    APPENDIX

    FOREWORD

    By C. R. Gibbs

In Power College Preparation, veteran educator and community advocate Robert Folk sets forth specific, vital information to enable the reader to successfully embark on one of life's most momentous journeys: the pursuit of higher education. In three sections, divided into 21 easy-to-read chapters, he guides you through the processes of preparing, planning, and, yes, the critically important step of financing your college experience.

But, as useful and as necessary as these steps are, the author does not leave you at the door of your new dorm room. The author’s objectives for you are far grander than that.

For some students, graduation day is the day they close their textbooks for the final time. Once they have their sheepskin (degree) in hand, some consider the largest part of their learning over. Mr. Folk strongly disagrees with that attitude. In more than one place in the book, he stresses life-long learning.

In this part of your life, indeed, even before you leave college, he wants you to refine your skills and personal vision. He shows you how to view things with a broader, deeper perspective and to build habits useful in your post college career. For example, he recommends that you associate with like-minded, positive people and make them part of your network.

    ––––––––

While in college, take the initiative to develop everything from a personal statement, to hunting for internships, to crafting a digital portfolio. But don't worry, he will explain everything as you read the book.

Power College Preparation will be valuable to you long after you have graduated from high school and college. You could call it your roadmap to success.

    Enjoy the journey.
