PART I
IN THE HEART OF AN ISLAND . . .
N OT TOO FAR into the distant past, I found myself caught in a web of intrigue that would change my life forever. I was growing in an island that was implicated in all sorts of customs; voodoo and poverty trooped like twin pairs that disrupted the people’s livelihood. I was struggling to make sense of any of them all. I liked to read as much as I enjoyed asking questions. It was through questioning that I learned how the populaces mainly the Tainos and Alkebulans initiated on the island in the first place. Now, my goal was to eradicate the intricacies of voodoo from the people’s mindset that bankrupted the country I was born in.
At an early age, I was smarter, more docile, and more apt than the other boys in the city where I grew up. While my peers enjoyed playing with toys and destroying them in the process, I declined to be any part of it; instead, I would prefer to sit beside Pekles, my sexagenarian’s father to schoolwork global history. Clearly, I wanted more than that, I would prefer someone I could rely on to teach me what I needed to know to pursue my objective. "Can the loas really speak, smell, eat, and
