    Dedication

I wrote this book not of my own abilities but of God’s, who gets the credit for the inspiration. Also, thanks go to my wife, Libby, who has always encouraged me. She is God’s gift to me. She walks with God as an ordained minister in her own right. To Pastor Timothy Cavanaugh, City Harvest Church, who saw the calling in my life and helped me attain a level I had not imagined. Also, I must mention Dr. Jack Kelly, Dean of Chaplaincy, Aidan University, who inspired me to write this book. And lastly, to my mentor, Dr. Kelley H. Varner, who taught me Biblical principles daily for thirty years. He is gone to the heavenly, but his books and words still reside.

    Foreword

"Chaplain James Rowe’s work in Suicide, Satan’s Killing Field is a needed word for this season. Personally, as someone who has almost fallen to suicide on four separate occasions, I recognize the power of the truths found in this book and how they can set the reader free. This book is practical and easy to understand. It is an applicable work of transparency on this often unaddressed subject. Knowing Chaplain James Rowe personally, I recognize the passion in him to see people set free behind every word typed here. I highly recommend this book for anyone secretly struggling with the value of their life or those needing a deeper understanding of the subject."

"In Chaplain James Rowe’s book Suicide, Satan’s Killing Field, he brings to light the pure essence of what Scripture talks about when a person commits suicide. James has had firsthand experiences with people who have committed suicide, and he describes the inner turmoil that Satan uses to play on their emotions when they are in their most depressed state. James uses scripture to emphasize the depths that people can go to but also the hope that can bring them out of their vortex of despair. James is a certified chaplain, and as such, he has seen many of these things he describes in his book. He has been called on and served those, anytime and anyplace, who face this lie from Satan that death is the best solution. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has battled depression or anyone who has a friend or loved one who either has or tried to commit suicide."

    Introduction

Many people today have slipped into depression and anxiety and delved into thoughts of suicide. Some have followed that path, but this book is written to all who are considering such an end or have traveled that road and found victory. Circumstances can be taken as challenges to be overcome, and my hope is you can see that. There is a better day tomorrow. Then, to the family and friends of those who lost the battle and are heartbroken, I found this thought came to mind when I was in class one evening when the question was asked about the eternal soul of their lost one, Does God not have compassion for those who have succumbed to their circumstances?

    Chapter 1

To preempt this book, I will say that I in no way have all the answers. However, at the heart of the matter, I simply have what God has shown me about the issue of suicide, and my desire is to turn someone away from such an end. Suicide contains a finality that creates death and questions from friends and family that are unfathomable and ongoing. Even perhaps leaving those left behind with lifelong questions that can cause emotional scars that never go away. It would seem, in some parts, I stray away from the main point of the book, but trust me enough to read this work, and you will see how it all ties together.

If you read this through, I hope you will find some consolation that will help you make peace with yourself and God in the end. I know some of you have experienced the issue personally with friends or family members. You have my sympathy. I had a brother and an aunt who committed suicide.

To start, I must relate a story of my Christian beginnings.
