Getting ready

Hardware requirement for Tally ERP 9

The processor for running Tally on the laptop or desktop should be Intel Pentium version four or above version.

The RAM should be at least 512 MB or more.

The hard disk space should be a minimum of 75 MB leaving data.

Monitor resolution should be 1024 x 768 or a high resolution is recommended.

The operating system required should be Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and so on.

Software requirement: Tally ERP9 version 6.6.3

Note: While working with Tally ERP 9, the reader needs to set the date for the current financial year in their Tally ERP 9 software and then they can work further easily. This date can be changed by pressing the F2 key or by pressing the Alt +F2 key. This change of date is followed for every chapter that the reader is working with because date plays an important role in the Tally ERP 9 software. So, first the reader needs to set the date as per the current financial year and after that, they can work easily with Tally ERP 9.

How to do it

The following are the steps to set up the Tally ERP 9 software:

The first step is to download the Tally software, that is, Tally ERP 9 version 6.6.3 from the Tally website.

The setup will be downloaded.

Now, double click on the Tally ERP 9 setup.

The setup will be installed automatically.

The shortcut of the Tally ERP 9 software will appear on the desktop.

Click on the Tally ERP 9 icon present on the desktop.

If Tally is paid, then activate the license and click on work in educational mode.

The Tally ERP 9 software is hassle-free to install and is user-friendly software. The reader should follow the steps properly during the installation of the Tally software and once the software gets installed on the laptop or desktop of the reader, they can start working on the software easily.

Tally startup

The Tally start up deals with the installation of Tally by the readers. As the reader has installed Tally successfully, now it is time for the reader to start Tally.

How to do it

Perform the following steps to start up the Tally:

Click on the Start option and go to Programs.

Search the Tally ERP 9 folder.

Move the Tally ERP 9 icon to the desktop by creating a shortcut.

Double click on the Tally ERP 9 icon present on the desktop.

The Tally welcome screen is shown on the desktop screen.

Before starting to work in Tally, the reader must know the various screen components of the Tally ERP 9 software so that the reader understands it in a better way, which will make the reader’s understanding of the Tally ERP 9 software better and they can easily work using the software.

The Tally screen components

The Tally screen components give the details of the Tally screen to the user. The Tally screen has various components that the user must know before starting working with the software. This will help the user to understand the Tally screen components in a better way.

Following are the Tally screen components:

Title Bar: The Title Bar in the Tally software denotes the version and also denotes the Tally software’s name.

Horizontal button bar: It helps the user to choose various options like selection of language key, keyboard language, Tally help, and many more. This option works like a button that features the user’s needs, he or she can click on it.

Minimize button: This feature minimizes the Tally screen and brings it to the Taskbar.

Gateway of Tally: It is the entrance for the user to enter inside Tally and it has various options like various menus, various screens, and various reports as required by the user. It accepts the choices of the user and selects the options to view data as and when required.

Buttons toolbar: The button toolbar gets activated as and when required by the user for working in Tally and it makes the user work comfortably by activating the button as required by the user.

Calculator/ODBC server: The calculator is provided in Tally to the user for calculation purposes and the ODBC Server option is also provided by Tally to the user for connecting Tally with the server to see the client’s data that are in different locations.

Bottom pane: It displays the Tally version number, Tally release details, system current date, and system current time for the user’s knowledge.

Language button: It allows the user to make and choose language according to the user’s choice.

Mouse/keyboard conventions

The following mouse and keyboard conventions are mentioned as follows, where the reader will know the use of mouse and keyboard in Tally. The following table shows the details of the mouse and keyboard conventions:

Creation of a company

The company creation is the first step the reader should know in order to work in Tally ERP 9. The reader can create a company by their own name or by any other name. This will lead to successful creation of the company by the reader for further working in Tally ERP 9. Without the company creation, the user cannot work in the Tally
