THE AIRPORT
––––––––
Hurry up and get out Mia! I don't want you to miss your flight,
said my father impatiently as he parked in front of one of the terminal gates.
My dad drove me to the New York La Guardia Airport from our apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, close to Central Park. I had to fly to Dallas for the 2nd National Congress of Modern Medicine I'd registered for just a few weeks earlier.
I'd graduated from Columbia Med School, specializing in pediatrics. I was trying to get a job at the city hospital, but I knew it wouldn't be easy without my father's help. I had to expand my knowledge and add value to my degree, leading me to travel to Dallas.
Relax. I'm not going to miss it,
I assured my dad with a slight knee squeeze, he proceeded to get out of the car to unload my luggage from the trunk. I grabbed the bag from the backseat and looked around to ensure I wasn't leaving anything behind.
See you in a few days. Call me to let me know you got there, OK,
Dad asked, giving me a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
Robert Watts, my father, was still looking prime at the ripe age of forty-six. He was 6'1", his tan skin and brown hair turned heads. He was in excellent shape thanks to his obsession with daily runs and a healthy diet.
He had a heart of gold, not to mention he was patient, affectionate, and hard-working. He was a doctor, just like my grandfather, Thomas. They both came from a family of surgeons; therefore, I couldn't be anything less. I decided to follow in the footsteps of the two men I loved and admired most in this world.
Dad passed me the suitcase as we share our goodbyes, and I began strolling into the airport. Before the automatic doors closed behind me, I turned back to see him. He was leaning up against the car, watching me. I waved to him and continued to the airline counter to check my luggage.
Whenever we went out together, I often noticed how women would look at him, but deep down, I never understood how none of them managed to snag him. I was what you would call a youthful mistake.
Dad was just twenty years old when he took on his fatherly duties. And my mother? She simply disappeared. But that didn't keep Robert from being an excellent father.
My mother's story was a mystery to me. A taboo in the family. My grandparents never mentioned her, and my father's eternal response to my questions was:
I don't want to talk about it right now.
That attitude always bothered me. I pushed my family for even a tiny bit of information for years, failing at each attempt. That's why I'd decided to search for her on my own and discover why she’d disappeared, leaving us, and never looking back. She was a mystery, an enigma I desperately wanted to solve.
My boyfriend Oliver had offered to help. We'd been dating for a couple of months, and since I'd told him what little I knew about my mother, he'd become my accomplice and research assistant. With his help, I hired a private investigator so I could finally turn the page and satisfy my curiosity once and for all. I had a right to know the truth.
I'd always had problems committing and taking on responsibility. As I got older, my inclination toward drinking only got worse. My intuition told me that my mother's abandonment had much to do with that. I needed closure, to move on and not let myself get stuck in a depressive rut.
Personally, I consider myself to be a hopeless romantic. I was waiting for my Prince Charming. A true believer in marriage. Maybe that was because of the beautiful bond I'd witnessed between my grandparents and how they complemented each other. However, and though it might sound contradictory, I had serious issues staying in a romantic relationship for more than three months.
After passing through the cumbersome security lines. Flights made me a little nervous, and with time to spare, I decided to grab a drink and a snack because I was starving.
I hightailed it to the airline's VIP lounge. As I walked in, I saw a long table dressed in a white tablecloth and a couple of different-colored flower arrangements at the center. Placed upon it were trays with different types of food from pasta salad to beef stew. I got closer and examined each one, trying to decide what to have.
The food looks good.
I heard a man's voice say next to me as I shamelessly piled salad onto my plate. With the rush of getting ready for my trip, I'd forgotten to eat lunch, and my stomach was now growling so bad I was sure everyone around me could hear it.
Yeah, everything looks delicious,
I replied without looking up. For a moment, that voice sounded familiar, but I didn't give it much thought.
After serving myself a little bit of beef stew, I raised my head to look for the man with that sweet yet deep voice, but it was too late. He was gone.
Once aboard the plane, I notice the class was reasonable empty. For that I was thankful no one was seated next to me. I took out the congress brochure to flip through. I didn't want it to be obvious I was a newbie at this.
An hour later, I heard a woman laugh and a man's voice whispering something to her. From my seat, I couldn't listen in to what they were saying, but I did notice the man's voice sounded a lot like the guy who'd spoken to me in the VIP lounge.
Hmm, what are the odds? I thought.
The couple was seated right behind me, and my curiosity was killing me.
One of them pressed the button for the flight attendant, who soon appeared. The girl asked for a couple of blankets, saying she was cold. Her request was quickly granted, and, in between giggles, they thanked her for the gesture.
For an instant, they went silent, and I imagined they were watching a movie. Intrigued and unable to resist, I turned to look at the couple from between the seats. What I saw caused my jaw to drop.
I first noticed the brightly colored woven bracelet on the man's wrist. His hand was under the girl's skirt, moving swiftly in and out. My eyes were glued. The erotic scene was also incredibly sexy, and though I hated to admit it, I could feel myself getting wet. I closed my eyes and leaned into the chair, pressing my lips together. I opened them almost at once to ensure no one had seen me spying.
You can keep watching, I don't mind. We're getting to the best part,
I heard the man say to me from the gap between the seats, his tone of voice low and chilling.
I nearly died of embarrassment. That sexy and terribly shameless man had awoken me from wanting to play his little game. He wanted me to watch as he delighted the girl with his touch. And the worst part was that I wanted to watch and imagine he was doing it to me.
I started to hesitate, but as I heard the zipper on his pants, I couldn't resist. My pulse was racing, and I was anxious to see what would happen next.
I turned around cautiously to not call attention to myself. My gaze landed on a large, thick, and hard dick. A delicate hand with long red nails grasped it firmly. It slid up and down slowly, leisurely. I lifted my gaze until my eyes met his. They were a crystal-clear shade of blue. They were beautiful, especially given the intensity with which he was staring at me.
The gap between the seats was narrow, so I couldn't see his face well. And the girl had leaned over, desperate to kiss him, completely blocking my view.
I sat up straight in my seat. I was embarrassed I'd been caught and annoyed that I'd fallen into a trap. That man was dangerous, a daring exhibitionist who enjoyed the attention.
I'm going to ignore you. None of this is happening, I repeated in my mind.
I took a big gulp of air, held it in my lungs for three seconds, and then gradually let it go, focusing on my breathing. I needed to get my thoughts in order if that was even possible after what I'd just witnessed.
I waited ten minutes before getting up, doing everything in my power not to look back at them. I walked to the tiny lavatory and locked the door. I looked at myself in the mirror. I was blushing, hot and bothered.
This isn't good, I thought, shaking my head.
I turned the water on and splashed my face. I dried it carefully with a paper towel, feeling more at ease.
They're probably just newlyweds,
I said softly as if to justify the act, but I couldn't erase that blue gaze from my mind.
When I returned to my seat, I noticed that the woman behind me was alone. For some strange reason I couldn't explain, that made me feel better.
I got ready to sit down when I found a slip of paper on my seat cushion. I picked it up to get a better look. It was a business card for Sandra Lagunes, Esthetician.
I squinted my eyes and looked around. There was no trace of the man with blue eyes. I looked at the card again and turned it over to find a message written in pen.
I hope you liked what you saw, call me... followed by his phone number.
The man who was with me left that for you,
said the woman. It's my card. I gave it to him because he didn't have anywhere else to write. Call him. You won't regret it,
she said coolly. You can also call me. We'd make a stupendous trio,
she assured me with a wink and a naughty smile.
My whole face went red, and I sat down without saying a word. I was speechless. It was the first time I'd ever experienced such a thing.
I grabbed my bag to toss the card inside. I took out my iPod and headphones, wanting to escape from everything around me. I searched through the songs until I found a Coldplay album. I closed my eyes as I heard the notes to the first song, letting out a sigh of frustration. The situation had gotten out of control. That guy... who did he think he was? He seemed so sure of himself but had the wrong idea about me. I had to prove it to him if I ever saw him again.
