we’re going to be stuck together for the next twenty plus weeks, what are some of your basic interests? Mine are fast cars and motorbikes, hot blondes who are easy and fun, and all sports, except golf and tennis.

Loren revealed his interests, I love to read books, as you know. I love to play board games, but chess is my specialty. I love the opera, the arts, men’s and women’s fashion, passionate women of all races, and all the sports.

Mike said, I guess talking about women and certain sports will suffice for now.

Both young men laughed and shook hands, but Loren’s eyes went cold and dangerous when he heard Mike say, You don’t seem to be worried about anything.

Mike Adams was quickly intimidated by a terror he never knew existed, but took heart when Loren fanatically replied, No, the air force should worry about me because I’m a loose cannon, and I’m way smarter than any of them. Just always remember this—we’re on our own, no one is going to help us, so it’s just a matter of surviving whatever tribulations lay in our way. Can I count on you to always have my back no matter what happens?

Mike Adams couldn’t resist Loren Cerva’s very charismatic eyes. He most solemnly vowed, You can count on me. I swear on my life!

When the new friends left for Lackland, the mysterious young lieutenant happily left the lounge in supreme satisfaction.

Their tedious weeks of training were productive but anticlimactic. But unbeknownst to the highly confident duo, their biggest test ever lay right ahead.

    Chapter 3

    Basic Training

    O’Hare Airport, Chicago, October 5, 1977

It was a grand day. She was finally free and a legal adult now. With intense excitement and enthusiasm, she boarded her flight to San Antonio. Once the young woman was happily settled in her window seat, she mused about the events of her recent hectic year. In January, Majella-Jane Wyatt successfully defended her United States Chess Federation Women’s Championship, but she abdicated her title the same day because she wouldn’t be available the following year. Majella had run track for years and was proud of her tone body, but a year of weightlifting had adorned her shapely body with necessary muscles on both her arms and legs because she would need them for push-ups and pull-ups. Besides maintaining her valedictorian status at her local public high school, a curious Majella utilized the public library to learn everything available about the air force, then peppered her recruiter with hundreds of questions concerning the two bases she would initially train at.

Majella was never suspicious of her heavy recruitment by the government, but she often wondered why the air force would place her in such an innocuous job. It didn’t matter, though. Majella’s only imperatives were—complete her four-year obligation and qualify for the educational benefits, make and save every dollar, reapply for any type of full ride scholarship, and absolutely avoid any pointless romantic relationship because she truly believed that she would never find any man worthy of her.

Before Majella left for Texas, she completely divested her life as a foster child, but she was just being pragmatic about it, not bitter. The last thing on Majella’s list was to visit her parents’ graves and say good-bye, but she honestly wondered if she would ever return, because only the future mattered now.

    Lincoln, Nebraska, That Same Day

She looked in the bathroom mirror for the hundredth time since she first awoke. Her long, beautiful auburn hair—her pride and joy—all missing! All that remained was a bare scalp that her two closest female cousins had sheared and shaved the previous night. Did she go too far? What would happen when she would have to face her entire family at breakfast? Geez, forget that! What if she ran into the man of her dreams and she still looked like Mr. Clean’s little sister? Would this mystery man want to dole out all the romantic love and affection she so desperately hungered for? As eager as she was to experience sex, she strongly resolved to give herself to this man only. She began to muse about what the situation would be like when she arrived in Texas, but she knew her time was very short when she smelled the coffee starting to brew. Hiding in the
