Mission Possible: Vision of a Leader
()
About this ebook
This is not a fictional novel, but a story based on how a vision of a dynamic leader can change the destiny of a nation.
This book entails the success story of the Indian resilience against all the odds. It is a saga of determination of people of India under the visionary leadership of a dynamic Prime Minister to make a ‘mission impossible’ to a ‘mission possible’. Alongwith many, I was lucky to witness this historic achievement from a very close range. The book is primarily divided into two parts; one pertaining to participation of Indian people under the leadership of the PM in making an impossible mission to make India clean to a possible mission and in the second part, it is showcased how the efforts of the Indian people to preserve water resources and to have safe drinking water at the door steps to make ourselves a healthy nation as envisioned by the same visionary Prime Minister of India.

MISSION POSSIBLE: VISION OF A LEADER
(SUCCESS OF SBM AND ON GOING IMPLEMENTATION OF JJM)
Preface
The second part is more interesting as, though everyone is dependent on water for survival; none cared for preservation and optimum use of water even few years ago. But it is rapidly changing in the minds of ordinary people of India.
This book will showcase the change of Indian mindset towards cleanliness and access to safe toilets and safe drinking water from 1947 to 2014 and then 2014 onwards as observed by a person who has come to Delhi from a village of Assam.
It is a harsh reality that except few elites of India, most of the Indians who took birth before the advent of 21st century have experiences of humiliation of defecating in open at least once in one’s life time. A young dynamic lady District Magistrate of Assam shared her terrible traumatic experience with me how she had to go for open defecation while on an official tour to a tribal village under her own jurisdiction. Yes, I have experienced that many times in my life though I can boast; I was blessed to be a member of a rural family of Assam who had individual toilet much before my birth in 1962. However, tap connection for drinking water had been installed in December, 2020 after JJM was implemented in Assam from 2019 alongwith other parts of the country.
I am indebted to our Hon’able Prime Minister to make all of us realize that it is one of the most important duties for all of us to make clean surroundings around us.
I am thankful to my senior colleague, Shri Bharat Lal, the first MD of JJM to give me the idea of writing a book on implementation of SBM and JJM without burdening with official statistics and without following the style of official reporting. Taking a cue from his suggestion I tried to write this book from the views of the common men on the streets. Therefore only photographs of the Hon’ble PM on important events, photographs some of the celebrities taking part of cleanliness programmes organized by Government or by NGOs, photographs of some of JJM projects and photographs people’s participation in both the schemes are given in this book. However, intentionally names with photograph (s) of any individual senior officer(s) while taking part in any of the events are not given, as in my opinion; none of us has done anything beyond our official duties though many may differ on this point of argument of mine. By doing so if I hurt sentiments of some of the senior officers, who may think otherwise, I apologize from the core of my heart.
The fictional characters of Mr. Rao and Govind Vihari are introduced in the book so that the book does not become another Government report on implementation of SBM and JJM. The personal relation portrayed in the book between Mr. Rao and Govind Vihari and the situations created around them are far from the ground reality. If a reader finds any resemblance with any living or dead persons with these two characters, personal relations between them and the situations around them, it may be mere coincidence only.
Thanks to my readers and friends and above all my family members for their constant support to write something usual and unusual. I love them all.

Chapter I: Curtain Raiser-The Historical Day
15th August is one of the most important days for each and every Indian of Independent India. After 1947 till 2014, 15th August became a day of performing a ritual where Prime Minister of India delivers a lecture from the podium of Red Fort giving a list of policies of the Government India which were to be implemented in the next year or in the next few years. In fact, unfortunately nobody takes those policy declarations very seriously including the implementing authorities and agencies of the Central Government and State Governments. Had it been taken seriously by the implementing agencies of the Governments, India would have been a super power by the end of the last century. Because of this attitude of the Government agencies over the years, Indian people also became habituated to think that the lecture delivered by the Prime Minister is a ‘list of should be for the nation’ but definitely not a ‘list of to be implemented by the Government’. Therefore, it became a ritual to be conducted by all the parties only to be forgotten till announcement of another set of policy formulations on the next year’s Independence Day. All the important agencies of the Government were asked to prepare a ‘list of should be done for the nation’ using excellent catchy English which should be translated into Hindi for the PMs of Hindi Belt or otherwise may be kept as it was.
All the suave PMs of India till that epoch making lecture on 15th August, 2014 of the present Hon’ble PM, used to talk on some issues normally 90% of the Indian population could not understand what he or she was speaking about except something on ‘Jai Jawan–Jai Kisan’ and ‘Garibi Hatao.’ As a result of that, the Prime Minister’s twenty point programmes formulated in the seventies crossed more than twenty years (actually more than forty years) without much progress. So nothing was expected from the New Prime Minister also on 15th August, 2014 by the common people of India. But on that day Hon’ble PM, Shri Narendra Damodardas Modi stunned not only the suave Indians but also the entire world by saying something which 90% Indians could easily understand and felt they got a PM from among themselves; hitherto all the PMs except two were from a different planet, many common people thought in that way only.
To substantiate my argument let us go through the list of Prime Ministers who had served our country earlier, except two, one from NDA, Late Atal Bihari Bajpayee (for six years, son of a primary school teacher who pushed for infrastructure development in India) and the other one, Late Lal Bahadur Shastri (1.5 year, son of a poor farmer who pressed for upliftment of Kisan who toil their day to feed the nation and the soldiers fighting at the border and evolved the slogan, Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan Hail the farmers-hail the soldiers). Our first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru (17 years) was the son of Pt Motilal Nehru, who was reportedly the first Indian to import a car for personal use. Though Guljarilal Nanda became two times interim Prime Minister of India, normally most of the Indian people do not consider him as a Prime Minister of India. The third Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi was the political heir and daughter of the first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Nehru. After emergency, Late Morarjee Desai became the Prime Minister of India for 2.5 years who was also from a very rich businessmen family of Gujarat. The Prime Ministers of less than one year period, Late Choudhury Charan Singh (19 days, extremely rich farmer of Western UP), Late V. P. Singh (11 months, known as Raja Sahab, king of a princely state), Late Chandra Sekhar (five months, Bhondse Baba of Balia), Deve Gowda (11 months, an extremely rich farmer of Karnataka), Late Inder Kumar Gujaral (10 months, son of a Cabinet Minister of Nehru Cabinet), all were from rich families. Similarly, other three Prime Ministers, viz. Late Rajeev Gandhi (5 years, son of Smti. Indira Gandhi and grandson of Pt. Nehru), Late Narasimha Rao (5 years, extremely rich person of undivided Andhra Pradesh) and Shri Manmohan Singh (10 years, an Oxford/ Cambridge illumine) are three aristocrat Prime Ministers of India. Undoubtedly, the post of Prime Minister of India has been occupied mostly from elite class of India, whose bathrooms cum toilets are costlier than the residential accommodations of 95% Indians. So they had never ever talked about the construction of toilets in public; probably they thought it was below the dignity of a Prime Minister of India to talk about construction of toilets in public, that too on Independence Day from the wall of the Red Fort.
On that day, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Modiji said something about the basic need of at least 50% of the total population
