About this ebook

This book was written with love, kindness and compassion towards the LGBTQ+ community.
Sexuality is a sensitive issue which needs to be handled with care. This aims to avoid unintended outcomes as there are many misconceptions, controversies and emotions that are propagated by hate and ignorance. I would like to invite you as a reader to an honest engagement and demonstration of the love of God through Jesus Christ without prejudice or biases. This book is about the redemption of those who are believed not to be deserving of God’s love due to their sexuality.

Saved by God's love not by sexuality - Xolani Madolo

    Preface

When the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached, it is preached to every group, there is not one gospel for whites, another for blacks, Indians, victims, perpetrators, heterosexuals, homosexuals, etc., but God may commission a person to reach a particular group, for example, minorities, victims of abuse such as rape, human trafficking, depression, rejection, and so on. Someone once said, God will deal with you before He gives you the assignment. I can relate to that statement because after God dealt with my self-righteousness and disdain for gay people. I used to be disgusted by the presence or sight of homosexual people and thought they were not worthy of God’s love, but one day while I was cleaning the garden, God told me that I was saved not because of my heterosexuality but because of His love, and the book was born. Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world, not for a particular group.

For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news! (Rom 10:13-15 [ESV2011])

    Introduction

Many in the LGBTQ+ community do not have a good experience with the church, as many feel they were judged and side-lined by the church. This is unfortunately true, as I have witnessed self-righteousness in some Christians which I also exhibited in the past. Our self-righteousness has built wall between the Gay community and the church, our battle is not the church vs the LGBTQ community but it is winning souls regardless of where they have fall short. The purpose of this book is to reach out to the LGBTQ community because I believe as the church we must make an effort to reach people where they are with the truth and love and to teach the church how to reach out to the LGBTQ without compromising their convictions.

The LGBTQ community doesn’t need to be condemned to hell or to be ill-treated as if they are the worst sinners or are beyond redemption. The book does not only reach out to gay people but also teaches and cautions the society about the politically engineered misconceptions around the issue of sexuality.

Someone may ask, you are saved from what? Apart from eternal damnation we are saved from loneliness, unrest within, and feeling unloved and hopelessness, that why Jesus says come to me if you are weary and burdened I will give you rest.

    Societal pressures and stereotypes

As people, we are created differently, but that is quite a mystery to many people. Traditionally men are defined by masculinity and women are defined by being feminine and that correlates with nature. But we have to acknowledge also that we are not born the same and each has his/her calling, some are born with a disability, some with certain disorders, talents, personalities, etc. as and the sooner we acknowledge that, the better. Due to the fear of the unknown, insecurities, and conformity to what is normal, we tend to be stereotypical about anything that contradicts our normalities.

In our society, if a man or woman exhibits the behavioural, physiological features or personality patterns of the opposite gender, it is usually assumed that they are gay or lesbian but we need to understand that there are straight men who are feminine in nature and straight women who are masculine; and not all masculine men are straight, same goes for a women. This short-sightedness has affected our brothers and sisters negatively because we tend to label them as what
