    CHAPTER ONE

    VAUGHN

A woman? Dax growled, narrowing his gray eyes as he sprawled naked on the master bed.

Vaughn did his best to ignore the sexy distraction of other man’s powerful and very nude body. Don’t make me repeat myself. You’re a werewolf. You heard me the first time I said it.

Dax might be an alpha wolf, but that had never stopped Vaughn from speaking his mind. This was too important to mince words or play games.

Dax grunted. "You’re crazy then. Next you’re gonna tell me you need a human woman."

    How did you guess?

Vaughn Gresham did his best to ignore his lover’s growling curses. It was mostly bluster anyway, but ignoring Dax would’ve been easier if he were clothed. The man was tanned over every inch of his tall, muscular body. Dax Rowan was a perfect male specimen, with bed-tousled black hair begging to be pushed away from his chiseled face. His eyes were an uncanny shade of gray that seemed to look straight through a man to his heart. Part of that was Dax’s innate power as an alpha. Even without a pack, his wolf’s intensity and strength didn’t diminish.

And right now, Vaughn looked exactly like him. A perfect twin thanks to magic. So admiring Dax was almost narcissism since Vaughn appeared identical to the alpha wolf.

He swallowed a curse. Magic was powerful, but it could be unpredictable. Now he and Dax were reaping the consequences. Months later, Vaughn was still dealing with the fallout of a mage choosing to become a werewolf to enhance his magic and losing everything about himself. How he looked. How his voice sounded. His scent. Everything.

He made a poor wolf too when compared to Dax, even though he was a mirror physical image. What kind of werewolf couldn’t shift into a wolf?

Disgusted with himself, Vaughn left the bedroom for his dressing room without another word. The opulent, twenty-plus-thousand square-foot mansion with its seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms was large enough to house a small pack, although it was only the two of them here. The mansion belonged to Vaughn. The expensive cars belonged to Vaughn. Dax had sexual charisma and power in spades, but he was a lone wolf in his soul. Or he had been before finding Vaughn. Now things were a mess.

Vaughn had never intended to take a werewolf as a lover. Especially not an alpha wolf like Dax with all those lone wolf tendencies mated to an ego the size of Houston. But when did his life ever go as planned?

Vaughn. Dax’s tone held the rough edge of a growl, a common sound from him, in bed and out. He crossed his arms and leaned against the doorway of the dressing room. Don’t ignore me.

Vaughn ignored him. Instead of saying anything, he turned and caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror. Even after all this time, the sight of his new body was always a shock. Vaughn Gresham had been the toast of Houston’s social scene once. The blond god who had only to crook his finger at any woman or man to get what he wanted. Life had put him in his place with this twisted joke.

    No, not life. Magic.

You are a handsome devil. Dax flashed him a smug half-smile. He sauntered closer in a fluid motion that suggested every movement was as careless as it was calculated. Wrapping his big hand around the back of Vaughn’s neck, Dax peered into the mirror at the two of them. I happen to love the way you look.

He snorted. You’re an arrogant bastard, you know that?

That made Dax laugh. You’re right. He pressed closer, his naked body right up against Vaughn’s. But I have a good reason to be.

Vaughn felt a torrent of emotions rush through his body as Dax’s bare skin caressed against his. He could feel Dax’s cock, the length of it beginning to harden even though they’d fucked only a moment ago. The alpha wolf’s ability to get hard within minutes of ejaculation was something Vaughn wished he could bottle and sell to the average male. He’d make a fortune.

Not that Vaughn didn’t have a fortune already. Which brought him to the most important problem of their current situation. Meeting Dax’s slate-gray eyes in the mirror, Vaughn refused to allow his libido to respond to the feel of his lover’s hands on his body or his hard, warm cock pressing against his ass.

Looking like you isn’t going to cut it anymore, he warned.

Dax kissed his neck, his big arms slipping around his waist. It has so far. But now you want to bring in a woman. As if to punish him, Dax nibbled ever so lightly at the curve of Vaughn’s ear, making him exhale a breath of pure pleasure. That was one of those spots that got his body going every time.

The world believes that I’m Dax Clayton because that’s who I look like, Vaughn said in a low, rough voice. He forced himself to concentrate, despite what Dax’s lips were doing to him. But it’s Vaughn Gresham who has the money. Vaughn Gresham owns the house, the land, the cars, the helicopter, the vacation homes in Monte Carlo and Paris.

"So you’re rich and handsome, Dax said, now pressing his erect cock against the crack of Vaughn’s ass. One of his hands came up to tease one of Vaughn’s nipples until it stood up hard and tight and he had to swallow a moan. Good for you."

So people are starting to wonder where the reclusive rich bachelor is. No one’s seen my real face in almost a year. That’s a problem.

Dax met his gaze in the mirror. His gray eyes gleamed. He looked amused. People are sheep. They’ll believe what they’re told.

Neither of us wants the human authorities sniffing around. How awkward would it be if I was arrested for murdering myself?

Damn it. Vaughn wished Dax would take the problem a little more seriously. It wasn’t in Dax’s nature to worry about being challenged because he was always confident he would win. That was both a blessing and a curse, and it got them into trouble far more than a warlock turned werewolf like Vaughn could ever be comfortable with. Vaughn had been powerful before being bitten and becoming a werewolf, but he’d always had a warlock’s strategic mind.

Dax rarely gave a damn about anything.

Now Dax gently bit into the muscle at the base of Vaughn’s neck. The bite was both mild pain and erotic pleasure. Vaughn struggled to hold back a groan, but it didn’t do any good. Dax knew. He could smell the arousal that seeped into each vein in Vaughn’s body.

Dax was the sort of lover that could become your personal brand of addiction. Insatiable, creative, and always ready to make you feel so incredible that you were actually weak with pleasure.

Struggling with his own desire, Vaughn fought to remind himself that he had to be sensible here. He was the head of a financial empire that spanned continents and centuries. That empire could largely run itself, thanks to the people he’d put in place, but he was aware of the lingering questions. No one but Dax knew Vaughn was a wolf. No one but Dax knew Vaughn was trapped in a doppelganger body indistinguishable from the alpha’s form. But this had put everything at risk. The Greshams were powerful witches and warlocks that had spanned centuries. The idea that Vaughn’s family could be brought to ruin by one risky experiment with a werewolf was hard to imagine.

Hard to imagine, but still a very real possibility.

Dax grinned and pumped his hips ever so slightly, the long length of his cock was nestled right in the crevice of Vaughn’s ass. Blood surged to Vaughn’s groin, his own cock stirring. He had only come a few moments ago. He didn’t need sex again this soon.

And yet, here he was, getting turned on all over again. He wanted to curse Dax and shove him away…but he didn’t. He never did. Maybe he never would.

Dax, Vaughn said almost desperately. We’re too close to finding a way to break this curse to stop now. Aren’t you tired of fucking a mirror image of yourself?

It was a ridiculous thing to say, but it had the desired effect. Dax let go of Vaughn and threw his head back to laugh. The sound was incredible. Deep and full and originating in Dax’s belly as if he laughed in the same no-holds-barred way he lived the rest of his life.

Fine, Dax replied with a lingering smirk. You want to break this curse? We’ll break the stupid curse.

Vaughn let out a long exhale. Thank God.

Dax chuckled darkly. "I should be insulted that you’re so relieved. You got what you wanted. I’m the one
