The basics that every web developer needs to know - Marcelo Galhego
PREFACE
––––––––
Cláudio Barizon
More than 30 years ago, in the mid to late 1980s, I heard that the future was in informatics (using the term of the time). And this encouraged me to embrace it as a profession. I went to technical school, then university, and really enjoyed modeling the entities, the database, and especially programming. By then, the transformations were already big and many companies were replacing their mainframes by low platforms. Microcomputing was already taking over and systems started to be developed using client-server architecture. No internet yet, but software development was a promising career with many opportunities and many corporate systems to be created.
Today, we live in a digital world of constant and accelerated transformations. A world of startups, which seek to solve new problems, and established corporations, which are struggling to reinvent themselves and adapt to the behaviors of increasingly volatile and demanding consumers, empowered by their smartphones and an increasingly fast internet. Technology has never been so hot, and so has the demand for development professionals, especially. Each year, the developer deficit only increases here in Brazil, mainly because of globalization and the facilities of remote work, which allow our professionals to work for companies anywhere in the world earning in dollars or euros. So, if 30 years ago informatics was the profession of the future, working with Technology is the present and will certainly remain so for a long time to come.
The opportunities are there and we need to train more and more professionals. It is a journey of knowledge and Marcelo Galhego helps you, with this book, to take the first step. It is very easy to fall into the temptation to start learning a web programming language and make your first websites. However, Marcelo makes you an invitation: start at the beginning and get to know the fundamentals of the World Wide Web. And this understanding is very important for you to become a great developer, as we say nowadays, full-stack.
More than 30 years ago (and here I go again), I met Marcelo. He was my first coordinator in the first internship I did, as a college student already. We worked together for a long time and for 3 different companies. So it is not hard to imagine that after all this time, a lot of teamwork and some inevitable conflicts, we became great friends. But I am not here to write about my friend, but about the great professional he always
