    Dedication

    Zenaida Toledo

To my mother, the woman who, without a career, made the biggest impact in my life. A little girl that was an orphan at age seven and became a maid at that age in Cuba to have food and a roof over her shoulders to survive. Her dreams were realized by serving others in need. She worked hard to make a living and made sure that I would have the values that helped me climb the character ladder. She had the courage to bring me to the U.S. from communist Cuba, and although we did not have anything and could not speak the language, we had one another. Her motto in my life was You are an overcomer, no matter how hard it gets, and that was a strong foundation for my life journey; out of that thought, my life took off.

As I was writing this book, my mother died and went to the Lord, but up to the last day of her life, she taught me the best lesson of diversity I have ever learned in my life. In her nursing home, nurses, CNAs, managers, and administrators from all walks of life, Jamaica, Trinidad, African American, Puerto Ricans, and Americans, came into that room crying, praying for her for all the unconditional love my mother has given them regardless of race, culture, or language. I learned in the last days of her life that the best diversity program in this world is a heart connection in Christ.

    United States of America

To the United States of America because I could have never written this book if I had not landed in this country from communist Cuba. This country gave me freedom of religion and the opportunity to give my life to Christ. This country gave a young immigrant girl (fifteen years old) the freedom to fulfill all her dreams in a way she could have never imagined. Therefore, I want to dedicate this book to the United States of America, the only country in the world where the logo is One nation under God with liberty and justice for all. God bless America, my home sweet home.

    Acknowledgments

This book has taken three years to write, in the shadows of success and failures. But with faith, inspiration from many women, and focus it is finally completed.

I would like to acknowledge key women in my life that inspired me to write this book.

My granddaughter Abriella Zion Leon, who has inspired me through the years to focus on the things in life that truly matter.

To Johanna Roa, a single mother who has traversed the journey with faith and courage, you are a pillar of strength, Johanna. Thank you for your encouragement and feedback, Maria Ponce Suarez, a Cuban immigrant that has traversed the journey with perseverance and courage to become a successful surgeon technician. Carolina Neira, who never gave up on her journey to her master’s degree and left it all to counsel unaccompanied undocumented minors in New York City. You have been an inspiration for crossing the bridge Here2There; thank you for your trust in me as your coach throughout your journey. Francheska Dominguez, a dental practice consultant, a married woman with three little kids who has not given up on her dream to start her own business; your faith and resilience in the Word has comforted me throughout the journey of writing this book. Jessie Smith, who demonstrated so many times that it is okay to pivot and take on a different journey that is more aligned with your gifts than what your family and the culture define for you. Sandra M. Ramos, a divorced woman, worshiper of Christ, with an amazing spirit and resilience in Scripture; you always inspire me to look forward by pointing the right scripture at the right time.

To my precious daughter-in-law Rebecca Leon, a woman of Proverbs 31 in the twenty-first century. Thank you for allowing me to walk next to you in your journey of endurance, patience, courage, and love for the Lord, no matter how difficult the journey of a pastor’s wife is.

To Stephanie Chantry, the first Italian Belgian woman I coached and helped build a career in the United States. She has been a precious inspirational ruby to both of my books.

These young women inspired me throughout the years to write this book to help other women survive and lead in the twenty-first-century Babylon.

To TBN for the amazing opportunity of publishing this book, easiness to approach, integrity, and support from the beginning, and for expressing your enthusiasm for my book because of the unique way I address women in Christ.
