How Long Is Forever - Sakari Lacross
Chapter 1
Caleb, a nineteen year old male, leaves off a city bus with his friend, Niomi, an eighteen year old girl. The bus takes off behind them, and the two are left standing at the entrance of a gated park with a piece of paper in Caleb’s hand.
Caleb is wearing a blue jean jacket and blue jeans, with a black hoodie underneath and black sneakers. Niomi is wearing casual clothes, a black short sleeved shirt and blue jeans that are torn at the knees.
Caleb: (Holds the paper up) According to the coordinates, this is the place. The school should be past this park and into the those woods(points ahead of them).
Niomi: Are you sure we should trust a hunter?
Caleb: (Keeps his focus on the paper) We don’t have much choice.
Niomi: Actually...(tone lowers) we do.
Caleb turns around and looks at Niomi. Niomi looks uneasy at this point.
Caleb: No, we don’t. (Exhales in slight frustration) Look, those people back there don’t care about us. They were going to sacrifice us. At least we can have a better life this way.
Niomi: How do you know that? How do you know that Caleb?
Caleb: (Voice jumps) Because I heard them talking Niomi! (Niomi looks scared. There is a moment of silence) I’m sorry. (Places his hands on her arms) Niomi, haven’t I taken care of us so far? (Niomi nods in agreement) So continue to trust me. We can make it far, just the two of us. Besides, I won’t let anything happen to either of us, okay?
Niomi: (Nods in agreement again) Ok.
Caleb turns back into the direction of the park, leading the way as Niomi follows him. Niomi grips a small cross necklace on her neck nearly the entire way there.
The two reach a barrier that they can see, appearing red around an empty space in the woods. The two stop in front of the barrier.
Caleb: Yep, this is definitely it. (Touches the barrier and his finger goes through it, with the barrier creating liquified waves in the process) The school is hidden behind this barrier, just like the hunter said.
Niomi: But it was supposed to be hidden, right? Invisible. That’s what the hunter said. Why can we see it?
Caleb: It probably has something to do with our heritage. What we are, probably makes all the difference. Our supernatural eye vision allows us to see things that others can’t catch an immediate glimpse at, or just can’t see because of magic. Like this barrier.
There is another moment of silence between the two, as they both just stare at the the barrier. Seconds pass before Caleb makes another statement.
Caleb: (Looks at Niomi) Well, see you on the other side.
Caleb takes a step towards the barrier. Niomi grabs his arm before he can walk through. Caleb looks back at her.
Niomi: What if it is a trap? How come we can’t just live in the city with the humans?
Caleb: Niomi, trusting this hunter is the only way. And besides, living amongst the humans could create unwanted attention. What if you were to accidentally transform again?
Niomi: But I won’t! I’ve...I’ve learned to control my emotions better.
Caleb: How do we know that? You’ve nearly isolated yourself away from people. We haven’t seen you around anyone besides the pack in years.
Niomi: But his kind has hunted our kind for centuries. Why the sudden change in heart? A school for the supernatural to live amongst humans, that doesn’t even make any sense. It sounds like one big feeding ground, or one big slaughter factory. Either side could be in danger.
Caleb: Well, trusting a hunter is the only option we have. (Niomi looks away. Caleb hugs her, keeping a hold on her while he speaks to her) We’ll be fine. I’ll tear through anything that comes after you. Understood?
Caleb releases Niomi.
Niomi: But, what about you?
Caleb: I’ll be fine. Trust me. I can handle whatever comes my way.
Niomi nods and watches Caleb walk through the barrier. She can’t see what’s on the other side.
Niomi hesitates before walking through the barrier after Caleb.
Chapter 2
Late Night. Human dorm.
Luna sits up in her bed, reading a book. A knock on the dorm room door interrupts her. She looks over at Dawn, who is in a deep sleep.
Luna gets up to answer the door, constantly looking back at Dawn as the periodical knocks continue until she reaches the door. Luna answers the door.
Standing on the other side of the door, is Caleb and Niomi. She knows nothing of them.
Luna: Yes?
Caleb: Hi, i’m sorry to disturb you. But me and my friend here, were sent to this academy by a hunter. He told us that this was the place for...supernatural beings.
Luna: Oh. Well, whoever sent you, they were right about that. (Glances at Niomi who looks concerned) But the office isn’t open now. (Caleb looks disappointed) But...if either of you
