John, first things first, give us some background on yourself as a motocross racer.
This is the part where I wish I could rattle off a bunch of epic achievements, which, to be honest, I always thought I’d be able to do. However, it wasn’t supposed to be.
I was a consistent top-10 national MX and SX Lites racer from 2013-2018, winning NSW state titles and numerous open/local events, yet I couldn’t seem to ever make it on the nationals scene. Not to say that a top-10 national rider isn’t an achievement; I just felt for the effort I put in and the dedication I had to the sport, it was hard to justify just being a top-10 guy.
In 2019, I earned a 450 ride with Team Suzuki, which at the time I considered a dream come true. Months later it only proved that the grass isn’t always greener. It was halfway through the 2019 MX season when I knew I needed to step away from the team and racing.
