The Artist's Eye - Jason Hendrickson
THE ARTIST’S EYE
Istand in the darkness. Liking it, for it closes a chapter to another day. But looking upwards and actually absorbing the night, I see more than a day has ended but a huge section of my life. I breathe deeply.
I have tried many times to escape my fate and live, only to find myself right to where I have started: back to the family, back to business.
At eye level the buildings loom stoically, dark and tall forming the backdrop of this memorable set, I retreat inside for the view jogs my mind a bit too much. Yet, even though I may have adverse feelings towards my family, I belong with them. More so I belong here in this place, in this land of paradise. I am first and foremost; in length, depth, and breath an artist. An artist who has undergone the sufferings that any human goes through in this life and survived it with such grace that only a kindred spirit can understand. I close the sliding doors behind me and a rush of wind enters through moving the blinds, I ease myself down until finally, I lay in a fetal position.
The light from the moon exposes me.
The sound made by the birds breaks the morning’s silence. I awaken, finding myself in the same position I was in last night. My body doesn’t ache, but I pour with perspiration. I look around and everything seems fresh as a new day dawns, a few feet away there’s a sofa so I slump myself down. Minutes pass and I get up and head towards the kitchen. I make breakfast, eat it leisurely and relax the rest of the day.
Night comes and I greet it by taking a shower. I walk out of the bathroom revived and refreshed.
