Between Santo Domingo and Atlanta, I’ve been writing verses as a way to cope with change. It’s hard to encapsulate within a single or even multiple sentences the inevitable strikes of humaneness that fill us up or break us apart. Poetry is vulnerability—putting your bare face in the eyes of the public, an audience filled with people that know you, and also those who don’t. Sharing your creative, transparent, heavy emotional work is also hard, especially the first time.
