I love using this book to talk about shapes, and how a child could make new shapes out of the basic shapes they already have (circle, square, oval, etc.). The story has a fun premise, which is a great way of presenting the concept of shapes to children without making it feel like a lesson.

There are several different Mouse books written by this author, all of them teach basic skills to children. The books can be used seperately or together to teach basic concepts like colors and shapes. The text is simple so young readers and read the words as well as listen to the story read aloud. The pictures tell the story as well as the words, so the book is aimed at younger new-readers. These books are good for teaching basic reading skills and concepts. Personally I don't care for the graphics or the style, but the books can be used by teachers if they overlook this fact, or they are not bothered by the graphics.

Stoll's best in a while -- a clear and witty exploration of shapes and dealing with a feline menace.
