About this ebook

"Appealing, accessible, and accurate, this is another admirable creation." —Kirkus

Crack the code of the incredible egg in this beautifully illustrated nonfiction picture book by Caledcott Honor-winning team Steve Jenkins and Robin Page.

Hatching a plan for survival isn’t always easy in the wild. And how animals lay, protect, and even use each other's eggs as a food source help reveal the life cycle of the natural world.

Eggs come in all shapes and sizes. The ostrich’s is the largest, but some are so small, you need a microscope to spot them. Animals hide them and disguise them in smart and surprising ways, too. Some abandon their eggs, while others protect them fiercely and carry them wherever they go.

There are as many kinds of eggs as there are animals that depend on them, because in the animal kingdom, the fight for survival begins with the simple, but extraordinary, egg.

This was a non-fiction book with a long history about eggs. It goes through ever animal that lays eggs. It is a great book but it could be confusing with the way that the text is put. This book would be for an older group.

This book shows it's reader how eggs are so much more than they seem! It talks about how animals lay, protect, and even use eggs as a resource.

This book tells readers all about eggs in the animal kingdom: the diversity of egg layers, egg eaters, egg storage systems, and how animals exit eggs when hatching. The illustrations are both beautiful and accurate, providing scale drawings of various animals and life-size illustrations of many types of eggs, including those of extinct animals. The information is presented in a simple manner, and details about the scaling of illustrations is included among the nonfiction text. This book was jam-packed with cool facts and mind-bending information, and I see why it was an award winner!

All about eggs! Everything essentially started as an egg. But focused on what lays eggs, how, how many, where, size, what eats eggs. LOTS of information.
