About this ebook
Divine Light
Divine is a very loving and caring individual who used his God-given gifts to give hope, comfort, encouragement, and love to every rider he encountered while driving for Uber. In this book, he shares some of those divine encounters with riders who needed some TLC. Divine started driving when he was a minister and later on became ordained as a pastor. However, he rarely mentioned to his riders that he was a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ because he wanted his riders to feel like they were opening up to a good friend instead of a minister or pastor. He wanted to positively impact the lives of his passengers in humility and meekness.

"Thank you for driving us last night. You were
awesome. Hope to see you again soon my man."
My name is Divine Light. I drove for Uber predominantly in the five boroughs of New York City. I migrated to the US from Georgetown, Guyana, with my little sister when I was fourteen years old. My mom came up a year afterward. I went to Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn. After graduating, I faced a few obstacles in finding a job and going to college. However, with the help of God and much perseverance, I ended up going to the Borough of Manhattan Community College. I studied business management, but because of some financial setbacks, I was unable to complete my studies.
I worked for quite a few companies, but it seemed as though I was not growing. I got tired of empty promises, hatred from coworkers and $1 raises. Some of you who are reading this book might be able to relate to my story. If you can relate, please keep reading because you might gain some insight on what to do. The truth is that I have no problem working hard; however, if you can’t see the fruits of your labor in the job that you’re doing, then why stay there. I remembered praying to God and asking Him to bless me with a different job and He would, but at the end of the day, those jobs that I wanted ended up being unfulfilling. Then my prayer began to change. I remember praying and asking God that I work for Him because I was tired of working for mankind. I knew that Jesus Christ was all-powerful and that there is nothing impossible for Him to do, so if I was working for Him, then I would have the best boss in the world.
U Were Divine We Loved U, Thank U
God then instructed me to leave the company that I was currently working for, which He had to do twice. The first time he told me to quit, I was hesitant because I didn’t have a backup plan. However, at that time, my apostle, Apostle King was driving for Uber, so he introduced the idea to me and a few others. I then made this my backup plan, so I began the process by applying for a TLC license. Not too long after applying God instructed me to leave my job again without any response from the TLC office. I knew that He would never lead me on the wrong path so I gave them my letter of resignation, which included my final two weeks, and began walking by faith.
After completing the two weeks and being home for about three weeks I decided to call the TLC office to check on the status of my application, and the young lady that I spoke with said my application was approved on such a date. I was so grateful. The approval date that she told me was so significant because it was my last day at the company that I had resigned from. This encouraged my faith a whole lot. At that time, I didn’t even have the proper vehicle to drive for Uber, so I connected with a Jewish guy who rented out cars and whose name is Mr. Avi. He would walk into the Uber office like he owned the joint. Needless to say, he had a lot of connections. I rented a Lincoln Town & Country from him for $350 a week. I rented it for just over a year, and then I was able to buy my own vehicle. I bought a Suburban. Just about five months into driving for Uber I got a call from a friend who I had worked with at the company that I resigned from, and he informed me that the company’s new owners were closing down the Long Island office where we were working at and were getting rid of 90 percent of the employees. Inside, I said, Thank you, Jesus, that I left the second time you told me to leave.
Thank you Divine! Exceptional service with a genuine smile! I wish I could give 10 stars!!
Sometimes, we might not fully understand God’s instructions but when we follow through, He will eventually grant us revelation. Trusting God’s voice, whether He’s speaking internally or externally, is the best thing any individual can do. Sometimes, as humans, we can become complacent or comfortable in a job, and that can cause us to lose sight, courage, or the tenacity to accomplish our goals and dreams. I want to encourage you to never lose sight of your dreams and regardless of what obstacles might stand in your way, just keep on pressing forward. Obstacles help to mold character, create strength, develop patience, and grace you with an appreciation for the journey.
If I were ever your Uber driver, it was a privilege to have met you, and maybe our encounter will be in this book, so keep reading. Over the years of being an independent contractor with Uber, I went from driving Uber X and Uber pool to Uber XL, black, and SUV. I’ve completed over 8,700 trips and I’ve managed to maintain a 4.98 rating. I’ve encountered the good, the bad, and the ugly. I’m going to share some of those divine encounters with you.
However, before I do so, I want to thank God for the privilege of being able to work with Uber. Despite the many changes that have taken place with the company over the years, I can joyfully say that Uber has been a blessing. Uber is definitely a game-changer in the taxi industry. Although taxis have been around for years, Uber has transformed the industry by adding technology and hardworking business-minded men and women. Uber offered liberation from the regular 9 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and the independence to earn by choice. Uber wasn’t like other companies that treat its contractors like they owned them by controlling most aspects of an individual’s life. Other companies tell you when to come and when to leave when you can take time off, and when you can’t. Some companies even have individuals show up to work when they’re sick and if they don’t, they can potentially lose their job. They even control your pay. I’ve never liked working for anyone. To me, it limits the liberty of one’s life and true earning potential.
Divine was an absolute gift to my family during our trip. HE is the epitome of a five star driver! I wish I had ten stars!
Uber is totally different, you can go and come as you like. You can set a limit of how much you’d like to earn and then pursue it. If you’re sick, you can stay home or go out, the choice is all yours. To be honest, I wish that I was the one to come up with such a brilliant idea. However, over the years that I’ve been with Uber, the company has changed in some aspects. In my eyes, it went from leading all the technological upgrades and other features for all the driving apps to being a follower in some areas. I think that once you’re a leader, you should do your best to continue leading. I’m not saying that leaders cannot follow, but a good leader must have discernment of what to follow or who to follow so that they can be better leaders.
One of the unfavorable changes that Uber made was the change in the fare. Although it drew people that would have otherwise taken a yellow cab or some other form of transportation, it depreciated the value of the driver and significantly changed drivers’ earnings. When you lower your standards, it’s difficult to raise them again. In this case, it was lowering the price. Drivers had to work twice as hard to make their target daily earnings.
Another unfavorable change that took place over time was that drivers had to reserve hours to drive, and if you didn’t, you couldn’t go online unless there was a surge in the area that you were driving in at the moment. I believe that this change came as a result of the Taxi and Limousine Commission updating the rules and regulations for app-base taxi services. I think that the TLC was hating on Uber’s success, but that’s just my opinion. I could be wrong.
Thank you my brother
Apart from those unfavorable changes, one of my favorite things about the Uber app was that it allowed both driver and rider to rate each other. I would normally give my passengers 5- star rating; however, there were some instances when I had to give some of them a 1-star rating, and for others, I wish that there was a minus 5-star rating. These passengers were few, but they were either rude, disrespectful, too bossy, or thought that they owned me and my truck. These passengers were worthy of ratings below one star. I even had to ask some riders to step out before
