––––––––
This book is written as a quick way to help you learn 500 of the most common GRE vocabulary words. As you read through, you will see the GRE words clearly in bold. In most cases you will be able to gather the meaning right from the context of the sentence or paragraph. In some cases, it may not be as clear. That is why in the back of this book you will find a glossary of every word with its definition for a quick reference. When learning the new word, feel free to circle it and come back to it again later. Pair the word with its context within the book to help you in retaining its meaning.
The chapters are short, easy to read, and packed with vocabulary. This is to help you learn as much as possible in the shortest amount of time. You can try to read everything in one sitting or space it out over a series of days, maybe reading one chapter a night. As you read, feel free to write the words that were tricky for you at the end of each chapter, trying to remember each meaning. Take a break and allow the new words to sink into your consciousness. When you come back to read the next chapter, review the vocabulary from the last chapter and see if any of these new words are still tricky to remember. You can either wait to move on until you feel confident with each word, or you can save those words that still stump you for the list you make at the end of your next chapter. You can also review each list as you read through and upon the completion of the book, until you've mastered all this new vocabulary.
To achieve maximum study results, when you have completed the book, feel free to read through the entire list of vocabulary at the end of the book. Cross out the words you know you don't need to study. Circle any that are still hard to remember. The page number of where you can find that word in the story follows the definition. Look it up and use the context within the story to help with remembering the definition. You can also make flash cards of any final words that aren't quite sticking. Make it the word of the day. Make it your screen saver, status update, or joke with your friends about it. The more you see and use the word the easier it will be to remember on test day.
Good luck and happy studying!
