About this ebook

Are ghosts real? What are they?

When the shadow figure manifested on film, I had no idea it would lead to "The Big 5," which is the evidence found in every haunting. However, none of the evidence means anything unless we can explain it, and until now, we couldn't.

The Paranormal Hammer - Bobbie L Brown

    Preface

I don’t know why I awoke, but when my young eyelids opened, the devil hovered inches above my face. It was the ugliest thing I’d ever seen, and I could not move or scream. It only said a few words, If you scream I’ll take your soul.

I was trying with all my might to scream, but no sound came forth and only the rushing of air escaped my throat. I was screaming for my mom and dad, who were sound asleep in their room, directly above mine. At his words I stopped. He hovered over me in silence while looking me over. When it seemed I might be losing my fear, or he’d gotten too far from my face, he would stick his face back in mine.

I don’t know how long this went on, and my ten year old mind, which once was paralyzed in fear, came up with the only thing it could; I began to laugh.

Although I couldn’t scream, my laugh was loud and clear. The thing instantly cocked its head sideways, much like a dog. I continued to force my laugh. It soon started moving away, almost like it was drifting, and disappeared in the corner of the ceiling. Forty years later, I still remember the look of disbelief on its face.

I have never forgotten my first paranormal encounter, and really didn’t understand, that is what happened. Years later, here I am, a paranormal investigator.

I started like everyone else, What is the paranormal and when can I have an encounter? I did not know, however, that even though I’d already crossed the encounter bridge during this episode, I didn’t know anything about the paranormal.

I’m also a follower of Jesus Christ. I know Jesus loves me, but if I love Him, is the paranormal taboo? This was a question I had to answer with no shade of doubt. Instead of being convicted of heresy, or forgetting the whole thing, I felt strongly compelled to seek out the truth.

It is such a privilege to be able to finally bring understanding, and clarity, to such a convoluted subject. I couldn’t be more excited for you to discover what I’ve discovered. Along the way to finding out what the paranormal is, we’re going to find out some amazing things about life, death, and even the afterlife.

Come with me on a journey that actually explains what a ghost is, and even why it’s there. What we will discover in the truth, may relieve many of our fears, doubts, and questions- not just about the paranormal- but ourselves.

    New to Me

I must have driven by that sign a hundred times:

Jim’s Junkyard: Lamborghinis new and used, special financing available!

I had no desire to own a Lamborghini, and would never spend the money on one, but the sign meant I might be able to give one a drive. What would it be like?

Like a dripping faucet as you’re laying in bed; the sign began to wear me down. Finally the temptation overcame me. I hit the brakes and swung into the dusty gravel parking lot. I knew if my wife found out, my heart wouldn’t be the only thing pounding.

When I walked into the office and met Jim, he did not impress me as an overly clean individual, but I was sure he had a sleek, new Lamborghini I could test drive.

Come on with me, she’s right out here. he said, as he hoisted his drooping pants and headed for the door. As we rounded the corner, he stopped. Jim’s shoulders straightened, and his chest puffed out in pride as he folded his arms, and gave a nod in the general direction of a wreck.

    There she is.

I knew there had to be a mistake. Where are the new ones? I asked.

Well… Jim said, as he pulled out his can of chewing tobacco and filled his bottom lip beyond capacity, It’s new to you.

What in the world made me go into a place like this, looking for something that was highly unlikely to be there?

Can the same be said about the paranormal? Where are we looking for the truth? Jim certainly had a Lamborghini. It was used, and there’s no doubt it was new to me, but the truth was nowhere to be found.

It seems people have been looking for the answer to the paranormal since the beginning, but the truth has eluded us. There is something in us that desires truth. We hate being lied to. We know that our work requires truth. We also know our relationships require truth, and our science requires truth.

In these things we generally know where to find this truth, but in the paranormal, we have missed the mark again and again. How long are we going to wander around Jim’s junkyard looking for that new Lamborghini?

What is the paranormal? Are there answers to this most haunting question? If there are answers, how can we know these answers are true? Is there a reason for paranormal activity? If we are suffering from paranormal activity, is there any hope, or a cure?

With so many theories, where does one begin? How do we untangle the paranormal mess in a few pages, and what have I discovered that is different from anyone else?

As you read this book you will find it probably doesn’t sound like anything you’ve heard in the paranormal world, or probably even considered. You will be presented with facts, however, and not speculation, so that you may have real answers.

Regardless of what your interest in the paranormal is, and whether you’re an investigator, afflicted by it, or just curious; this book will present the truth.

In this chapter we will learn some things necessary to hearing, understanding, and discerning the truth. These foundations, or fundamentals, are critical to prepare us for accepting the truths we will discover.

What about you, the reader; what’s your part in this? I ask you to carefully consider what you read, and investigate the claims being made. It is important to own our beliefs by backing them up with real facts. Why? I thought you’d never ask.

Say there are two chairs with the backs to a cliff, and they are positioned only inches from the edge. Thousands of feet below is the sudden stop that ends the fall. We have to decide which chair we’re going to sit in.

The chair on the left is beautifully crafted, with fantastic details and sturdy-looking legs. It also has large armrests that look like they would wrap us up safely. The chair on the right is very simply made, with no etching, or ornate designs, and it has no arm rests.

There is no rope or tether to keep us from tipping off the cliff, if our chair doesn’t hold up. Let’s choose wisely.

After careful study you go to the chair on the left and grab the armrest to test its strength. The piece you grab crumbles in your hand, and closer study reveals that the armrest was made of potato chips.

Now you start to poke around the beautiful chair, only to find that each time you test it, it crumbles; a complete fraud, that could have cost your life. Meanwhile, I test the chair on the right; solid oak.

At some point every person is going to sit in one of these chairs. It must happen, even though we may not think about it, and we will never know exactly when it’ll be our turn. We spend our lives picking our chair, but how much of our lives do we spend testing it? That’s what we’re going to do in this book, as we discover the truth of the paranormal. Although, before we start poking the chair, we must know how.

There are a couple fundamentals necessary, which will help you understand more clearly how to process the information we discover.

Fact or opinion, and the relationship between the two:

A fact is proven or has been approved. A fact can only come from evidence, or testimony that is supported by evidence: We need oxygen to breathe.

An opinion can come from anywhere. It doesn’t need basis or reason: I don’t like oxygen. An opinion has only the view of the giver, and may not be shared by anything, or anyone.

    Truth:

Truth is. There is no such thing as relative truth. Relative truth declares: Your truth isn’t my truth. Relative truth is the denial of truth so one may justify their opinion, or belief. If the facts don’t support the claim, it can’t be truth. There is truth, and there is everything else.

Is truth dependent on our point of view? No. There is one truth, but our point of view gives us our opinion of that truth. If a plane drops a bomb, the bomb is the truth. Whether you’re the person looking down at it, or up at it, will decide your opinion of it.

The truth is able to be tested. It must be evidence supported, which means, the truth will not contradict any of the known characteristics of our evidence. It also isn’t allowed to disregard any of the characteristics of the evidence.

    Belief:

Belief is a conviction based on what we accept. One may hear the truth, see the truth, and experience the truth, but if a person doesn’t accept it, their belief cannot be based on it. On the other hand, if one has never heard the truth, what then must their beliefs be based on?

How do we come by truth? Let’s use a courtroom as an example. The object of the trial is to discover the truth, so a decision can be made as to the outcome.

When you are a juror, you hear different arguments in favor of one side or the other. Your job is to decide the truth by weighing the evidence, deciphering the arguments, and using the testimony of witnesses. These must all work together.

Truth can only be decided using the most probable explanation, which is based on the most compelling evidence and believable testimony. We must weigh explanations, against the circumstantial and physical evidence, to ensure the explanation doesn’t violate the evidence.

As a member of the jury, you must make a decision, and that decision will have some serious consequences for someone. Let’s hope it isn’t you.

How are fact, truth, and belief related? Let’s take a universal fact and examine it. Death is a fact. Our everyday lives, however, ask, What about life? This is the paranormal realm: deception.

Life says, I see, I feel, I am, this is, and this is all. My heart is beating therefore I am alive. Because of these things, life tells us over and over again, that death is not real. It tells us that death is far away, and we do not have to worry about it.

Life tells us that our possessions are to be our focus, while the truth of death, will without fail take them away. Life tells us that power is to be sought at all cost; the truth of death takes all power away. Life even tells us, we have power over death, until death comes.

What life tells us affects our belief. Our belief then becomes based on the deception of life…. rather than the truth of death.

Many of you reading this have known either friends or relatives who have died, and you have seen the truth. Sometimes death comes after a long life and old age. It can also come after a long illness, or even after a horrific event or suicide. Nevertheless, in all cases, the life that was in that body ended.

Death is a universal fact and a universal truth, so getting our beliefs lined up with it is critical. Later in the book we will discover death, but the purpose here, is to understand how deception works: by taking our focus off the truth. Whether we think the paranormal is real, fake, or imaginary, our beliefs about it have been based on the deception of life, rather than the truth of death.

We’ve talked about the truth, but what is a lie? Above all, how can we know for sure it’s a lie? This is the reason we must understand what makes truth, true. But how does a lie work?

From the time I was little I have loved to fish, but fishing isn’t catching; it’s fishing. The challenge isn’t in bringing the fish in, the challenge is to get the fish to bite in the first place.

Fishermen use lures or flies, which are designed to match the food of the fish as closely as possible. This way the fish cannot distinguish between the two, until too late. A lure is a lie, and a good lie looks and sounds a lot like the truth. Most of the time, the lie is completely covered in the truth, like a hook hidden in the worm.

There is a master fisherman, known as the, father of lies. We’ll meet him later in the book.

While Jim had a Lamborghini, and it was used, and it was new to me; it wasn’t the truth. It was the twisting of the truth that lured me in. I should have known better than to go looking for something, where it obviously shouldn’t be. This is the reason why we haven’t been able to explain the paranormal.

While in this chapter, we learned that our beliefs must be shaped by truths we accept through facts. The next chapter will hone our skills of discernment, as we take a close look at the evidence of the paranormal. At all times, we must remember what makes truth, true. The truth will agree with the evidence, the testimony, the circumstances, and the facts.

    The Big 5

Now that you are a juror, you get to be up close and personal to the photos and evidence. That’s what’s going to happen in this chapter. You will get a chance to discover some of the amazing things the paranormal does. Then we’ll evaluate the evidence, and see if we can determine if the paranormal is guilty of being natural, or if we must look elsewhere.

My wife and I enjoy watching cold case detective shows, but would I ever have my own cold case? The detectives rarely get to interview the witnesses, and often have to sort through a ton of evidence that has been sitting on the shelf, buried in a dusty box. The evidence may be plentiful, but unless it makes sense, it’s useless.

All the evidence I have gathered has been useless for years. It was plentiful, but it never made any sense. There were manifestations, EVP’s (Electronic Voice Phenomena, or audio voice recordings), and personal experiences, but where did it point? Did it point anywhere? That’s what we’re here to find out.

When I decided to start my filming career as a paranormal investigator, my first attempt came at the Hotel Alex Johnson, located in Rapid City, South Dakota.

My wife was my partner on that trip, and received the brunt of the activity that night.

She said that she woke up during the night, and felt herself drop back onto the bed. The next morning, as she looked in the bathroom mirror, the small cross she wore on a thin gold chain, was protruding from her throat horizontally. It looked as if someone held the top of the cross against her throat, while the chain hung limp.

She was also physically ill with nausea for about three days after leaving, and she also couldn’t stop crying. She felt completely overwhelmed by something, and was powerless to get rid of it.

During the night, I woke up to see her laying flat on her back with the covers off. Her hands were crossed on her chest, much like a person might be placed in a coffin.

We heard thumping and banging noises coming from the floor above us. These sounds were quite loud, and occurred sporadically throughout the night.

The next morning as we were sitting on the bed talking, the door on the armoire, which had remained open the entire stay, swung closed. We had been in and out of the room numerous times, and although we had to walk by that door each time, it had never moved.

We heard the sound of children laughing and running in the hall throughout the time we were there. We never saw any, however, even though we left the door open much of the time. These sounds were also captured on the main video camera, which stood near the door to the hall, but was facing into the room.
