    Introduction

    Where the Crosses Grow

    You’ll see them high on hillsides,

    or sometimes lying low,

    always be on the lookout

    for where the crosses grow.

    They serve as important reminders

    of things we should and shouldn’t do;

    a compass for our journey,

    a guide to keep us true.

    Seek and you shall find

    the answers as you go.

    They mark the special path

    to where the crosses grow.

    Some may be forged in metal

    or carved from wood or stone;

    Placed near heart or hand

    to remember we’re not alone.

    When life gets tricky and you get tired,

    when you’ve lost your way or feel uninspired;

    Don’t lose faith, don’t fall apart—

    just close your eyes and open your heart…

    Chapter 1

    Will was like most ten-year-old boys. He had a nose for adventure and all things associated with the great outdoors. He preferred science to history and math over English, and he never met a book he didn’t like.

    Will thanked God every night for the blessings in his life. As for all the things he didn’t quite understand yet, well he thanked God for those things too. Take his older sister, Lindsay, for example. She used to be the best big sister in the world until she became a teenager. Ever since her thirteenth birthday, she rarely included him in anything and had become so unpredictable. Her moods went from secretive and grumpy by day to squealing and giggling by night. Will found this to be difficult to understand and downright confusing. She no longer had time for him, but seemed to have plenty of time for make-up, fashion, and boys. Will knew he had three years before he’d be a teenager too. As for now, he was ten, and that felt pretty darn great to him!

    Chapter 2

    On a warm August night, Will enjoyed a second helping of his mom’s mac and cheese. He was just about to head out for another backyard campout when his parents stopped him. Before he could even ask why, his mom explained that he would need
