About this ebook

RE-SURGING
by Venilla Rajaguru

A literary volume of 101 poems
A Poetry Classic! A worthy Perennial!

This literary volume is on the grand theme of resurgence in life and love. Universal in thematic appeal, these eclectic poems tackle various moods, sentiments, and experience: burgeoning quests; resurfacing of socio-technical issues; rebounding social practices; and emotional explorations of love, loss, and revival of the Self. The poetic renditions span the sociological, philosophical, and metaphysical dimensions of our human experience. Every poem in this volume is composed to excellent literary standards of meter, rhythm, and rhyme, promising a delightful read.

Venilla Rajaguru displays remarkable mastery of metaphorical stylistics in verse. She excels in social satire just as in her philosophical mode. Her love poems are evocatively sensuous, yet interweaving higher dimensions of communion. Her poems are brilliantly crafted with a story telling approach, and often imbued with a dramatic effect. Her narrative style is captivating. A definite Perennial of literary charm and value.

    Dedication

To my Husband, who endures my long working hours, and willingly supports me in daily chores. Thanks to him I can now focus on many writing projects, including the timely completion of this volume of poetry in 2022.

    Acknowledgement

To you my readers, my heart felt gratitude for your appreciation and love of my poetry. In the 10 years gap between my first poetry book and this second one, many who know me have encouraged me to continue in my poetry writing track, despite me being immersed in doctoral research on oceanic issues and outer space. I also head a business on software solutions for managing intellectual property risks and audit. The demands on my time are immense. But I realize that poetry writing gives me a sense of balance, a welcome break, and increases my creative insights. Now that I’ve done my second book of poems, I can honestly say that the encouragement and moral support I received from my inner circle of readers gave me the much-needed impetus to stay consistent in my daily writing of poems, to be able to work towards this compilation of 101 poems.

Furthermore, this book that you now behold is the outcome of many years of my education in world literatures in schools and colleges. My fondness for literary standards of structured verse with regularity of meter is rooted in my appreciation of English Poetry and several other poetic traditions. I am deeply grateful to all the great teachers who have taught me poetry in schools and colleges in India and at Oxford, U.K. As a teenager, I used to write poems for the love of reciting them to my audience of friends and family. But my serious effort at compiling my more mature poems into a book for publication began with my desire to present my poetry to expanding networks of friends, colleagues, and readers now spread out worldwide across diverse cultures and professional paths.

I owe my heartiest thanks to the publishing coordinators for their critical inputs on book design, and format. My special thanks to my husband for being part of the cover design and imagery discussions. He takes care of daily household chores and errands, sometimes even making lunch for me, so I can focus on my writings. Again, to you my encouraging readers, my networks of peers, social media friends and poetry lovers, to you I owe my consistent practice of writing a poem everyday, and on some days more than one poem, to be able to produce a poetry book for you. In doing so, I have discovered that this consistent habit of writing poetry is therapeutic, joyful, and inspirational. May my poetry now give you joy, solace, and the steady inspiration for uplifting you in your realms of good quests and success.

    Thank You!

    Introduction

What is a poem?. This was a question for discussion in a recent writers meet. It elicited discussions on what qualifies as a poem, about the conceptual basis and the many forms of poetic narration. My answer was, A poem is the heartiest expression of an event or emotion, in its simplest form. In its grandest or most powerful version, a poem can be multivalent: a metaphorical rendition of a philosophical inquiry, a rhythmic deliberation on socio-technical practices, and even effective as a structured rhetoric on sociological issues. A poem can be delivered as a recital or song, if it is written with alliterative rhythm and/or with regular rhyme scheme. This subject of poetic forms and rendition of content is very
