    About the Author

Dina C Faraday is a fiction writer. She is a reader of science fiction and romance, mythology, philosophy, and wellness literature.

Her debut book The Chaos of Words & Time is storytelling with the fusion of her favorite genres of literature.

Canadian born, she resides in Toronto, Ontario Canada.

Every small town has a little secret; in the enchanting city of New Hope, the river carries a mystical phenomenon.

The river runs through the center of town, dividing it by the east and west side. The town of New Hope is surrounded by cornfields and back roads. The Victorian architecture along the riverside is visually stunning, cascading centuries of history for all to admire.

It all began that summer before I started Columbia university. It was 2014 and one of the hottest July’s I can remember. I have worked every summer at the Salinger’s General Store since I was fifteen – It was my home away from home.

The Salinger’s were the restaurant owners, where Lou and Ray were like family to me, especially after losing my parents, Rebecca and Sal Carmine, almost ten years ago. The Salinger’s loved me like their own daughter, and Trist and Kaya were like siblings to me. We would all spend weekends and holidays together.

The past ten years had been a whirlwind without my parents, and I am so grateful for the Salinger’s being here for me through it all. I worked evenings at the restaurant, and most nights, it was just me working by the end of the night.

In the meantime, I got some time to write. The writing was so liberating; the words flowed through me like I had no choice in the matter; it was just like the water flows with the current. I let my fingers dance along with a blank canvas.

Writing is a passion of mine, but it’s never been my first passion. I decided on a more concise educational path.

My parents would always tell me, Abundance is your birthright Corine, and you are not here by accident; you have many gifts to share with the world. Go make your dreams come true.

I moved through the past ten years without them, and these words play like a vinyl record skipping the same verse of a song. I sometimes thought that my parents were reminding me every day to never give up on my dreams or myself.

My first passion was to help humanity and stand for the world's human injustices, including inequality, racism, bigotry and freedom of speech.

This fall, I started Columbia’s law program and was so excited for this new chapter of my life.

The pace at Salinger’s Cafe would be slower in the evenings, and the customers who came in were either summer tourists or my regular folk in town. However, things never really change much in New Hope.

On a summer night, it was the 1st of July, and approximately ten minutes before closing, a very distinguished man walked in. I had never seen him close up, and there he was, the famous writer from New York city Roman Malone.

The restaurant was quiet, and I had no customers as it was the July 1st "Canada Day festival". I could hear the fireworks outside, and through the window, I saw a glimpse of the sky lit up in celebration.

Roman walked in and sat at the counter. He sat directly in front of me. More handsome than I expected, I thought to myself. He was tall, dark and handsome and a classic presence as if he was from another era. He was much older than me, that was obvious. But he looked like he could pass for thirty.

My eyes connected with his, and it felt as if we had known one another for a moment in time. Like a deja vu, nonetheless, it was something unspoken, and I didn’t understand it at that time.

I greeted him, Hello, how are you tonight?

I’m doing well, thanks. How are you Corine? Replied Roman.

He knew my name, I thought to myself; then realized that I had a name tag on.

I’m having a good night. Happy Canada Day. It has been a quiet evening here with the festivities, I replied.

Roman answered, Happy Canada Day, I’ve just arrived from New York, and I would love to get something to eat.

Unfortunately, the cook has finished work for the night; with the festivities tonight, we just closed the kitchen. However, I have fresh blueberry or apple pie the chef made today? I offered.

That sounds great. Make it apple and a coffee to go, replied Roman.

You got it, and you are welcome to dine in. There is no rush at all, I responded.

Thanks, I guess I’ll dine in then; I appreciate it, Corine. I’m Roman, by the way, he introduced himself.

"Nice to meet you. Are you that famous writer from New York? I excitedly asked.

Well, I don’t know about famous, but yes, I am a writer from Harlem, New York, he replied in gratitude.

Welcome back to New Hope; the town has really become a hub for writers, I stated.

Yes, it is an inspirational place to create something unique. There are many hidden stories within the history of this city. As a writer, breaking down the stories and creating something new from them is the inspiration, Roman continued. My wife Catherine loved it here; I come back here for her every summer, even though she had died many years ago.

I’m so sorry to hear that, Roman, I replied despondently.

"She loved the river here, and a surmountable number of hours would be spent writing and kayaking on the lake together every summer, stated Roman.

I would imagine she would be happy to know you come back here for her, I appreciated his love for his wife.

Yes, it is also time away from New York life. said Roman.

Yes, it makes sense, I continued. I’m actually moving to New York, starting school this fall.

Congratulations, Corine. You will love the city. There is nowhere else like it, He continued. Well, it’s been a long day for me, and I am calling it a night. A pleasure meeting you, Corine, and the pie was delicious, compliments to the chef. Have a good night.

Good night, great to meet you as well, I ended the conversation.

That night, Roman made his way home and became inspired to write a love letter to his wife, Catherine.

    Dearest Catherine,

On this day, I married the most incredible woman, my best friend. It would be our 10th wedding anniversary today. You always loved celebrating our anniversary here, and tonight the fireworks are lighting up the sky for you.

Yes, I am in New Hope tonight. Catherine, you are the love of my life and will always be the love of my life. I would give anything to feel your love once more, just to be in the presence of you. You are the kindest and bravest of hearts of anyone I know. I miss you every day.

I can say with all the life in my body that you are my soulmate. I am one of the luckiest men to have spent my life with you. You have made my life worth living each day, and thinking
