Great people do things before they are ready.

    INTRODUCTION

Have you ever thought that you weren’t ready for something? Have you ever put off sharing something because you thought someone else was more qualified than you? I think we have all done this at least once or twice.

I love the story I heard from one of my friends about a canoe team in Hawaii. Every year this canoe team would canoe across the ocean to the island several miles away. This was a journey that almost every canoe team would do at that time of year, so they weren’t surprised when they got there and saw other canoe teams had already made it.

Most canoe teams were satisfied with doing the same route every year. But there was one man on the team that wanted more. He looked across the ocean and saw another island the team had never gone to. He knew only two other canoe teams had ever gone to that island.

This man pointed to the island and said to his team, Let’s paddle to that island. It will be a challenge, but we will be a better team once we have conquered that.

The other team members scoffed at him. No way. We are not going over there. It seems hard, and only two other teams have done it.

The other teams heard the man talking about the island and started making fun of him. They said he was crazy for thinking that his team could do it. They said he was foolish for even thinking about it.

The man’s team and most other teams waved the man and his dream off, but there were a couple of men that stood back. They listened intently and came to the man after everyone had left. We will go with you, they said.

After all the teams had made it back to the main island, this group of men found a boat they could use and got back into the boat to paddle to the distant island. When they paddled away, they heard taunts and jeers in the background, but that didn’t stop them.

Several hours later, the boat hit the shore of the new island. They had pushed and struggled to reach their goal. It was a challenge to row with men who had never been in a boat together. There were times on the journey when each man wanted to turn back, but the team’s support kept each one going. The man and his new team were happy to have taken on the challenge. One man on the team said, That didn’t feel so hard. Why don’t more people do this?

The man answered, Most teams are happy with ease. They never think that the risk will be worth the reward. As the team returned to the canoe, the men were satisfied with themselves. They knew they had put in the effort. They knew they had shown courage they had never known before. They knew they had conquered something that most people would never do.

I share this story with you because I see this often in network marketing. As people begin this journey, they have many people judging them. Most people are so afraid of the judgments of others that they won’t start a network marketing business. Others think the work will be too hard, so they stay in their 9-5 job, thinking that is the best way to do it.

But every so often, a person dares to look on the horizon and see something they want. They want more money, a better lifestyle, or experiences they have never had before. Those people are the courageous ones. They are the people that say to themselves, Why not me?

As a network marketing coach, author, and speaker, I can tell you that one of the biggest things that hold people back is the fear of judgment. We are so afraid of what other people will say or think that we hold ourselves back from showing up fully for ourselves and our network marketing business.

My background is in network marketing. I grew several successful businesses over decades in network marketing. I once had someone ask me how I could continue to be successful in network marketing as I grew with several companies. I told them the key was simple. I stayed focused on my own personal development.

The company is only part of the puzzle. The product and the people are other pieces. But the one thing that stays consistent and plays a major role in your success is you. YOU are the thing that you will bring with you wherever you go. If you don’t invest in yourself, you will always struggle with confidence and fear.

In my book, The Game of Conquering, I talk about how fear keeps people from living the life they want to create. It always amazes me when I see so many people with unique perspectives and stories hold themselves back from sharing and being a resource to others.

For example, you and I could watch the exact same documentary, and we would have different things to say about it. We would experience it differently based on our background, thoughts, and feelings. Oftentimes we hold ourselves back because we think, well, we sell the same thing, I have nothing different to offer. This is the wrong mindset to have! Your unique take and perspective make you interesting and can bring your expertise into a conversation.

One of my favorite things I get to do in my profession is host masterminds for people with network marketing businesses. It doesn’t matter what company they are involved in, my business is geared toward generic network marketing. So I have the privilege of hosting masterminds with people from all walks of life in all different companies. They all have one thing in common; They are investing in themselves and their own personal development. They want to learn how to improve themselves to help their own success and the success of others.

This is a very special book to me. Something that I have never done before, but going through this process, I think it may be something I do in the future—every author in this book invested in coming to a once-in-a-lifetime mastermind with me in Oceanside, California. Before the mastermind, they were tasked with writing their chapter. We had a group chat to talk about the process on Facebook, and I watched as the authors got vulnerable with each other, cheered one another on, and bonded over a Facebook chat. They saw our ultimate goal of having this book published, and it helped bond this group together like I have never seen before. It has been incredible to witness.

I am so excited for you to read what all the authors will share with you. As I mentioned before, this is a special group of people. They have seen struggle. They have been in some of the darkest places. They have had to stay dedicated to themselves and their businesses. They share the raw, honest truth about what it is like to build a network marketing business from the very beginning. Many of them struggled with the fear that I mentioned before. In the middle of the night I would get messages from one of the authors saying, I don’t think I can do this! Who am I to write about network marketing?

Here is what is amazing to me; Each of these chapters is valuable to anyone getting started in network marketing, or who has been in the industry for a couple of years. Every single author has shared insight and knowledge that only THEY can share. This has been one of the best projects I have done with anyone in my mastermind groups, and I am so excited for you to read this book.

You will see that a different author has written each chapter in this book. At the beginning of the chapter, you will find the author’s name, some of their achievements, and favorite quotes. I asked each author to write their chapter on a topic they felt would be most beneficial for people starting out in network marketing. I am delighted at what they chose to write about! You will also find sections throughout the book called Coach’s notes. These are my personal notes and insights that I have included in each chapter.

I encourage you to read the book with a notepad to take notes. In every chapter, you will find actionable steps that you can take to create more success in your own personal network marketing business. I also encourage you to look up all of these authors on social media and give them a shoutout! They would love to hear from you and your thoughts about their chapters.

Finally, I want to say thank you. It is an incredible honor to serve the network marketing space. I am truly humbled to be able to coach thousands of people in this industry. My masterminds and speaking gigs have taken me around the world several times, and it always astounds me with the amazing people I get to meet while doing something I love so much. Thank you for trusting me to be your network marketing coach. I can’t wait to see other ways you and I can work together.

    Success Through Service

Vital to my success has been the choice to be a servant leader. You can also make this choice to increase your business’s success. Being a servant leader means you are more others-focused than self-focused. You serve others by investing in all facets of their development – emotional, spiritual, business, relationship building, and financial acumen to name a few.

My hope for you after reading this chapter is you choose to become the pebble in the pond by embracing being a servant leader. You may never see or know the ripple effect of your actions, just like a pebble in the pond, but you take those positive actions with a spirit of service. Let’s evaluate several ways you can up your game as a servant leader.

    Be a Professional Encourager

Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

    – Proverbs 18:21 NKJV

Several years ago, a good friend, for whom I have deep respect, called me a Professional Encourager. I am always looking to uplift people I come in contact with daily. Look for opportunities throughout your day to use your words and smile to encourage people. If you see someone and like the color they’re wearing or the style of their hair, make a comment. Your kind words may be the best thing to happen to that person today. Be a blessing!

Coach’s Notes - Alice has major influence. She is a top leader but even if no one knew her title, she would have influence. She gets it. She is always taking care of others. She is following the golden rule of making everyone feel important. When you do this you gain trust and credibility with others which helps you with both your business and personal life.

I created a ritual many years ago to schedule an appointment for gratitude notes on my calendar every Wednesday at 8:30 AM. Often I will send a handwritten note thanking someone for being part of my life and how grateful I am for them. Sometimes I pop a quick voice text, video message or an email to tell a person they are special and important. It’s not always someone on my team or one of my customers. Most of the time it’s someone who has helped me in the past week. Maybe my insurance agent, one of my Bible Study friends, a neighbor who did me a favor…you get the idea. Scatter the gratitude around like you would confetti at a celebration. Interestingly enough, I believe this fills my cup even more than theirs. On several occasions, I’ve visited people and found the notes I mailed to them on the refrigerator months or even years after the note was originally sent. Little things can make a significant impact.

One year as a New Year’s gift, I created twenty packages with cards, pens, and stamps. I sent the packages to my friends, challenging them to spread gratitude during the year and encourage people with their words. The idea was met with exuberance, and many of those friends still send gratitude notes today. What actions will you take to start being more of a professional encourager? Schedule it. What is scheduled happens.

    Goal Setting

"May he grant your heart’s desires and

    make all your plans succeed."

    – Psalms 20:4 NLT

It has been proven repeatedly that people with specific written goals are higher achievers. Every month, you must write down your personal business and team goals. When considering the concept of success through service, it’s important to realize to reach your goals you have to help others reach their goals. For example, if you want to reach a new rank and you need a certain number of team members to reach a new rank to push you up, the way to achieve that goal is to help others. If three team members are required for a certain rank, choose four or five to discuss how you would like to mentor them to reach their goals.

Make sure you focus on helping them understand what achieving their goal will mean in their family’s life. Maybe reaching the goal offers resources for a vacation, a new instrument for one of their children, or a self-care day for their spouse. Maybe it will be about building their confidence in the long run. How will they feel when they reach their goal? Attaching emotion to a goal deepens the commitment to achieving the goal.

When working with team members to reach a new goal, making visual aids has always been helpful for me. I will have sheets of paper all over my wall with the goals of each individual. I will update them daily and share a picture with the team members. It’s very motivating to them to see I am in their corner and paying close attention to their progress.

Do you have a big goal? Do you have people on your team you want to help reach the next level? Now is the time to make a list
