    VISITING AJ

My name is Alison. I had almost reached London, Kentucky. I'd driven a few hours from Louisville where my girlfriend was visiting her daughter. They were going to have a mother/daughter bonding night at the orientation. I decided to do something a little different.

It was over a year ago and I had met AJ online and we quickly struck up a rapport. She was, at first blush, exactly the opposite of the women I had dated. She described herself as 'butch' or a 'super dyke' and mentioned her short hair. I had always been with more girly girls. I was girly as well.  I liked cute dresses and looking pretty and loved how my long hair framed my face.

And yet in about a year the pull to her was tangible. It no longer mattered what she looked like. I knew HER and she knew me. And what was inside her drew me ever closer. I saw past her attempts at being gruff and saw inside. She was a spongecake that was almost as emotional as I was, without the bouts of anxiety and crying. The fact that her wife was at home was another factor increasing my anxiety.

We had never even exchanged pictures. This was something I just couldn't do. My anxiety would flare up
