Book 1 - Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook

Perfect Bariatric-Friendly Recovery Diet After Gastric Bypass (Lifelong Eating, Puree, Maintain Weight Loss, Skinny)

    1 - Introduction

I want to thank you and congratulate you for buying this book.

This book contains proven steps and strategies on how to understand what to do after undergoing gastric bypass surgery. This contains information that will help you in coping with the changes and in learning what to do as the healing process progresses.

This book has a wide variety of recipes that are suited for every stage of the healing process. This teaches you about meals and dishes that you can come up with in order to maintain weight loss and make sure that you will benefit from the process for a long time.

Thanks again for buying this book, I hope you enjoy it!

2 - An Overview about the Gastric Bypass Surgery

Known as the most invasive weight loss procedure, the gastric bypass surgery offers the most efficient technique to losing weight. This is ideal for people who are obese or overweight with above 40 Body Mass Index or BMI. Patients at this rate are tagged as morbidly obese.

They are likely suffering from weight-related health problems, which include sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. If you are at this point in your life, the surgery will not only help you lose weight to look good and feel better about yourself but most importantly, it can improve your health and the quality or your life.

The procedure creates a new stomach pouch that is the same size as an egg or a golf ball. A smaller pouch will limit the amount of food that you can take. With a smaller stomach, you will feel less hungry and would only crave to eat smaller portions. The surgery attaches a part of the small intestine to the new pouch.

This allows food to bypass most of the small intestine. As a result, the body absorbs a limited amount of nutrients and calories. This is the main cause of the weight loss – the food that you eat is absorbed less readily by the body.

Before the surgery, your medical team will ask you to follow a pre-operative diet to reduce the size of your liver. The operation is life-changing. Once done, you will modify your dietary habits to last a lifetime. Your surgeon will advise you to follow a staged gastric bypass diet. You will begin with a full liquid diet and it will gradually progress until you are on a normal diet.

Through the dietary changes, your medical team will guide you and tell you when it is safe to progress. They will also give you supplements and medications to make the process of healing faster. You will also be given vitamins, supplements, and minerals that you can take for the rest of your life.

It is important to remember that since your body will be taking in fewer calories, you have to choose the right food to eat in order to maintain a healthy and balanced diet.

    3 - The Healing Process

It will take up to 8 weeks for your pouch to completely heal. Planning your meals is important. Your goal is not only to lose weight but also to keep your lean body mass or muscles. Each meal must contain high amounts of protein and low amounts of sugar and fat.

After the operation, your pouch is like that of a baby and it can only absorb liquid and pureed items during the first weeks. This is the purpose of this book – so that you would know what to eat depending on what level you are in.

As you progress in the diet, you can still eat the food items from the previous stages. Whenever you find it hard to tolerate a food item, eliminate it first from your diet for a couple of weeks before reintroducing it to your daily diet.

    The Mindful Eating Technique

You will apply this eating technique before and after the surgery. Be always mindful not only of what you eat but how you do it. Consume your food at least 30 minutes or longer, especially in the first weeks following the surgery. Take your time in chewing your food to
