About this ebook

The Casual Sacrifice
A woman writes to a man who mocked her to impress his friends.

"Belonging is magic. It automatically creates an identity. It elevates people. It makes them feel important, respected. Sometimes it will make them feel smarter, superior, above everyone else. Because everyone in the group validates and reinforces the other one's illusions, fantasies, prejudices, lies. And, in a magical fashion, everything one does in a group is right; as long as everyone in it is doing it, and because everyone in it is doing it.
It is shocking how casually and nonchalantly people have abused and sacrificed others, as long as everyone in their group was doing it.
It is shocking how casually and nonchalantly people will abuse and sacrifice others, as long as everyone in their group is doing it."

"Hey, listen" is an anthology of stories Violet and Lisa created over a period of several years. Each title is a fictionalized story, stylized as a letter, of people who were forced to confront powerful self-deceptions about the world and about their world.

Dear reader, welcome to a world of psychology and emotions.

    About The Casual Sacrifice

    A woman writes to a man who mocked her to impress his friends.

    ––––––––

    This is the story of a young woman, a librarian, who is mocked by a local man whom she barely knows. She writes about belonging, about the deadly fear of social rejection and about the obsessive pursuit of popularity by any means, at any cost; about social relations, moral autonomy and popular or unpopular heroes. She warns him about a social environment that demands loyalty to tribal dependencies and promotes popularity as the ultimate social value, because it can manufacture it and sell it; and it can manufacture it and sell it because it has commodify it.

    Invitation To A Journey

    Every book, song, film, music, performance, painting, drawing, sculpture, photograph, poem is a creation. Every creation tells a story. Every story starts a journey. What a celestial event then is when travelers reach their destination through a stranger's journey.

    Metamorphosis

    We don't know each other well; quite the opposite. We met a few weeks ago at the library where I work and we have talked a few times, three or four, always in the library. However, I considered you a friend or, at least, a potential friend. Because we talked about a lot and laughed a lot; because you have interesting ideas and subtle humor; because you make unconventional thoughts. Because you want to learn against all odds: in a social environment, the place you were born and raised and still living in, that isn't a great help.

    ––––––––

    Then, a few days ago, I was witness to and victim of an instant metamorphosis. I was heading home when I saw you from a distance;
