About this ebook

On April 12, 1981, a major celestial event occurred in the United States of America, which was described by numerous news sources as a spectacular aurora borealis. This event was witnessed by many people across the United States, from east to west as well as north and south. It was viewed by meteorologists and other experts as highly unusual as aurora borealis generally do not occur in this manner. Many who witnessed this illumination of the skies, thought that mountains and other areas were on fire, and people lit up switchboards in numerous places, calling the police and fire stations to report the event.

In this ground-breaking work, author Tom Doyle discusses this heavenly fire in the United States, as well as other incredible events in relation to the ongoing apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Medjugorje, a town in southwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is in former Yugoslavia. The author discusses the fact that just about one month after the phenomenal heavenly event in the United States in April 1981, Pope John Paul II, now St. John Paul II, was shot by an assassin on the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima, May 13, 1981. The bullets that hit the Holy Father miraculously missed his major organs and arteries, and he attributed the saving of his life to the prayers and intercession of Our Lady of Fatima. Just a little over one month after this event, and no doubt due to the Holy Father's prayers and intercession and pleas to Our Lady, on June 24, 1981, Our Lady first appeared to several young people in Medjugorje as the "Queen of Peace."

The first day of the Medjugorje apparitions occurred on the Catholic liturgical feast day of St. John the Baptist. The reader is reminded that it was John that said of Jesus in Matthew 3:11 "I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire." Our Lady Queen of Peace came with a message in Medjugorje much like John's, saying that she was sent to tell us that God exists, and to call us all to conversion, reconciliation, fasting, prayer and peace.

The author discusses these and other events and ties them together with a historical perspective, providing evidence of the intricate relationship between the events at Fatima and Medjugorje. He also discusses his own experiences, describing graces and other miraculous occurrences he encountered emanating from Our Lady Queen of Peace in Medjugorje. Additionally, he examines a similar aurora borealis/heavenly phenomenon that occurred throughout Europe in January of 1938, related to the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima.

Finally, the author discusses in detail the great mercy and love of God for His children, and the tremendous graces that have been experienced and that are still available to all, through these ongoing apparitions of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Medjugorje.

    Introduction

If you are reading this book then perhaps the name Medjugorje stirs within you great devotion, admiration and love for this beautiful town and for the people there, and especially for Our Lady Queen of Peace, the Blessed Virgin Mary.

I am one of the millions of pilgrims on this journey homeward who have been touched by and indeed saved by to a large extent, the events as they have unfolded since June 1981 in Medjugorje, a town located in southwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is in former Yugoslavia.

This book will not detail the myriad of such events which have transpired and which have influenced millions of pilgrims throughout the world. We will certainly touch upon some of them. There are multitudes of excellent books and other sources which provide this information in great detail. Rather, this volume is intended to convey my own experiences and observations on various aspects of Medjugorje that are, to me, quite astounding in retrospect as well as in anticipating future events related to this beautiful place called Medjugorje.

I hope and pray that this book will bless you in some way, and that Our Lady Queen of Peace will bless and protect you and all of your loved ones, interceding for us all to her Son, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and Our Beloved Father in Heaven. Amen.

    Chapter 1:

    Fire on The Mountain

You may be curious as to what the term Fire on The Mountain, the title of this book, refers to. The elements of this will be laid out as we go along here, but suffice it to say that there are various aspects of Medjugorje that relate to fire in the biblical and spiritual sense which are very profound. In addition, there are actual events that have occurred in Medjugorje and elsewhere in the world, along with other miraculous signs, that center around this theme of fire. I will tie some of these observations together, and when these are assimilated with respect to Medjugorje, they seem quite astounding and illustrate the workings of God’s mighty redeeming hand.

I would first like to go back to discuss several particular events which I have not seen touched upon in the writings I have read concerning Medjugorje with respect to this fire I describe. But let me start by stating that in the early 1980’s, I had come back to the Church in a miraculous way, which I now know was led by Our Lady’s ever-present, gentle hand, to her beloved Son Jesus.

I had been away from the Church for a number of years, first by my own rationalization and desire for other things as a teenager, and later prolonged by my involvement in drugs and ultimately drinking. I was truly caught in a web of destruction, and through the grace of God was able to get completely sober, taking my last drink on March 18, 1980. I have been completely sober and clean until this day, 40 plus years as of this writing. I came home fully to the Church as a part of this prodigal journey in the early 1980’s.

There is no doubt looking back now that Our Lady, and in particular Our Lady Queen of Peace, has methodically, gently led me home with the heart of a loving mother to the peace I had been longing for, thirsting for, in my soul for many years. She has led millions of others as well, and she most certainly will lead you.

Fiery Lights Across the United States

As I stated earlier, in the early 1980’s I was well on my way in my conversion back to the Church after my years of wandering. I read a lot of information on the saints and on Marian apparitions in those early days, devouring books on Fatima, Lourdes, Knock, and all other major apparitions, and a good number of books as well on saints, such as St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Augustine, St. Dominic and others. These inspirational historical stories of heroic faith filled me with an amazement for God and a zeal for holiness.

One day I ran across a small Marian newspaper, and the large headline was about a spectacular event described as an aurora borealis that occurred across the United States. The article was asking the question, what does this all mean? What is this all about, is something about to occur? Obviously, knowing the significance of the aurora borealis that I had read about with the Fatima apparitions, when I read this small paper, I wondered what action of God was approaching or had occurred.

I recall the article in this Marian paper vividly describing how many people reported seeing the fiery, colorful skies, and it was reported, as it were, moving from east to west all across the United States. I also clearly recall that this newspaper stated that it was amazing as each place it moved through, the phenomenon was reported at 9 pm. The image stuck in my mind of this extraordinary aurora borealis, seen from east to west, at 9,9,9 across the whole country. I would not come to know about Medjugorje until sometime after this, but I vividly recalled the small newspaper and those headlines.

What I discovered in later years, when researching further these amazing lights in the sky throughout the United States, is that this aurora borealis took place on April 12, 1981, just a little over two months before the first apparitions at Medjugorje began on June 24, 1981! God was most certainly telling the world great events were about to occur, with other possible prophetic implications as well. The spectacular nature of this event and the eyewitness accounts are astounding.

There were other major events just following this amazing display of heavenly lights. Our beloved Pope John Paul II, now St. John Paul II, was shot on May 13, 1981, about one month later, which was the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima. He repeatedly prayed Mary, my mother; Mary my mother after being shot. He came very near death, and he attributed his survival to Our Lady of Fatima’s intercession in guiding the bullets away from his heart and vital organs. In fact, the saint visited Fatima in the next year, and placed one of the bullets from the assassination attempt in Our Lady’s crown at Fatima. He said to her, You saved me, you saved me.

St. John Paul II would soon become a major advocate of Medjugorje, although necessarily somewhat quietly as the events were being studied. However, there are enough statements heard by others from the pope that showed his strong belief in Medjugorje as the spiritual center of the world. Surely, he recognized after the events of May 13, 1981, and with his subsequent prayers and supplications to Our Lady for her intercession, that she was sent in large part as a result of his prayers to come and help the children of God, just a little over one month after he was shot. St. John Paul II, pray for us!

Reviewing various newspaper accounts of the great phenomena in the skies in the U.S. from April 12, 1981, namely the reporting on the days after, there are many descriptions of not only the event but the fact that it was so unusual as it was seen in places where an aurora borealis is rarely seen. It was repeatedly observed by many with incredible views! The glow was so bright in various places, people thought in some cases it was a fire, and fire trucks were sent, only to find there was no fire after all, but instead a celestial glow of epic proportion. Some thought it was the end of the world or some other cataclysmic event.

The display of heavenly lights was similar to the night promised to Sister Lucia, one of the visionaries of Fatima, her religious name Sister Maria Lucia of Jesus and of the Immaculate Heart, on January 25, 1938. The celestial event at that time was seen throughout Europe, and many who saw it feared the end of the world had come because it was so pronounced. It looked to many witnesses of the event like fire, much like the April 1981 heavenly phenomenon. ¹

This will be discussed more later, but suffice it to say for now that Fatima and Medjugorje are intricately tied together in various ways. Our Lady has stated in Medjugorje that she would be completing the events started at Fatima. She promises the triumph of her Immaculate Heart and an era of peace as
