About this ebook

Reading the Bible should be an exciting journey filled with profound insights, awe, suspense, and adventure. It is not just a book tied to a particular religion. Rather, the Bible is comprised of 66 books (39 Old Testament and 27 New Testament), filled with stories and life lessons that touch on everything from history, law, and poetry to biographical information, letters, and even prophecy.

If used properly, readers will connect with the text and see themselves, others, and the world from a new perspective. They will enjoy the Bible and long to revisit it repeatedly, taking in new insights and information each time. It will be a tool and guide they simply cannot put down.

However, for most, reading the Bible piques both curiosity and confusion. It can seem complex, intimidating, and hard to comprehend. The book you’re about to dive into is meant to act as a reading assistant, guiding the reader smoothly from one page to the next while enhancing their understanding.

Thanks to meticulous research and attention to detail, this book is truly in a class of its own. Structured chronologically, the side notes before and after certain Bible passages provide additional context and clear away the fog. In addition, introductions placed before most chapters or verses help the reader anticipate and better understand what is coming. At the same time, explanations of Hebrew traditional culture, day-to-day events, and the period of kings (from king Solomon to Zedekiah) simplify information and help the reader retain that information.

The book also elaborates on dates and times, characters’ ages, history year-by-year timetable (from creation to John's last words), and includes common Q and A. It is ideal for personal study, group studies, and institutional curriculum and is an especially valuable tool for church leaders.

    The Bible - Guy Quinn

    From Creation to Flood

    Covered a 1656-Year Period

    4000 B.C. – 2344 B.C.

    The Beginning

4000 B.C. The seven days of creation:

GENESIS 1: ¹ In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. ² The earth was waste, and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. ³ And God said, "Let there be light." and there was light. ⁴ And God saw the light, that it was good, and divided the light from the darkness. ⁵ And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.

And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

⁶ And God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters." ⁷ And God made the firmament and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament, and it was so. ⁸ And God called the firmament Heaven.

And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.

⁹ And God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear." And it was so. ¹⁰ And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters called Seas, and God saw that it was good. ¹¹ And God said, "Let the earth put forth grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit-trees bearing fruit after their kind, wherein is the seed thereof, upon the earth." And it was so. ¹² And the earth brought forth grass, herbs yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, wherein is the seed thereof, after their kind- and God saw that it was good.

¹³ And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.

¹⁴ And God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven to divide the day from the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years. ¹⁵ And let them be for lights in the firmament of heaven to give light upon the earth." And it was so. ¹⁶ And God made the two great lights ~ the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night; He made the stars also! ¹⁷ And YHWH/Jehovah set them in the firmament of heaven to give light upon the earth, ¹⁸ and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness- and God saw that it was good.

¹⁹ And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.

²⁰ And God said, "Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. ²¹ And God created the great sea-monsters, and every living creature that move, wherewith the waters swarmed, after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind- and YHWH/Jehovah saw that it was good. ²² And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."

²³ And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.

²⁴ And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind, cattle, and creeping things, and beasts of the earth after their kind." And it was so. ²⁵ And God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creep upon the ground after its kind- and God saw that it was good.

²⁶ And God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness {Father, Son, Spirit}. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creep upon the earth. ²⁷ And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him (male and female created He them). ²⁸ And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and cover the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that move upon the earth. ²⁹ And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food. ³⁰ And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creep upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for food." And it was so. ³¹ And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.

And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Another summary of the creation account:

GENESIS 2:1-3 ¹ And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them {same day minutes/hours apart}. ² And on the seventh day God finished His work which He had made, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. ³ And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because that in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

Q: Why is 4000 B.C. suggested as being the beginning of creation?

A: The record of the creation event is twice described in Genesis 1 and 2:1-2, with the creation’s details and what had occurred during the first 2000 years (around 2300 to be exact) since. The title of this book would not be called Genesis (origin, beginning) if it were not so. Additionally, if this event is not taken literally, most everything else would be under suspicion. Furthermore, we can’t excuse that it (through genealogy) is also mentioned several times throughout scripture and acknowledged within the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20:11).

Five different authors, and nowhere within the Bible does it describe another possible explanation or challenge:

The genealogy record in Genesis 5 & 11

    Matthew 1:1-17 & Luke 3:23-38, Joseph’s, and Mary’s bloodline

    1 Chronicles chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

    Ruth 4:18-22

Another element applicable to this subject is the calendar the Orthodox Jews have used for thousands of years, dating back 5780 years. This calendar (Hebrew) number (date) to the Jewish community represents the beginning of creation (Genesis 1:1) from day 1 (a 24-hour period).

Continuing with the account of the creation:

GENESIS 2:4-17 ⁴ These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that God made earth and heaven. ⁵ No plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for God had not caused it to rain upon the earth and there was not a man to till the ground. ⁶ But there went up a mist from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground. ⁷ And God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. ⁸ And God planted a garden eastward, in Eden and there He put the man whom He had formed. ⁹ And out of the ground made God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food (the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil).

Side Note: The tree of life most likely was allowed to be eaten from (Revelation 22:2). Similar to vitamins for the body and mind keeping both healthy.

¹⁰ And a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it was parted and became four steams. ¹¹ The name of the first is Pishon, which stretched through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. ¹² And the gold of that land was pure. There also was bdellium and the onyx stone. ¹³ And the name of the second river is Gihon; the same is it that stretched through the whole land of Cush. ¹⁴ And the name of the third river is Hiddekel (Tigris), east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. ¹⁵ And God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

¹⁶ And God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat, ¹⁷ but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it. For in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die."

Side Note: Initially, when God created man, he was created outside the garden while the garden was still being completed (same day minutes/hours apart). This is confirmed twice in verses 8 and 15 of chapter 2 (above). And later, Adam is returned to where he was taken from after being banished (Genesis 3:23).

That same day (the 6th day), and several hours after the man was created (he was given the name Adam, details of which are not recorded), Eve was then made:

GENESIS 2:18-25 ¹⁸ And God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helper for him." ¹⁹ And out of the ground God formed every beast of the field, and every bird of the heavens and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them, and whatsoever the man called every living creature, that was the name thereof. ²⁰ And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found a helper for him.

²¹ And God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept, and He took one of his ribs, then closed up the flesh thereof. ²² And the rib, which God had taken from the man, made a woman, and brought her unto the man {same day hours apart}. ²³ And the man said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." ²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh. ²⁵ And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

    114 Years Later!

Q: How was it determined how long Adam & Eve were in the Garden?

A: Sin was not in any part of creation until disobedience was established. Most Bible scholars and the Orthodox Jewish community suggest Adam and Eve when created, resembled early puberty/preteen years, somewhere between 13 to 15 years of age (this is only speculation).

    {This writing will subscribe to this theory and work on that assumption putting their age at 14 years old for simplicity reasons.}

Let’s begin with the genealogy record in Genesis 5:6-32. Interestingly, all nine listed names beginning with Seth (Adam’s 3rd son) fathered children at an older age up until Noah’s birth. ~ We will be reading more later ~ None of these fathers (as documented) fathered a son earlier than 65 years old, and throughout the Bible, the children are mentioned by name, from the oldest to youngest. So realistically, we could suspect that Cain and Abel were born at Adam’s older age as Adam’s sons had (so the question is how much older?).

Now concerning Cain and Abel, the Bible doesn’t give detail regarding the age of Adam when they were born but seems clearly to indicate it was after being banished from the garden (Genesis 3:23-24 and Genesis 4:1). Seth was born at Adams ACTUAL age of 130 years old (Genesis 5:3) in 3870 B.C. And taken into account in what Eve says about Seth’s birth (in Genesis 4:25), "God has given me another child in place of Abel because Cain killed him." This strongly indicates that Abel was killed by his brother Cain not too long before Seth’s birth (suggesting just a few months/weeks, maybe even days earlier). So, a reasonable guess of Cain and Abel’s age was around 15 years old when Cain killed his brother (again, only speculation) - putting Adam at the then ACTUAL age of about 114 years old when Cain and Abel were born, which would have been 3886 B.C. ~ (See Side Note A: below for more information).

This suggests that Satan was with God for over a century before he was cast out of his position for his rebellion ~ (See Side Note B: below for more information). And since he was unable to strike back at God - instead, he aimed to attack all His creation, beginning with Eve (the weaker vessel as described in 1 Peter 3:7) within only minutes, or perhaps hours later, initiating the fall upon humanity (when sin entered the world).

    Side Note A:

Some suggest the fall (sin entering the world) in the Garden took place shortly after creation (within days/months after creation); Archbishop Ussher shares such a view. If that was the case, Adam and Eve had Cain / Abel earlier in their ACTUAL age (assuming still the theory they were created to resemble a 14 year-old, as most scholars believe). This would mean it was a century before the birth of Seth (born to Adam at the age of 130 years). This thought doesn’t sound reasonable.

Now some will ask, "why wouldn’t they (Adam and Eve) have had sexual relations during this period (in the 114 years) while in the garden? After all, did not God command them to be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth as told in Genesis 1:28?" Yes, God did tell them to be fruitful and multiply. However, consider the possibility that there was hardly a sexual desire (lust, sexual passion) within them because of the mixture of childlike innocence and the wonder of what they were experiencing with their six senses: sight, touch, smells, sounds, tastes, and conscience. All of which were a hundred times greater than what we can imagine! The farthest thing on their minds was having sexual relations (nakedness did not faze them, as said in Genesis 2:25). Childlike innocence was not short-lived back then like today. Furthermore, the garden was a paradise that extended for several miles to explore! And the interaction with God could have occupied a reasonable sum of the time in their daily activity plus communication with animals (which at this time animals had no fear of man up until Genesis 9:2). Time escaped them!

2 Peter 3:8~ "Beloved, do not forget this one thing, which with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day." This verse refers to ‘time’ spent with God, which seems to consume a space unimaginable in our comprehension. An excellent example of this can be seen with Moses and the 40 days/nights on Mount Sinai.

    Side Note B:

Some argue that the verse found in Job 38:6-7, where God asked Job this question: "On what were its bases set, or who laid its cornerstone – when the morning stars sang in chorus, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?" (Meaning angels and ministering spirits ~ heavenly host) Suggesting that Angels were created LONG before Genesis.

Angels were created on day 1, as stated in Genesis 2:1. The heavens first, and later that same day, the earth was created, most likely hours later. Precisely like the same order as when God created Adam and Eve on the 6th day, as we read in Genesis 2:21-23. Genesis 2:1~ "And the heavens and the earth were finished, and ALL the host of them." This last verse tells us creation (ALL creation) was established within 6 days and included the host in the heavens.

3886 B.C. 114 years go by (from the ending of Genesis 2 to the beginning of Genesis 3) when Eve encounters:

    The Serpent’s Deception

GENESIS 3:1-7 ¹ Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which God had made. And he asked to the woman, "Has God said, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden? ² And the woman replied to the serpent, Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat. ³ But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. ⁴ And the serpent said unto the woman, You shall not surely die! For God does know that in the day you eat thereof, your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as God, knowing good and evil."

⁶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat. Then she gave also to her husband with her, and he did eat. ⁷ And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and then sewed fig-leaves together and made themselves aprons.

    Later that same day:

GENESIS 3:8-19 ⁸ They then heard the voice of God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of God amongst the trees in the garden. ⁹ And God called unto the man, and said to him, "Where are you? ¹⁰ And Adam said, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked. So I hid myself. ¹¹ And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded that you shouldest not eat from? ¹² And the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. ¹³ And God said to the woman, What is this you have done? And the woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I did eat."

¹⁴ And God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you above all cattle, and above every beast of the field. Upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life. ¹⁵ And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." ¹⁶ And unto the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. In pain you shall bring forth children, and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you! ¹⁷ Then to Adam He said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it!’ Cursed is the ground for your sake! In toil shall you eat of it all the days of your life. ¹⁸ Thorns and thistles shall it bring forth to you, and you shall eat the herb of the field, ¹⁹ by the sweat of your face shall you eat bread. This until you return unto the ground, for out of it were you taken. For dust you are, and unto dust shall you return."

Most likely, after this, there was a brief separation between them from God (perhaps up to a few days in length). And during which a title wave of strange emotions flooded them both (shame, guilt, disappointment, anger, worry, etc. Emotions that they have never experienced). Including the very possibility that Eve may have realized a child was growing inside of her (promoting the following verse to be said):

GENESIS 3:20 ²⁰ And the man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

Side Note: This verse above in Genesis 3:20 (oddly inserted here) indicates Eve was perhaps with child (pregnant) just before leaving the Garden.

It wasn’t long after this when:

GENESIS 3:21-24 ²¹ God made for Adam and for his wife coats of skins and clothed them. ²² And God said, "Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil. Now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever." ²³ Therefore God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from where he was taken from. ²⁴ So He drove out the man, and He placed at the east of the garden of Eden the Cherubim, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to prevent the way of the tree of life.

Side Note: The statement God made in verse 22, "Behold, the man has become as one of Us…" refers to His attributes, Father, Son, and Spirit, three in one. Knowing good and evil and not shunning it where and when necessary.

GENESIS 4-1-2 ¹ And the man knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bare Cain. And Eve said, "I have gotten a man with the help of God." ² And again she bare his brother Abel. Eventually, Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

    14 Years Later!

3871 B.C. (estimated) Several years had passed (both boys were probably about 15 years of age at this point) when:

    Cain Killed Abel

GENESIS 4:3-16 ³ And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto God. ⁴ And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And God had respect unto Abel and to his offering, ⁵ but unto Cain and to his offering He had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. ⁶ And God said unto Cain, "Why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, shall it not be received? And if you do not well, sin couches at the door, and unto you shall be its desire. But you must rule over it!"

It wasn’t long after this when:

⁸ Later, Cain talked with Abel his brother. And it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and killed him. ⁹ Then God said unto Cain, "Where is Abel your brother? And he answered, I know not! Am I my brother’s keeper? ¹⁰ And God said, What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground. ¹¹ And now cursed are you from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. ¹² When you work the ground, it shall not henceforth yield to you its strength. A fugitive and a wanderer shall you be on the earth."

¹³ And Cain said to God, "My punishment is greater than I can bear! ¹⁴ Behold, You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground, and from Your face shall I be hid. And I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and it will come to pass that whosoever finds me will kill me. ¹⁵ And God said to him, Therefore whosoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." And God appointed a sign on Cain, lest any finding him should strike him. ¹⁶ And Cain went out from the presence of God, and lived in the land of Nod, on the eastside of Eden.

    3870 B.C.

GENESIS 4:25 ²⁵ And Adam knew his wife again, and she bare a son and called his name Seth. For, said she, "God has appointed me another seed instead of Abel, for Cain slew him."

Side Note: Eve gave birth to many other sons and daughters after Seth (Genesis 5:4). However, before Seth’s birth (in-between Abel and Seth), Eve gave birth to only daughters, explaining how Cain later took a wife.

    Over the decades that followed:

GENESIS 4:17-24 ¹⁷ And Cain knew his wife and she conceived, and bare Enoch, and he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch. ¹⁸ And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael; and Mehujael begat Methushael; and Methushael begat Lamech. ¹⁹ And Lamech took unto him two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. ²⁰ And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents and raised up cattle. ²¹ And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and pipe. ²² And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron, and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

²³ And Lamech said unto his wives: "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice, you wives of Lamech. Hearken unto my speech! For I have slain a man for wounding me, and a young man for bruising me. ²⁴ If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold."

    105 Years Later!

3765 B.C. Seth, at 105 years of age, had a son (Enosh):

GENESIS 4:26 ²⁶ And to Seth, to him also there was born a son, and he called his name Enosh. Then began men to call upon the name of YHWH/Jehovah.

Side Note: Genesis 4:26 says, "Then began men to call upon the name of YHWH/Jehovah." Like Adam’s name, God also had a name and was revealed to man.

GENESIS 5: Covers the generations from Adam to Noah’s days, covering 1560 years. (1 Chronicles 1:1-3 includes Noah’s three sons) This chapter can be found in the back of this book under Misc. Genealogies:

Side Note: Genesis 5:32 tells us that ‘Noah was 500 years old when he fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.’ Few other translations say, ‘after Noah was 500 years old.’ This word ‘after,’ with help from Genesis 11:10, allows us to pinpoint Noah’s age when Shem was born. Genesis 11:10 says Shem was 100 years old two years after the flood when he fathered Arpachshad (who was born).

If the flood date was in 2344 B.C. (most Bible scholars agree on this year) and an additional year (2343 B.C.) to debark from the Ark because of the height of the floodwaters. It would make that year 2341 B.C. when Arpachshad was born, two years after the flood. Another way of looking at this is. Noah was 600 years old when they entered the Ark (Genesis 7:6) and 601 when they exited the Ark (Genesis 8:13-16). So, two years from here would be the year 2341 B.C., when Shem was 100 years old - making Shem’s date of birth 2441 B.C. at Noah’s age of 503 years old.

Side Note: As we have read and will read, there are many areas where we can only speculate because the details are absent. This can include months, years, decades, and even centuries that may have little said if anything at all. One such example we see is from Seth’s firstborn son Enosh’s birth in 3765 B.C. (Genesis 5:6) until Chapter 6. A span of 13 centuries had passed with nothing recorded except what is said in Hebrews (New Testament writing) 11:5 about Enoch being taken up not seeing death because he walked with God, also what Jude said in 1:14 about Enoch. And last, what is said in Genesis 6:1-8.

From Enosh’s days on, God saw the wickedness of man was only gaining intensity:

GENESIS 6:1-7 ¹ And it also came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born unto them, ² that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were attractive, and they took them wives of any that they chose. ³ And YHWH/Jehovah said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for since he is corrupt, shall his days be a hundred and twenty years."

⁴ Thereby the Nephilim were on the earth in those days {and also later}, when the sons of God {fallen angels} came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. And were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown {legends}. ⁵ And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. ⁶ And it regretted YHWH/Jehovah that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart. ⁷ And YHWH/Jehovah said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the ground, both man, and beast, creeping things, and birds of the heavens. For I regret that I have made them!"

Side Note: In verse 2 (above) in Genesis 6. Where it says, "that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were attractive, and they took them wives of any that they chose." The book of Job (1:6, 2:1, and 38:7) describes these ‘sons of God’ as angels (however, in this particular case, they were fallen angels) cast out from heaven with Satan when he rebelled against God in what we read earlier concerning the serpent with Eve. They (these fallen angels) were able to (as Jude 1:6 shares in describing this particular event by saying, "And the angels who did not keep their proper domain but left their own abode…") cohabit with women and create offspring (an unnatural race). This created these so-called ‘men of renown’ as described in Genesis 6:4, Nephilim.

This is when the story of Noah begins:

2444 B.C. Yet there was only one among all the people YHWH/Jehovah found favor with within all the earth:

GENESIS 6:8-22 ⁸ However Noah had found favor in the eyes of God. ⁹ These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, and perfect in his generation. Noah walked with God. ¹⁰ Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. ¹¹ And the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. ¹² And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt. For all flesh was corrupted in all their ways upon the earth.

¹³ And YHWH/Jehovah spoke unto Noah, saying "The end of all flesh has come before Me. For the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. ¹⁴ Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Rooms shall you make in the ark, and cover it within and without with pitch. ¹⁵ And this is how you shall make it. The length of the ark three hundred cubits, the width of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits {about 450 feet in length, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet in height}. ¹⁶ A window shall you make in the ark, and in a cubit shall you finish it atop, and the door of the ark shall you set in the side thereof. With lower, second, and third stories shall you make it. ¹⁷ And I, behold, I will bring the flood of waters upon this earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven, everything that is in the earth shall die. ¹⁸ But I will establish My covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, and your wife, and your sons wives with you. ¹⁹ And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shall you bring into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. ²⁰ Of the birds after their kind, and of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every sort shall come unto you, to keep them alive. ²¹ And take unto you of food that is eaten and gather it to you, and it shall be for food for you, and for them." ²² Thus did Noah, according to all that YHWH/Jehovah commanded him, so did he.

GENESIS 7: ¹ And YHWH/Jehovah said unto Noah, "Come you, and all your house into the ark. For you have I see righteous before Me in this generation. ² Of every clean beast you shall take to you by seven, the male and his female. And of the beasts that are not clean two, the male and his female. ³ Of the birds also of the heavens, seven pairs, male and female, to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth. For in seven days, I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights, and every living thing that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the ground." ⁵ And Noah did according unto all that YHWH/Jehovah commanded him.

⁶ Noah was 600 years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. ⁷ And Noah went in with his sons, his wife, and his sons wives into the ark, because of the rising waters of the flood. ⁸ Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of birds, and of everything that creep upon the ground, ⁹ there went in two by two with Noah into the ark, male, and female, as YHWH/Jehovah commanded Noah.

¹⁰ And it came to pass after the seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth. ¹¹ In the six hundred year of Noah’s life, in the second month {Lyar}, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. ¹² And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. ¹³ In that same day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth (the sons of Noah), and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark. ¹⁴ They, and every beast after its kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort. ¹⁵ And they went in with Noah into the ark, two by two of all flesh wherein is the breath of life. ¹⁶ And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as YHWH/Jehovah commanded him, and YHWH/Jehovah shut him in.

¹⁷ The flood was forty days upon the earth and the waters increased, and bore up the ark, and it was lifted up above the earth. ¹⁸ And the waters prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark went upon the face of the waters. ¹⁹ And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth and all the high mountains that were under the whole heaven were covered. ²⁰ Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail, and the mountains were covered. ²¹ And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both birds, and cattle, and beasts, and every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth, and every man. ²² All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, of all that was on the dry land, died. ²³ And every living thing was destroyed that was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and creeping things, and birds of the heavens. They were destroyed from the earth and Noah only was left, and they that were with him in the ark. ²⁴ And the waters prevailed upon the earth a hundred and fifty days.

Days turned into weeks that turned to months:

GENESIS 8:1-19 ¹ And YHWH/Jehovah kept thought of Noah, and all the beasts, and all the cattle that were with him in the ark, and YHWH/Jehovah made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged. ² The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained, ³ and the waters returned from off the earth continually. And after the end of a hundred and fifty days the waters decreased. ⁴ And the ark rested in the seventh month {Tishrei}, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. ⁵ And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month. On the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.

⁶ And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made, ⁷ and he sent forth a raven, and it went forth to and from, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. ⁸ And he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground, ⁹ but the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned to him to the ark. For the waters were on the face of the whole earth and he put forth his hand and took her and brought her in unto him into the ark. ¹⁰ And he stayed yet another seven days, and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark, ¹¹ and the dove came to him at eventide and, lo, in her mouth an olive-leaf plucked off. So Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. ¹² And he stayed yet other seven days and sent forth the dove, and she returned not again unto him anymore.

    2343 B.C.

¹³ And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month {Nissan}, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dried. ¹⁴ And in the second month {Lyar}, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dry. ¹⁵ And YHWH/Jehovah spoke to Noah, saying, ¹⁶ "Go forth from the ark, you, your wife, your sons, and your sons wives with you. ¹⁷ Bring forth with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh, both birds, and cattle, and every creeping thing that creep upon the earth, that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth." ¹⁸ And Noah went forth, with his sons, and his wife, and his sons wives with him. ¹⁹ Also every beast, every creeping thing, and every bird, whatsoever moved upon the earth, after their families, went forth out of the ark.

Side Note: Noah, his wife, sons, and their wives were on the ark for 12 months according to Genesis 7:11, when they boarded and Genesis 8:14, when they exited. However, it took several months to a year for the land to recover, returning eatable crops.

2342 B.C. They exited the Ark, and God made a Covenant:

GENESIS 8:20-22 ²⁰ And Noah built an altar to YHWH/Jehovah, and took of every clean beast, and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. ²¹ And YHWH/Jehovah smelled the sweet savor and said in His heart, ‘I will not again curse the ground because of man, even though his imagination, man’s heart is evil from his youth. Nor will I again smite any more everything living, as I have done. ²² While the earth remain, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night, it shall not cease.

GENESIS 9:1-19 ¹ And YHWH/Jehovah blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth. ² And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every bird of the heavens. With all that crawls upon the ground, and all the fishes of the sea, into your hand are they delivered. ³ Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you as the green herb have I given you all. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall you not eat. And surely your blood, the blood of your life, will I require at the hand of every beast, and at the hand of man. Even at the hand of every man’s brother, will I require the life of man. Whoso shed man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed. For in the image of YHWH/Jehovah made He man. And you, be fruitful, multiply. Bring forth abundantly from the earth, and multiply therein."

⁸ And YHWH/Jehovah spoke to Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, ⁹ "And I, behold, I establish My covenant with you, and with your seed after you. ¹⁰ With every living creature that is with you, the birds, cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that go out of the ark. ¹¹ I will establish My covenant with you. Never shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of the flood. There shall never again be a flood to destroy the earth. ¹² And YHWH/Jehovah said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations. ¹³ I set My bow {rainbow} in the clouds, and it shall be in remembrance of a covenant between Me and the earth. ¹⁴ And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud, ¹⁵ I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh, and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. ¹⁶ And the bow shall be in the clouds, and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. ¹⁷ And YHWH/Jehovah said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is upon the earth."

¹⁸ And the sons of Noah, that went forth from the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth (Ham is the father of Canaan/Canaanites). ¹⁹ These three were the sons of Noah, and of these three was the whole earth once again established.

Side Note: It was from this point, after exiting the ark, God put the fear within animals of man and gave Noah permission to kill and eat as long as the blood (which is life) was not in them (most likely because there was still yet no produce to eat from the ground). Before the flood event, every man and beast ate what grew from the ground, and animals had no fear of man, including fish and birds.

    50 Years Later!

2292 B.C. (estimated) It was several decades later when:

GENESIS 9:20-29 ²⁰ And Noah began to be a farmer and also planted a vineyard, ²¹ and he one day drank of the wine and was drunken, and he was uncovered {naked} within his tent. ²² And Ham (the father of Canaan), saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers. ²³ And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father, and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.

²⁴ And Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done unto him. ²⁵ And he said, "Cursed be Canaan. A servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. ²⁶ And said, Blessed be YHWH/Jehovah, the God of Shem. And let Canaan be his servant. ²⁷ YHWH/Jehovah enlarge Japheth and let him dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his servant." ²⁸ Noah lived after the flood 350 years. ²⁹ And all the days of Noah were 950 years, and he died.

Side Note: It is not recorded what Canaan (Noah’s grandson from Ham’s four sons) had done to Noah to receive a curse. Speculation of this event varies and, to date, remains a mystery. The Canaanites later came from Canaan, which eventually was one of Israel’s enemies.

    200 to 300 Years Later!

Side Note: The generations/genealogy covering Noah’s sons listed in Genesis 10 is at the back of this book in Misc.

GENESIS 11:1-9 ¹ Now the entire earth was of one language. ² Then it came to pass, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they {most all the people of the world} live there. ³ Said one to another, "Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime for mortar. ⁴ And they said, Come, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven, and let’s make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth."

    2100-2000 B.C.

    The Tower of Babel

⁵ So God came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built. ⁶ And God said, "Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they purpose to do. Come, let Us go down, and confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech."

⁸ So God scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. ⁹ Therefore was the name of it called Babel, because God confuse the language of all the earth, and from here did God scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Side Note: This is when the people spread further into other continents, establishing new languages, cultures, and history, including wise tales and beliefs (man-made gods).

GENESIS 11:10-26 (See the back of the book under Misc., for the text of this genealogy)

This is when the story of Job begins:

The story of Job is estimated to have occurred sometime between the date 2000 and 1900 B.C. The author of this book is unknown, nor is it clear when it occurred. However, thoughtful consideration concludes that it was around this time in history. The events recorded concerning Job are actual events recognized by Jesus’ half-brother, James, in James 5:11.

Side Note: The book of Job (the oldest book preceding Moses’ writings) has a few paragraphs that are not easy to comprehend because the language used dates back over 4000 years.

JOB 1: ¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job, who was perfect and upright. He feared God and turned away from evil. ² There were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. ³ His belongings included 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and a very great number of servants. This man was the richest of all the children of the east.

⁴ His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one upon his day, and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. ⁵ It was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, "It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts." This did Job continually.

⁶ Now it came to pass on the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before God, that Satan also came among them. ⁷ And YHWH/Jehovah said unto Satan, "Where have you come from? Then Satan answered God, and said, From going to and from in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. ⁸ And YHWH/Jehovah said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Job? For there is none like him in all the earth, a perfect and an upright man. One that fears God and turns away from evil."

⁹ Then Satan answered God, and said, "Does Job fear God for no reason? ¹⁰ Has not You made a hedge around him and his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands and his substance is increased in the land. ¹¹ But withdraw Your hand, and touch not all that he has, and he will renounce You to Your face."

¹² And God said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power. Only upon himself put not forth your hand." So Satan went forth from the presence of God.

Side Note: This is a challenging thing to accept for most readers, how God would not only point out Job to Satan but approve a hardship to befall him. Yet, it was most likely because God knew Job’s deep-centered faith in Him that it could prove to those then and us today that faith itself is not just by words alone.

¹³ And it fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house, ¹⁴ that there came a messenger to Job, and said, "The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them ¹⁵ and the Sabeans came upon them and took them away. They also have slain the servants with the edge of the sword, and I only escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another messenger and said, The fire of God has fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them. I escaped alone to tell you! ¹⁷ While he was yet still speaking, there came also another and said, The Chaldeans {Assyrians} made three bands and fell upon the camels, and have taken them away, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword and I only escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁸ While he was yet speaking, there came also another and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house, ¹⁹ and behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness and smote the four corners of the house and it fell upon the young men and they are dead, and I only escaped alone to tell you."

²⁰ Then Job arose and tore his robe, and shaved his head, then fell down upon the ground, and worshipped ²¹ and he said, "Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. God gave, and God has taken away. Blessed be the name of YHWH/Jehovah." ²² In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly!

    Not long later:

JOB 2: ¹ Again it came to pass on the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before God, that Satan came also among them to present himself. ² And YHWH/Jehovah said unto Satan, "From where do you come from? And Satan answered God, and said, From going to and from in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. ³ And YHWH/Jehovah said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God and turns away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity, even though you moved Me against him, to destroy him without cause. ⁴ And Satan answered YHWH/Jehovah and said, Skin for skin, yes, all that a man has will he give for his life. But put forth Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will renounce You to Your face. ⁶ And YHWH/Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, he is in your hand. Only spare his life!" ⁷ So Satan went forth from the presence of God, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

⁸ Job took him a potsherd to scrape himself therewith and he sat among the ashes {outside his camp}. ⁹ Then said his wife unto him, "Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Renounce God and die! ¹⁰ But he said to her, You speak as one of the foolish women that speak. What? Shall we receive only good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil when it comes?" In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

¹¹ Now when Jobs three friends heard of all this evil that has come upon him, they came everyone from his own place: Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite, and they made an appointment together to come to be with and to comfort Job. ¹² And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, they knew him not, lifting up their voice and wept and ripped their robe, and sprinkled dust upon their heads. ¹³ So they sat down with him upon the ground for seven days and seven nights, and none spoke a word. For they saw that his grief was very great.

On the eight day (Jobs first words):

JOB 3: ¹ After this opened Job his mouth and cursed his birthday. ² And Job answered and said, ³ "Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night which said, ‘There is a man-child conceived.’ Let that day be darkness. Let not God from above seek for it, neither let the light shine upon it. Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell upon it. Let all that make black the day terrify it. As for that night, let thick darkness seize upon it. Let it not rejoice among the days of the year. Let it not come into the number of the months. Lo, let that night be barren. Let no joyful voice come therein. Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan. Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark. Let it look for light but have none, neither let it behold the eyelids of the morning. ¹⁰ Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid trouble from my eyes. ¹¹ Why couldn’t I have died from the womb? Why did I not give up the ghost when my mother gave birth to me? ¹² Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breasts, that I should suck? ¹³ For now should I have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept then had I been at rest ¹⁴ with kings and counsellors of the earth, who built up wasted places for themselves ¹⁵ or with princes that had gold. Who filled their houses with silver. ¹⁶ Or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been, as infants that never saw light. ¹⁷ There the wicked cease from troubling and there the weary are at rest. ¹⁸ There the prisoners are at ease together. They hear not the voice of the taskmaster. ¹⁹ The small and the great are there and the servant is free from his master. ²⁰ Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul ²¹ who long for death, but it comes not, and dig for it more than for hid treasures. ²² Who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave? ²³ Why is light given to a man whose way is hid and whom God has hedged in? ²⁴ For my sighing comes before I eat, and my groanings are poured out like water. ²⁵ For the thing which I fear comes upon me and that which I am afraid of comes unto me. ²⁶ I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither have I rest but only trouble comes."

JOB 4: ¹ Then Eliphaz the Temanite spoke: ² "If one aims to commune with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking? ³ Behold, you have instructed many and you have strengthened the weak hands. Your words have upheld him that was falling, and you have made firm the feeble knees. But now it is come unto you and you faint. It touches you and you are troubled! Is not your fear of God your confidence, and the integrity of your ways your hope? Remember, and answer this. Whoever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off? Accordingly as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, sow trouble, and reap the same. By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of His anger they are consumed. ¹⁰ The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perished for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad. ¹² Now this thinking was secretly brought to me, and my ear received a whisper thereof. ¹³ In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep fallen on men, ¹⁴ fear came upon me and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. ¹⁵ Then a spirit passed before my face. The hair of my flesh stood up. ¹⁶ It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof and a form was before my eyes. There was silence and I heard a voice, saying, ¹⁷ ‘Shall mortal man be more just then God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?’ ¹⁸ Behold, He puts no trust in His servants and His angels He charges with folly. ¹⁹ How much more them that dwell in houses of clay whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed like the moth! ²⁰ Between morning and evening they are destroyed. They perish forever without any noticing it. ²¹ Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die without wisdom."

    Eliphaz continues:

JOB 5: ¹ "Call now- is there any that will answer you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn to? ² For vexation kills the foolish man and jealousy slays the silly one. ³ I have seen the foolish taking root: But suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed
