The Haunted Voice - Todd Bates
PREFACE
I can still hear the voices, even now. Even as I write this, I find myself taken back to those first experiences – those moments when everything changed and when it was as if the physical world slipped away from me. When I heard it, I knew my life would never again be the same. Everything changed. I changed.
It really is truly remarkable just how life works. How it has this uncanny, otherworldly way of leading us to moments of clarity. But how those moments of clarity come in seemingly the most disruptive of ways. To be faced with the certain knowledge that we aren’t alone – that we’re being watched – it’s disruptive. Such a notion changes everything and shifts the perspective of life that we had only moments before taken such comfort in. My beliefs changed when I heard the voices from beyond. I knew I wasn’t alone.
I’ve heard it said before that sometimes the most beautiful things can come from the most horrifying, most terrifying experiences. In the world of the paranormal, I find this expression to be true. I see it confirmed to me over and over again. Life has a way of showing us beauty in the midst of things that can so often seem so very dark. And even in the midst of the darkness, there is always a faint light.
As I write these words now, sharing with you for the first time the story of my life, I have to admit that, looking back, even I feel a sense of amazement at the journey. I was skeptic. A nonbeliever. In fact, I wanted nothing to do with the unseen world at all. It seemed like little more than the stuff of fairytales. I had always been much more concerned with what I had long considered normal
life. But it all changed.
Little did I realize then that by hearing the voices from beyond, I would begin to find my own voice as well. That by sharing their voices I would, in turn, be given a platform by which to share my very own. Throughout the years, I have heard it said that my voice is distinct.
Recognizable.
Different,
even. That happens when you move around in life, picking up different dialects and tones from the places you had once called home.
As a voiceover artist, I find this has always worked to my advantage within in the industry, if I’m to be completely honest. But looking back, I have to admit that years ago I never would have imagined the success I’ve found even in the world of doing voiceover
work. As I share my story with you, what I think you’ll quickly begin to see is just how very much the world beyond has contributed in my ability to find my own voice – and the ability to use that voice to share with the world what has become a driving passion of my life. Where there had once been doubt and skepticism, now there exists the sort of intrigue that keeps one awake at night.
We question things. Maybe we’re designed that way. We always want answers. But, most often, in our ever-elusive search for answers we find ourselves faced with even greater questions. And it goes on and on. Maybe that’s the beauty of it in some way – the beauty being in the journey of endless discovery. Just when we think we’ve seen it all, we find there’s always more to discover.
There was once a time when the very idea of WLTK Digital Broadcasting seemed like little more than just a passing thought. How would I even begin such an endeavor? It seemed like little more than a hobby at first. But, again, life has the most remarkable way of leading us toward even greater discoveries. And with each discovery, we end of discovering a little more and more about our own selves.
Now, as I write this, I look back with a sense of both nostalgia and a sense of wonder. It brings a tear to my eye, if I’m to be completely honest with you. Haunted Voices
is now one of the longest running paranormal programs in history. WLTK Digital Broadcasting is reaching new territories and markets that once seemed impossible. I have the privilege of helping to create and market many of the most successful brands within the paranormal world by providing my voice. I stand in amazement at how life works.
And so, here in the very beginning, I find myself in amazement at how it all began. For me, it began with voices from beyond. Voices that could only be described as haunted.
Through research, through experience, and, most of all, through my own sense of wonder, what I’ve come to find is that those voices serve a purpose. They’re not without reason. They exist on purpose – calling out to us, even still.
These haunted voices remind us not only of the other side but also of this life among the living even now. They call to us, reminding us of the very thing that they so eerily echo: Life.
Not death. In shocking and in often horrifying ways they call
